*** HP Reverb G2 Owners Thread ***

HP are selling them directly too, I imagine they will hit more retail stores when they are actually available.

Was browsing the Reddit thread the other day and seems there are still some UK customers waiting on November pre-orders from SA. Lots internationally still waiting on pre-orders, but seems HP is still screwing over RMA and pre-order customers and supplying to retail anyway with those still outstanding.

Any of you guys know if someone will develop a HDMI 2.1 to DP adapter? I'm one of those crazy people who has a 144htz triple monitor set up for sim racing and a CV1 for flight sims. Of course it seems all graphics cars seem to only come with only three display ports and the rest HDMI 2.1 which is a bit of problem because Nvidia surround only accepts 60 htz when I try to use the HDMI port.

Hopefully some solution will come about this year because I really want to upgrade to the reverb 2

It`s a pain. I just use two screens for everyday use now and the third display port for a headset. But when i want to play a game on monitors it is a kerfuffle setting up triple surround every time. What were Nvidia thinking?

yeah I know right? I'm hoping with the higher bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 there might be an adaptor in the works for VR headsets or a GFX card with 4 DP's

Hey All,
I have been running my G2 with no problems on my B350 3700x 3080 setup, however I'm just about to press the button on a 5800x. From what I am seeing the latest motherboards are having a nightmare with the G2. Is there a best option motherboard that doesn't have any issues with the G2 out there? I'm happy for either a B550 or X570 but preferably one with lots of USB as I fly DCS and have shed loads of peripherals.

Majority of people including me are just using a plain old USB hub and it works flawlessly.

According to the HP guy in Reddit AMD has already sorted a fix for their x570 reference boards anyway so should just be a case of waiting for whatever agesa the fixes are in to be rolled out through vendor bioses.

That said, mine is already working ok on the X570 Aorus Master through the rear USB-C connector as long as pcie 4.0 is turned off.

I went with a USB hub also and thought it was working "flawlessly" as well, but when I disconnect the G2 from the hub and connect my G1 directly to one of the USB 3.1 headers on the back of my PC, I get much better frame time consistency...to the point where it feels like a decent GPU upgrade. (but nothing in the system has changed other than the headset)

Steam VR recommends 68% SS on G2 and 150% on G1. The clarity looks the same between the headsets with these numbers.

Considering they are both running the same resolution, I think the USB hub is a "workable" band-aid for the G2. I expect a proper fix to yield almost identical performance between the two headsets.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. They are running the same resolution, so why in the world is Steam recommending such different SS settings?

No Idea. FWIW 150% on the G1 is 2700 X 2640. I don't remember what the numbers were for 68% on the G2.

(The G2 was for a rig I built for someone else, so I don't have it any more.)

because the G1 setting is wrong... whether that’s a bug or because hardware simply wasn’t able to run it how it needed back then so a conscious choice they made.

I've never laid hands on a G1, but @Twinz says the clarity of the G1 at 68% matches that of the G2 at 150%. This again makes very little sense, and can't be explained by Steam VR mistakes/choices.

I've been wrestling with part of me who wants to return the G2. At double the price (RRP), I just don't think it's anywhere near double the headset of the Quest 2. However having two HMDs is now required in my house, as both myself and my son are really starting to enjoy Pavlov. We take turns on HMDs though, and whoever gets the G2 is always the one who draws the short straw. No matter what, and I've tried everything from multiple LED lamps to red bulbs, the tracking of the G2 will always give a problem at some point in Pavolv. Conversely, the Quest2 has literally never given either of us any issues for any reason at all. Hardware wise, the G2 is clearly better, but the Oculus software platform is just a much better environment which just seems to work whatever is thrown at it.

All things considered, though, I bought the G2 for sim racing and in this arena it's clearly better than the Quest 2. At 50% SS it looks comfortably better than the Q2 with default settings on all of my sims, so I can't really complain. Also I only paid a net £475, factoring in the £50 cashback so the price discrepancy is much less than it initially seems on paper.

You read that wrong, he said the G1 at 150% is much the same as the G2 at 67%, which makes sense given both will be approximately the same target resolution.

Ah, Saturday night beer goggles, that makes way more sense :)

I've just been doing some more testing with Pavlov this morning, having installed the new Nvidia hotfix driver. Pavlov is the game of choice as it's the only game I play that really relies on the controller tracking. I've been working under the assumption that the problems I've had (one 'hand' randomly disappearing, screen spins, then goes blue for a bit, then returns with hands not present, have to restart controllers) have been due to lighting, but now I'm not so sure.

I should state that, whilst I do see the odd problem similar to the below in seated, cockpit-based games, it's much less frequent.

Light in this room is natural daylight, it's bright and sunny but the sun is hitting the other side of the house, so no problems with direct sunlight, it's bright and consistent. Just playing around in the firing range. SS in Steam set to 65%. All was fine for around 15minutes, then all of a sudden my world spins, I get a blue screen for around 5 seconds, then I return with no hands.

I repeat the process, this time having upped the steam SS to 100% (shouldn't really be an issue in this game on my system, and the frame rate, frame times etc are all fine, getting a solid 90fps still). A minute in later the same again, but this time it errors (this time it's a 7-7, but I get all sorts of different errors, no consistency). Have to power-cycle the headset to bring it back.

I've been putting this down to less than optimal lighting, but I've tried to repeat as scientifically as I can, and it's clear as day that the problems I see are linked to the SS level I'm asking it to run at. I put it right down to 40%, and managed half an hour no problems at all.

I'm guessing this is the sort of weird s*** you were seeing prior to going to PCI-E v3.0 @Zeeflyboy ? I did give that a go but had to revert as my NVME boot drive refused to work in 4.0 mode, I fear I'd have to reformat & reinstall windows. Still might do that if nothing improves, but
I'm hoping that the new BIOS which is designed to fix the USB detection issues on x570 does more than just that, or something is done in Steam VR to improve things

Well I'm not sure if this is the AGESA that's mooted to help with USB issues, but I just installed the recently released AGESA 1.2.0.0 on my Aorus Elite x570. I've just turned the G2 on and off several times, and each time it's picked up perfectly, no 'USB Headphones', it's been right each time. So that's promising.

that’s promising, I didn’t get an answer when I asked if the fixes were rolled into the 1.2.0.0 agesa. They did say that AMD had a bios level fix for the x570 USB issues though.

I didn’t want to jump on the 1.2.0.0 yet as it’s still an early beta bios for my board but now I’m tempted.

as for the pcie4.0 weirdness I was seeing random disconnecting and reconnecting, error codes, world spinning out of control etc.
