this morning. Fov obviously improved. My long eyelashes touch the screens now but its not a deal breaker. I can see the screen edge. The view is now rectangular rather than binocular. Will I use it instead of the standard gasket? Yes I think I will. The increased fov is nice.

I actually prefer the G1 over the G2 for sim racing because the top-to-bottom FOV is better on the G1 than the G2.

I can just glance at my dash in the G1, but the G2 requires me to tilt my head down.

Does this interface improve that on the G2? (Not just the standard horizontal FOV)

A lower profile interface improves FoV and sweet spot in all directions assuming your problems are caused by the standard interface being too deep/narrow for your face shape.

If you still have the G2 it’s easy to test, just take the stock interface off and hold the headset close to your eyes by hand. If you see an improved FoV and sweet spot then you will benefit from a lower profile interface.

I actually find that’s a problem - your eyelashes have oils on them and they blur up the lens in no time at all.

If you are seeing all the edges of the screen to the extent it’s a rectangular view it sounds like you have some room to move your eyes back a little by using thicker padding, then you’ll avoid smudgy lenses.

Ah ok so I could be slowly smudging up the screen. Yeah the padding is thin, I could buy vive or O+ padding which is thicker. I do have a load of microfiber cloths and a lense cleaning pen to keep on top of smudges however.

Only had the G2 for a week or so to work out compatibility issues for a rig I built for someone else. (Which is another reason I like the G1 right now...G2 bugs will eventually get worked out though, I expect)

Yeah I do think the vertical fov is improved a bit, most noticeable is horizontal though. Playing msfs 2020 it becomes obvious there's just more to see side to side.

Has anyone here had problems with their G2 speakers? After a while at 100% volume, my left speaker will start to produce distorted sound with crackling. I have to keep volume down to below 50% in Windows to stop this.

Can’t say I’ve had that problem but I don’t run at 100%, I find 70% more than loud enough once I’ve properly positioned the speakers! There is some audio fix coming in firmware soon apparently you may find it sorts that issue though.

I had a similar problem before but not quiet... I had some cracling coming from both my speakers so I unplugged the power cable from the link box then reconnected it and the problem never happenned after that. Try it before sending it back to HP!

(I do disconnect my USB-C cable after every use - using a switchable usb hub - but never the power cable...)

Just be aware, people have had their headset give error messages doing it this way - the usb-c connector pins get basically bent out of shape and won't connect... People have also had the supply block fail by disconnecting the little connector from the 3in1 block. I'm now disconnecting the plug from the socket as that seems the safest option.

Just to be clear im using a USB switch to turn the headset on/off and NOT physically moving any of the cables...

(Not every USB socket works with this! but with some trial and error i managed to make it work)

Apparently you get the same effect by using a smart power plug (again no cables involved) for example:

As a result my headset HP logo is not lit and the headset is not warm to the touch (which some argues is there so you wont get fogging but i never had fogging issues even with this method)

When i turn the USB swtich on the WMR home pops up and im ready to go... It is really is this simple!

I was really tempted a few weeks ago with the G2 just for iRacing and MSFS but after hearing about the problems people are getting ill be keeping Quest 2, Ill wait it out for a G3 version i think

The Quest 2 is still a fantastic HMD, you're not missing out on a great deal. Apart from the X570 USB issue mine has been rock solid though.

Well I'm not sure if this is the AGESA that's mooted to help with USB issues, but I just installed the recently released AGESA 1.2.0.0 on my Aorus Elite x570. I've just turned the G2 on and off several times, and each time it's picked up perfectly, no 'USB Headphones', it's been right each time. So that's promising.

I just updated to the beta F33a with 1.2.0.0 and it seems from my limited testing so far that I can leave everything on PCIE4.0 now, but I still get the daft USB headphones vs Speakers issue.

So out of interest did you previously have any issues with using PCIE4.0 and if so did 1.2.0.0 fix it for you?

In other news I came across a VRBrother elite strap for the G2 which replaces the rear portion and gives you index style knob adjustment... I saw some pretty positive impressions of the thing so have ordered one to try out.

I've skimmed through the thread hopefully not repeating,

If anyone's having issues on X570 boards this is really helpful https://www.vrone.co.uk/articles/hp-reverb-troubleshooting

I have Gigabyte Aorus X570 pro (CPU 5600x not that I think it matters) none of the USB ports working using the latest drivers supplied by Gigabyte (BIOS is now F33a btw) etc etc, I did try a StarTech 2 PORT PCIe USB 3.0 Controller Card from a website that shall not be named! :p;) but it also did not fix the errors. Annoyingly in the bios q-flash USB port I can hear the speakers working in the mixed reality menu so close... but then it errors... sigh!

My last ditch effort is now https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Y25XFGK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1if it doesn't work well be useful for work but I'm sick of troubleshooting this now :confused:

Soon to have an expensive door stop.

EDIT: 3rd Feb - The anker hub works, bizarre situation but happy to finally get a work around. updating in case anyone else comes across this post looking for a fix/work around.

I never changed from PCIE4.0 as when I tried I ran into boot issues with my NVME drive. I believe the issues I had, and still do have, are related, but not been bothered to reinstall windows to find out (yet). I still get weird spinning screens and suchlike, and it does seem to be very much linked to SS levels - when I push it, it starts acting up. I wonder if this is due to increased data throughput...

The strap is the least of my issues - what's the benefit of the different design? Is it to make it a bit tighter, bearing in mind your new face interface thingy?
