*** HP Reverb G2 Owners Thread ***

In other news I came across a VRBrother elite strap for the G2 which replaces the rear portion and gives you index style knob adjustment... I saw some pretty positive impressions of the thing so have ordered one to try out.

I'd be interested to know more on this strap please? Like where did you buy it from? I can only find it on the seller named after a rainforest usa site (and it was not in stock/unavailable). Also how much? And when you get it, whats it like? I may order 1 before you receive yours as the reviews seemed good. Is it easy to replace like the Quest 2 strap (just pulls out)?

I ordered from there, was $15ish shipping to UK and they add VAT when you purchase so should be no import fees. Exchange rate pretty good at the moment so ended up a little over £50 (paying by Revolut).

From a YouTube video I saw it looks very easy to fit, what certainly doesn’t look easy is getting the original strap back on as you’d have to feed the Velcro back through the strap arms.

Scheduled to arrive between feb 4th-8th so will post impressions when it comes.

I never changed from PCIE4.0 as when I tried I ran into boot issues with my NVME drive. I believe the issues I had, and still do have, are related, but not been bothered to reinstall windows to find out (yet). I still get weird spinning screens and suchlike, and it does seem to be very much linked to SS levels - when I push it, it starts acting up. I wonder if this is due to increased data throughput...

interesting, I had immediate issues on the 3070 with pcie4.0 making it completely unusable... never tried the 3090 on pcie4.0 until after the update to 1.2.0.0 but I played the halo recruit demo quickly last night with pcie4.0 enabled and all seemed to work ok.

The strap is the least of my issues - what's the benefit of the different design? Is it to make it a bit tighter, bearing in mind your new face interface thingy?

I don’t think there is any inherent problem with the stock strap, I just prefer the idea of being able to tighten it evenly on both sides with the knob a la index. From what I’ve seen people claim it makes it fit better and increases comfort so thought I’d give it a shot. Will let you guys know what I think when it arrives.

The usb connection issue is not related to AMD or Intel, I have exact same sound/connection issues with a i7 7700k on asus board & second system with ryzen 5600x on an MSI B550.... Very similar to when the rift-s launched... Only got fixed with firmware for headset.... Eventually. Considering how many people have more or less exact same issues I can't believe it's not a huge topic on HP forum site. Also I tried the usb pci card, didn't make any difference to me on either system

So this arrived yesterday.

Fitting it literally takes a minute, reverting to the stock strap will probably be infuriating and require some thought as you need to not only feed the Velcro straps through the tight pathway but also make a 90 degree turn at the end.

The good - feels decent quality, the ratchet mechanism works well and the rear padding is removable for cleaning.

The bad - the design, at least for my shape head, puts all the pressure on the middle section of the strap. That has the effect of making you feel like the strap is too high up if you are used to properly wearing a VR headset where it cups the back of your head lower down. That in turn can lead to you having the strap too low and then it can interfere with your ears which is uncomfortable.

It does work well, so I’m going to give it a week and see how I get used to the feel of a higher up strap.

I think another option may be to add some thicker padding to the bottom section as that would then feel more traditional with spreading the pressure out lower down.

Think I will get 1 when they're back in stock. Tbh I wear the g2 where the back of the original strap does not cup the very back of my head, it rests 2 or 3 inches higher. I find if it goes lower, it puts pressure on my nose. Thinks that's why I like volume at 100% as the headphones aren't flush with my ears the way I wear the strap.

Putting on the original strap sounds almost impossible, I hope you gel with the aftermarket one!

I would like to buy a G2 :)
So would many others. Ebay at inflated prices is about the only way right now of getting one within a few days, its what I did at Xmas. The chap who I bought it from said he was selling as in the long wait for delivery he'd bought a quest 2 instead. Tbh I don't really care he made a few quid. I bought a quest 2 elite battery strap which i decided i didn't want while waiting for delivery, i sold it brand new unopened on ebay for nearly double what i paid for it. Works both ways.

Finally bit the bullet and changed to PCIE 3.0. Not sure what happened when I tried before (I had NVME boot issues, but can't remember exactly what, I just changed it back to 4.0 and was fine again), but no problems now at all on that front. It's definitely sorted the blue screens, spinning around and randomly losing my hands, so that's good.

Yeah there’s still some funky stuff going on with pcie4.0 - if I enable it with the 3090 and use my Bluetooth headphones they don’t work properly and I just get choppy garbled audio... put it to 3.0 and it works fine.

Kind of reinforces the fact that there are some significant X570 chipset issues and not everything about the G2 problems are necessarily directly its fault.

I also made a fun little discovery while upgrading my sim rig with another amplifier. When hooking up the second line to the mobo audio panel I noticed during gameplay I had a constant hum on the shaker from that amp.

I then narrowed it down to WMR being open, and further down to specifically the headset being awake. Headset asleep or disconnected, no hum, headset awake it will permanently hum despite audio outputs being unrelated and no audio output being played.

It sounded suspiciously like ground loop hum to me so I installed a ground loop isolator on the audio line out and sure enough problem was fixed.

I find this incredibly curious, because while I obviously have a very specific setup to expose this in this exact way it means that something is seemingly happening that is creating a ground loop when the headset is awake and in my particular setup it manifests as a hum on the onboard audio. It suggests to me that even when it doesn’t manifest obviously, it could be contributing to USB signal integrity issues which as the basis of a lot of those error codes people are seeing.

Basically, I need to do more investigating but it seems that when the headset is awake one possibility is that perhaps an alternate path to ground is being given (for example perhaps the USB is not isolated and can ground though the power brick as well as the PSU) and there is the potential for a ground loop to be set up. My setup just happened to give a tangible sign of it, but that doesn’t preclude it from occurring unnoticed on a wider scale.

I have two G1 headsets that work well on two different X570 systems.

The G1 has the same resolution and refresh rate as the G2, so the G2 has some sort of "special needs".

After seeing how buggy the G2 is, I bought a refurbished G1 as a back up to the G1 I bought early last May.

Phoned them up and pre ordered a headset only. Due in a "couple of weeks" and I am still waiting for the 3090 so thats alright

Nice..I ordered with the controllers..I have a expected delivery date on my email of the 15th of this month but they did say 10 days tho..Iv had the 3080 from OcUK since mid December and love it...

I only want this headset for MSFS and Iracing....Everything else ill be using Quest 2 via Link

Thanks for the heads-up on them coming back in to stock. I just phoned the HP store direct to enquire and the girl told me that they are due in tomorrow and if I place an order today it will be with me by Monday (this is with the controllers for £658).

Happy days and bye bye Rift S and all your blurry text. Now I will be able to read the dials on my F18 in DCS!

I phoned this morning at 9am, placed a pre-order for the G2 with controllers. I was told they are expecting them next week. My previous conversation with them 2 weeks ago I was told they were due in yesterday. Think they are due at anytime, over the next day /week by the sound of it.
