HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

I’m interested in this for sim racing (ACC and Automobilista 2) but is my 2070 Super going to have enough grunt to run it at the full 90hz?

ACC is going to be a challenge but with sufficiently low settings yes... it's just horrendously optimised. I have however played it at 72hz on my 2070S with some up sampling on the Quest with the appropriate tweaking of settings. With a full grid you will actually find the CPU is preventing you from hitting 90hz though as again it's just really poorly optimised.

Many run ACC at 45fps (tweak the settings so you maintain minimum 45fps at all times) and turn on smoothing/reprojection. Hitting 90hz is just so hard that it's generally better to admit defeat, turn up some settings for a better picture and accept a few little reprojection artefacts as the trade-off.

AMS2 will be much easier and you should be able to run that on the 2070S no problem, but you may have to make a few sacrifices on the settings again to make sure you are maintaining that 90hz.

Am I dreaming in thinking I can pre order one now and get it before Christmas?

Was going to upgrade my dads oculus for Christmas..

Unfortunately no one can answer that for you, HP really aren't being overly forthcoming with dates. I would say there is a chance, but certainly no guarantee... I think if you want it any time soon though you'll be waiting probably at least into january/february (total guess, but seems realistic enough) for it to reach general retail availability so pre-ordering is going to be the only way to get it any time soon.

Which are they more likely to dip their toe in with?
It's Q2, but it does not make it the best for beginners in my eyes.
PCVR is now very expensive. It's an improvement because it used to be prohibitively expensive. 600 pounds is just a GPU to drive a G2, plus another 600 pounds for the rest of the system. That's the non-virtual reality of the situation (pun intended). PCVR is hardly for financially constrained people.
Wireless VR does come with compression artefacts and extra latency on top of the latency of your rig. It will be that way for the forceable future, as these are the physical limitation of wi-fi and encoding/decoding. One therefore cannot sell wireless VR as a true advantage of Q2 vs G2, because it comes with significant drawbacks. Then it's up to the user what is more important. Wireless PCVR will not kill wired PCVR, same as Stadia/Geforce now are not going to kill consoles/PCs.
G2 appears to be a bit more plug and play than Q2 for PCVR.
Both Q2 and G2 will sell well, but for beginners in PCVR, i'd give an edge to G2. We can agree to disagree.

Surprisingly VR Flight Sim Guy , who by his SIM nature is supposed to be G2 biased, has raised an important criticism, that other "hands-oners" seem to have missed. G2 appears to have insufficient room to adjust the head straps such that the device fits securely onto a small head. That's a big bummer right there. Indeed, you can't really try before you by at the moment, so if you are a tiny lady, it may or may not fit well. And children will have troubles too. It's a bit surprising for HP to have invested so much attention to other details, but dropped the ball on this one.

So whoever has a rather small head - tough luck for you.

Sounds like exactly the problem my friend`s wife had when I tried the Rift S on her. Probably down to the very limited manual PD as well. Not such a problem for kids since they`re not really supposed to use it, but most women probably won`t be able to use it as well.

p.s. That said, I very much believe it`s males that are far more into gaming and thereby VR than women (despite all the ads featuring women wearing them), and HP likely knows this, so they`ve made a calculated decision.

It would be extremely simple to add some extra padding inside the head strap at the rear which would sort that easily if you happen to have a tiny head and yet a large enough IPD to actually use it... I would guess that people with sufficiently small heads to cause a problem will have too narrow an IPD anyway, but we'll have to wait and see on that front.

There has been allegations (Freality and MRTV) the mic of reverb G2 had an issue. I think it's sounds fine. Link.

Agree, sounds fine to me.

That`s my point. The ipds are too small. So even adding a fitting wouldn`t help.

I suppose they`ll eventually figure a way to have VR have a way to have manual pds to fit all eyes, but it would have to be some kind of super thin/flexible lenses that could either be warped about to the specific pd or be in multiples to swap seamlessly in the headset itself. And I don`t believe we have such advanced tech yet to make it feasible or cost effective.

A quote on VRONE dated November 3rd:
Tuesday 3rd November 2020: Latest update
People who live in the UK, who pre-ordered the headset from 'SystemActive' before the end of July 2020, should receive the HP Reverb G2 between the 13th - 15th of November, 2020.

Can't remember the name of the channel but they were recording a vr interview/chat thing. One of them had got their g2. Said the display was a noticeable step up on the q2 but tracking wasn't as good ( more dead space from what i understood). Said if you're a pcvr enthusiast though, it's the best headset out there.

Do you have a link to this? Even System Active`s own site doesn`t say this, although they seem somewhat paralysed right now.

Sure do.

Thankyou. I had this message on the 3rd November in my email.

“Hello! We have received our final units and are so excited about the HP Reverb G2 product. We are officially in production and started shipping the first units to our channel partners.”

Unfortunately, as far as we are aware units have not yet been sent to Europe. Our latest official communication from HP is that they will start shipping to us from factory Week Commencing 2nd November 2020. Shipping from Factory to us normally takes 10 days. We are fully prepared to get them out the following day. We will email again as soon as we have confirmation they have left the factory.

System Active wrote that it takes 10 days from shipping from the factory to them. And I was told vis email that they`ll contact us the moment they`re shipped out. I`ve had no such message which means we`re still 10 days from anything happening... Unless System Active never bothered to let us know that they`ve been shipped out.

I suspect Vrone is making assumptions here.

I suspect you are correct

It doesn`t get better. just had this from System Active in my email:

HP REVERB G2 SHIPPING UPDATE
  • Pre-order now for expected delivery end of December

That means next year.
In a previous post I said we won`t be getting this till January, if we`re lucky. Now I know I`m right. What a load of...

I don’t follow your logic. They say in that quote if you pre-order now you can get it end of December... if you already preordered why does that mean you’ll be getting it in January? If anything that is confirmation that you’ll get it at the very least before late December if people that only pre-order now will be expected to get it by then.

That quote literally only tells us that System Active expect to be able to fulfill all pre-orders they already have before “late December”, as that is when they expect to be able to start fulfilling new pre-orders.
