HP Reverb G2 uk release date?

Indeed, but iirc one of the HP guys on that subreddit post of the early shipment boxes said all the boxed up units had US plugs... would explain why European/UK reviewers got US plugs with their units. No idea why but perhaps the way the factory does it is a big run of units for a given localisation, then next batch for the next localisation and so on.
I thought the boxes pictured had the CE mark on them...? Which is a European standard, no?

Boxes will quite often have every mark on them to save on packaging costs, then an extra stick on label that has the serial number and a product code that differentiates the market it's intended for. The boxes probably also have the FCC marking on it too, and that is solely a US thing.

After the people in Australia, now customers in Canada and the US are getting their headsets as well.
Looks like we will get it last here in the UK, and Europe.
I see there are some binding problems and tracking is not the best, but still the best headset atm in terms of clarity.

Those can be improved with software updates. There doesn't seem to be any major issues so far, which is good.

As I said previously, definitely the best sim headset, but not really the best all-rounder.

I would imagine tracking will improve as they get data back from the headsets they sell.

Depends on how much effort Microsoft is going to put into updating the WMR platform, which hasn't seen much in the way of improvement recently. Though Microsoft did announce the other day that they're uprading the chromatic abberation correction, so it looks like they haven't totally abandoned it.

On the Freality podcast they said the main issue with the controller tracking is that it's not as quick to re-aquire as Oculus's Insight tracking. With the Oculus system you may lose tracking but it recovers very quickly - in fact you may not even notice you've lost tracking. When WMR loses controller tracking it's very obvious, and doesn't instantly recover.

It is frustrating though that there's no definitive headset yet. The Index is close, but is expensive, has lens glare and the resolution is now lacking compared to Quest 2 and G2. The Quest 2 is close, but has forced facebook, compressed PC graphics and not very good IPD adjust. The G2 is close, but has comparatively worse controllers, etc.

Well, the 4 camera setup is new to the WMR line up, so I think tracking will improve over time.

Personally for me, the Quest 2 is closest to the perfect headset. The only the way the other headsets can compete for my money is if they come with a wireless option. And that's probably the reason why there is no definitive headset yet, because everyone has different priorities and the cost of making a headset that satisfies all of your list above would be extremely expensive!!

I think:

Quest 2 - Perfect for mass market
Valve Index - perfect for enthusiasts
Reverb G2 - perfect inbetweener

Of course - won't know for sure until I get the darn unit in my hands.

I found his review to be very half assed - he started off saying that you can get power from USB-C - which is wrong. He also complained about the mic, but he had the wrong settings, and then compared the FOV with a modified Quest 2 (VR Cover installed) which brings your eye in closer.
I love VR Oasis, but don't think he made much effort - and overplayed some of the obvious points.

Well it will be my first headset and I'm not playing competitive games.
As long as it's usable for Skyrim and sim games I'm fine.

Oculus is not good because the IPD, Indexes are still not shipping fast either and are basically double price, so personally I'm fine with SOME tracking issues.

But let's hope for software updates.
The new unexpected update for chromatic aberration is a welcome surprise.

You can set inbetween the official IPD settings for quest, the software recognises it also and correctly adjusts. What is your IPD?

You said your IPD is 58 right? That means the Oculus Quest 2 is perfect for you, and you are out of range for Reverb G2. I still think you have some confusion about IPD.

If you order the Index now, you will get it in two weeks. Just checked today for a friend who is considering all his options.

As for the Reverb G2, I don't think the tracking issues will be a problem for long, even if they are a little off at launch. It will be a great headset for Sims.

When I was considering the Index in August it was still very backlogged. Good to hear it's not anymore.
And I gave up on Oculus, so I didn't even know quest 2 had better IDP range.
But the quality is just not as good.
People said on reddit that 70mm IPD still works for them, so my 58 IPD with the big sweetspot should work for me.

I really don't want to cancel at this point.

Is that it though? The Index is all round a better headset, for sure. But with it falling SO FAR behind the G2 for pixel count, and the G2 nicking half the tech from valve, I wouldn't say it's just an "inbetweener". For some, it's the enthusiast choice, and the index is a relic...Just a thought.
