**HTC HD2 Thread**

Thanks for your recent order of the HTC HD2 on Vodafone

We have received unprecedented demand for the HTC HD2, and due to shortages from the manufacturer – we are experiencing slight delays in receiving your handset. We are doing everything we can to obtain further stock and will be the first to receive the next deliveries. Currently we expect these to arrive early in December.

Rest assured we will contact you as soon as we confirm this delivery and can then dispatch your order as soon as possible.

:(

As long as it arrives before Christmas!

I had a go on the HD2 today and I have to say I was slightly unimpressed. I have an Iphone 3G at the moment so thats what I'm basing my comparison on. The UI really wasn't very intuitive and whilst better then Winmo standard still wasn't as easy to use as the Iphone. The screen was nice and big but really didn't seem very bright, and not quite as responsive as the Iphone. The big thing that seemed very poor was the virtual keyboard, I found it extremely hard to type on and the text prediction was awful, it never guessed the right words when I was typing. Now ok I know I only had a 10min go on it but after having read the reviews I was surprised it wasn't better.

I'm also considering the N900 as well but no where in town had any instock so I guess I'm going to have to wait to see what that is like. At the moment though I think its looking like I'm going to get a 3GS....

Are the models from vodafone direct branded in any way?

Also I've just called t-mobile for a PAC code so I can order from Vodafone and they say they'll apply an immediate charge to my account as I've 3 months left on my contract. I'm a bit concerned as to what will happen if Vodafone don't get any stock for a while - any ideas? Didn't get any sense out of the woman on the phone as she was just trying to get me to return my handset to a branch to have it looked at - speaker is faulty, hence my need for a new phone.

I asked someone at Vodafone and they said it has their logo on the back. Does anyone have any pics?

I'm tempted to switch to Voda - if they can chuck in the £2 for 50 MMS' for free - then i'm sold :D

I had a play with one today and I hate to say it really wasn't for me. The screen was washed out easily and Windows mobile it STILL not 100% touch compatible.

It was a lovely device to hold but it needs Android and a better screen.

If that's all it is then I've no problem with that. I've placed an order with Vodafone now, so hoping they get stock soon.

Too many nice phones out at the minute. :( Trying to decide between the HD2, the 3GS, the N900 and the Moto Droid/Milestone.

Is there a turn by turn navigation software available for this phone? Can someone link me to a few WinMo app repositories, so I can see if it has the apps I want?

Also, is WinMo the dog turd that everyone makes it out to be?

Have a look at some YouTube reviews/walkthroughs of the phone, it's the best way to see what it's like without actually using it yourself.

It does seem like HTC have done a very good job at 'hiding' Windows on it, from what I've seen you rarely come into contact with the actual raw Windows interface, it's all done via their Sense UI overlay which improves things immensely. It is still possible/required to use the normal Windows style interface at times, but for general use that doesn't seem an issue.

Of course, it does make you wonder why they bothered with Windows Mobile at all if all they were going to do is completely cover it up and make it as un-Windows-like as possible.

Because being Windows, it runs the full catalogue Windows apps, and has flawless activesynch/exchange etc support.

And it's the whole point of windows mobile. It's the operating system, the companies then overlay whatever they want to it, from phone software, GPS programs, barcode and stock etc, etc. That's why WM is the most versitile mobile OS out there, because it's designed to be.

On the other hand it means it's not necessarily a master of one (UI) because it is designed to go onto anything.

I saw one of these in an O2 shop yesterday. A lad came in and asked if they had one in, they only had one (could have been a marketing ploy by the sales reps?) and they got it out for him. He was totally blown away with it but the deal he got.....£100 for the phone and something crazy like £40/month for 24months...eek!

This is the main thing about WM, it's an OS that happens to have a naff UI, but being the kind of OS it is, it allows for other UIs to be used (PointUI Home2, Sense, TouchWiz) thus allowing for greater customisability than most other phone OS.

Ahh I see, fair enough then! The HD2 is currently my number one handset when I upgrade in a month's time, it would be the Hero if Vodafone did it but I'll happily settle for the HD2. From what I've seen of various videos, the interface is still rather nice and it has a lot going for it, so it suit my wants/needs well.

I just got off the phone to the T-Mob upgrade team - apparently the HD2 literally came in this morning and it's currently going through "security checks" (?) - so they're calling me back this afternoon to give me a quote.

How the hell have other people got theirs through T-Mobile earlier?! (unless they're talking about separate batches?)

Resellers selling unbranded handsets with sim-only T-mob contracts.

Not T-mob selling the phones themselves.

Phoned voda about upgrade. They offered £34pm on 2yr contract with all the minutes and web. I asked for PAC code then was immediately offered same deal for £30pm but wouldn't budge on 24months. Still asked for code so hope they'll call back with something better.
I only want this phone to sell though!
