**HTC HD2 Thread**

I'm also having some troubles with the "SMS bug". Seems to be working now but none of my texts last night were sent at the time. Also, where the hell is the text message outbox? I can't find it anywhere!

Edit: Found it. For anyone else, go to Messages -> All Messages -> Menu -> Settings -> Traditional Mode. You'll then have a dropdown menu at the top with outbox listed.

Argh! Can't decide between the HD2, the Hero or wait a little longer.....

Coming from a W910i anything will seem impressive! :)
I'm in the same boat, i'm coming from a N95 8gb. Think only thing thats stopping me getting the HD2 is the problems people have with WinMo and there's not as many apps etc as on android.

Ok mate I listed a wee fix earlier, make sure you go into the menu > settings > then change the priority to High and also the retries to a max of 5. I have not had any texting problems since then :)

I dont know about games however as I havent downloaded any as of yet.

I just got my insurance sorted from a 3rd party, comprehensive premium insurance for £5.99 p/m but Vodafone would offer me their non premium for £5.98 p/m, wouldnt have covered the handset however...so thats sorted now, Talk Cover is who I'm with and this was recommended by Money Supermarket ;)

Also my credit has definitely been more than expected :P I'm putting it down to human error but I got £129.97 in total towards my bills from Vodafone....glad I quoted that Quidco cashback now :D :D

Very nice :). I settled with the £90 cashback myself.

I added you to MSN by the way, hope you don't mind :).

Right, well I upgraded to the HD2 today - moved up from Flext 35 to Flext 40 as well....... and I just realised..... i've effectively not got any kinda "deal" - despite not having upgraded in over 3 years...... i've just got a bog-standard "new customer" price.......

Bit annoyed now lol :(

There are thousands of apps for WM, don't worry about that. :)

As for problems with WM, it can occasionally hickup, but no worse than other systems, try it and see. Worse comes to the worst you can sell it and buy a Hero (for probably what you sold the HD2 for).:)

Does anyone know of any games that show off the phone, ie Teeter but more to show off the touch screen?

Have a look at either Xtrakt, a futuristic racer/shooter or Spb Airislands which is pretty cool as well (both as a show off of the resoution and for touch screen (sort of like the sims/sim city but with other games mixed in).

Vodafone shop said that the HD2s have been withdrawn from sale for now. He couldn't tell me why though?
I might just go for a refurbished Hero for £18 a month.

Think someone else had the same told to them earlier in the thread, and they are saying it because of stock shortages.

Cool, think i may just do that. :)

Has anyone managed to get any decent snaps from the camera, all the samples I've seen so far on reviews are pretty poor imo?

I've had plenty of good snaps. The auto settings aren't great, so it's best to set things yourself. Occasionally you get the pink/purple problem but that's to do with auto white balance and it eventually corrects itself or you can resolve it by manually settings it.

Apparently the problem with the camera is a software issue (pretty obviously, and as you found out using it "manually" gets you good photos) so a small update should sort the issue out, just depends on whether HTC actually decide to do it, they are notoriously bad at supporting WM devices (maybe because they think that XDA will do it for them?)

Anyone having issues with texts ? Had mine on Vodafone for a couple of weeks now and every few days any texts I send just sit in the outbox and never get sent. Reset the phone and everything is ok but I cant work out for the life of me what it causing it to do it. Other than that the phone is a class product but the whole texting issue is starting to wind me up.

Hi Ian,
welcome to the forums and nice to see a presense in this thread.

I had been posting what I thought was a temporary fix but I have now encountered a massive backlog from 8am this morning, I was only able to clear it.
after a restart and a text to get the process working again.

What I will ask however is, are vodafone communicating this problem directly to Htc as it seems to be a clear software issue?

Cheers

I read somewhere that someone else who was having this problem, changed the SMS settings from sending via GPRS, to errrr whatever the other option is!

Might not do anything - but worth a try!

Hello there, must say that this post was a bit of a suprise :D

So far so good for me. Some chap far brighter than me came up with a registery tweak on the XDA forums so prevent the HD2 using "HTC Messaging" and reverting the phone back to using WM to handle all texts. I have been using it a couple of days now and I've not had a single issue with texts, all have been sent and recieved promptly.
So it rather looks like its something to do with how the phone handles the HTC messaging service I guess. I'm sure that HTC will sort it out sooner or later as its a bit of a bummer to step away from their interface to sort out what is at the end of the day and important, basic function of a modern day phone, let alone a "smartphone". :D

I haven't had any problems with txt, i'm on O2. Here is another question has any one had any luck getting mobile data working on a tomtom?

I've had my HD2 a week now so here are my thoughts...

Pros
  • Amazingly customisable - there's already a number of decent apps/themes/tweaks/mods coming out of XDA and a load of help for any issues. A lot of them really are 'must haves' as well.
  • Interface is generally amazing, from the main home screen to text message conversations and everything else.
  • Opera is blazingly fast when combined with some XDA tweaks and mods. It absolutely blew my friends iPhone out the water (connected to the same WiFi) - his took a good 3 seconds longer to load Amazon.com than me, and his loaded the mobile version, while mine had fully loaded the desktop version.
  • Using it as a modem couldn't be simpler. I literally plugged it into my laptop this weekend while at my parents, selected Internet Sharing on the phone (as opposed to Sync and File Transfer) and I'd already connected to MSN and the like by the time I looked back at my laptop.
  • It's very fast, and I haven't had any loading delays or anything of the like other than when it's still booting.
  • The keyboard is very accurate and easy to use once you get used to it (I came from an N95 and I'm pretty quick already).
  • Facebook integration is seamless and awesome.

Cons
  • Text message bug seems to be a problem still. Occurs randomly but semi-frequently, but hasn't for a few days now.
  • Updating the ROM (software) is extremely long winded at the moment - don't know why, possibly because the ROM update is leaked at the moment.
  • The Facebook app is ****, although a lot of the 'problems' are also shared by the iPhone one.
  • Opera doesn't support Flash and using IE is just a plain nono.

There's a few other small niggles, but I'm very picky and hopefully nothing that can't be solved by the geniuses at XDA or HTC themselves.

My home screen (quality is better on the phone's screen, the screenshot app has just reduced things a bit):

Some apps: www.rghjones.co.uk/htc - browse there directly on the phone for the easiest installation.

I'd recommend:

TorchButton_v2.2 - An app for using the flash as a torch
Touch X LEO turbo - Improves performance by increasing cache etc
Transparent Slider - Makes the home tab slider transparent
Vovichek_Jamrecords_20shcut_m2525 - Puts a grid of 5x4 quicklinks on the home screen
brianstaskbar - Taskbar icons (see above)
curtain - Removes the semi-transparent curtain behind the network operator text (see above)
duttys - Awesome task manager
inbox - Adds a "Mark as Read" menu item to the inbox
regedit.Stngr_ARM - A basic but functional registry editor for doing more tweaks

Also see this awesome thread for loads of tweaks etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638

I hope that helps people a bit! :)
