***HTC Magic Thread***

Right, my 16GB microSD card arrived today and I'm going to root the phone since the standard 1.6 just seems sluggish these days.

From what I've read I need to downgrade from 1.5 to 1.6, then root the phone then apply the Cyanogen ROM.

Can I just follow the whole procedure as documented here?

Also, I'm not sure what to do with partions? Is there any performance benefit to partitioning the SD card or can I flash the ROM then worry about partitioning the SD card?

Or should I use this simple root method?

Try the Cyanogen link first. I tried to downgrade and it failed. I'd like to see how you get on.

Just flashed 4.2.6 but to do so I had to boot into recovery mode manually ffs, MANUALLY FFS. Seems that Quick Boot doesn't work well with 4.2.5 so had to do it like everyone else.

Also this post is more about me getting to use an Xmas smiley :D;):o:(:):rolleyes::cool::p or 9 :D er 10.

I just updated from 4.2.5 to 4.2.6 without connecting my phone to my PC. I used the Cyanogen update app on my phone to download the 4.2.6 update, booted into recovery mode to do a backup then back into Android to run the app and it updated for me.

Ah, not just me. Did you get the not responding error message with an option to force close or to wait?

Yes I got that message and it's the same with 4.2.6. Not happy tbh, I quite liked not having to expend energy pressing power and home together.
Me too. :D I had to check how to actually boot into recovery mode because I'd wiped that from my memory. :p

Oh and also MarcLister, you're like an old pro now :D
Oh yeah!

Sooo then you guys are finally getting into the ROMing business eh :p

Good stuff!
