***HTC Magic Thread***

Had a play at the Vodafone store. I like it very much especially the actual phone. Very usable, light but felt well built. Intuitive to use etc. Still not 100% sure whether to get it over a iPhone though? I am addicted to the plane landing game on the iPhone too...

Forgot to ask if the contract was for 18 months on the £35/month in store contract. :(

I do like how it uses standard USB cables to charge. Means I can always have it on charge at home and work with out having to buy new chargers. Will need one for car though.

Another note, when loading up applications it looked like the phone crashes (slightly greyed out screen, like Ubuntu does when a program crashes). A second later the application would have successfully loaded. I it meant to do that?

Also popped into Vodafone today to have a quick go and see how it compared to the iPhone. It did seem quite good but I definitely prefer the iPhone, just seems more refined and especially learning the new updated tariffs.

Tariffs have apparently all just changed and you need to add data to the £35 a month tariff making it £40 / 18 months

Magic - 18x40 = £720
iPhone - 18x35 + 96 = £726

Edit:// Appears that it might be different instore to online as it's £35 inc. data

Therefore, £630 over 18 months.

The car one is dead easy, I got one of these off the bay:

Note though, the blue LED is ultra bright if you look directly in to it :p

The coiled cable is good too, means no mass of wires tangling around, neat and tidy.

Is there a turn by turn sat nav feature on the phone store/download thingy?

Think I will order it tonight. How long does it usually take to be approved and shipped online?

Thanks for all your help Mrk. I've placed my order, subject to credit check. Not had any credit previously, and being a contractor pay is a bit irregular. Hopefully that will process successfully.

Just got a email saying it has been approved. With any luck it will now be next day delivery for Tuesday. :)

Been using mine for a week now and love it. There's a bit of a discussion on the Vodafone eforum about the "unlimited" data and what happens when you go over your 500MB. Anyone here with the Magic been keeping track of how much data they have been using?

I think the thing that's upsetting most of the people on the forum is the fact that the phone comes preloaded with apps like a youtube client which will eat up your allowance in no time. The general feeling is that Vodafone have't really thought about the data needs of a phone like the Magic.

I dont think it would matter much if you were using WIFI...the 3G signal of the Magic isnt bad but its not as good as i would like it to be.

Personally i think 500mb unlimited internet is a con...how they get away with saying thats its unlimited when its quite obvious that its limited to 500mb is beyond me.

Dont be surprised if Vodafone change it to something higher...i did ring them up fri to ask about it and had a bit of an arguement with the script monkey there...i asked him to explain what they meant by 500mb allowance as being umlimited...he then proceeded to tell me that unlimited means we can use it anytime and anywhere bit obvously not abroad:confused::confused: To say i was confused was only the half of it...its a good thing that i like the Magic a lot or else id be demanding a cancellation right there and then.

I have a net counter app that im running that keeps an eye on my internet useage...so far via 3G ive used 10mb and via Wifi its about 20mb...i dont think ill be going over my allowance anytime soon via 3G...i can see myself going over via my WIFI...but if i do id love to see Vodafone do something about it tbqh.

The 500mb is just a fair usage, so you can use it as much as you like, but if you were using an excessive amount each month they would contact you.

I've gone over the 500mb before, it was an accident but they didn't charge me.

when I had vodafone, i used to tether my phone to my laptop regularly. I went over 500 nearly every month and I never heard anything about it from them.

How are people finding these then after having them for a few days/weeks now?

Any niggles/ problems they have found? I am thinking of ordering one as soon as I receive my pac code from orange.

How long does the battery last with average usage?

Cheers
