HTC Vive

The law is the law.

Phone them back, look up and quote back to them the 'Sale and Supply of Goods Act' or get down to citizens advice maybe give trading standards a bell to find where you stand.

That's more hassle than just dealing with HTC though! Going to try and hopefully it won't be too much hassle

Well that seemed pretty straight forward, half an hour on their online chat and they came to the conclusion that the base station needs repairing because axis 1 has failed and there is no diagonal LED

I'm sure it's not if you've already spoke to customer support but just in case; I fired up my Vive after two weeks of not having chance to play and I needed firmware updates for almost everything and both my light houses had lost their mode settings.

Did you try firmware updates and reassigning the lighthouse modes by pushing that button on the back?

Ok thinking about getting one of these from OCUK, what if I don't like it, makes me feel sick, or I feel like I'm just not going to use it whats their returns policy on a perfectly working item and for how long?

Pretty sure they will accept returns, obviously the return postage etc will be down to you. If in doubt check the ocuk website for returns policy and/or phone the sales department who will help.

Just got hold of one in the US. installing it now.... disappointed to have to download the software prior to installing. Could be playing with it right now but instead, wondering how all the cables connect as there is little to no included documentation. (I'm fairly certain I know how and where to plug in and use all of the included cables and power supplies but clearly don't want to do so in case it creates a corrupt install due to wrong sequencing/software recognition etc)

You will require latest geforce drivers prior to install, so worth doing in advance if you're planning on getting a vive soon.

just trying to work out something regarding 4k and vive

if a game runs at 60 fps at 4k does that mean it will run at 90fps on the vive

thinking of dirt rally

have a set up on dirt rally at 4k on my tv and runs at 63 fps - want to make sure this would then run at 90fps on the vive

Just set it to 1440p. If it it can run at 90fps+ at 1440p then your should be good to run on the Vive at 90fps+

Suppose you could do the maths, not my strong point but guess

4k - 8,847,360
Vive - 2,592,000

3.41x more pixels at 4k so 63*3.41=214fps on Vive (and 151fps at 1440p)

Personally my 980Ti handles it fine with 2xAA, settings all maxed at 90fps+ except on Rally cross with 4 cars going around, that dips it down a bit. 1440p benchmark was something like 120fps

Finally got my HTC Vive.

Had twice ordered directly from HTC, cancelling the first one and trying to cancel the second order after seeing OC was getting them in on Thursday (today).
Ordered it on Sunday, then tried to cancel Sunday evening, but come Wednesday the order was marked as dispatched with a delivery estimate of Wednesday. Sure enough it arrived on Wednesday (yesterday) and I have been having a wonderful time playing about with it.
Easy to setup, surprised how small the playing space was inside the games, the room looks much bigger in reality than in VR.

The one thing I did need to sort out was needing another cable for the graphics card to plug into monitor and the Vive. A DVI to HDMI cable came in handy here.

Overall I'm very happy with the system and look forward to seeing what comes out in the future.

Activision, Call of Duty Zombies would be most grateful as I like the Brookhaven experiment.

Everything ive tried om it so far ran nicely on my computer and Ive had no nausea moments at all, unlike when Ive used the Gear VR playing Dreadhalls, that nearly finished me off.

I have an intel cpu i5 4690K paired with 8GB and a Zotac GTX 970 which came overclocked.

Games tried so far.

Fruit Ninja
Brookhaven Experiment
theBlu (not a game, and experience)
Unturned
Final Approach
Job Simulator
Tilt Brush
The Lab
Fantastic Contraption
Farlands (Oculus game)
Luckys Tale (oculus game, ran it but not actually played the game yet as didn't have controller plugged in)

Everything played very well and was a great experience.

Got my Vive last night and I have to say I was so excited to get it setup and start using it.

My bubble was soon burst when I got "Headset not detected" message when starting up SteamVR. I must have spent about an hour trying to fix it, trying different usb ports, 3.0 and 2.0, uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers, plugging straight into PC without linkbox, all the troubleshooting steps on steam, nothing worked still got the same message. I was about to admit defeat and think I was going to have to go through the faff of support request and maybe an RMA. Tried all sorts of stuff from Reddit where people had the same problem. I saw a comment on reddit, way down on a long post, that this person fixed theirs by starting Steam with admin rights and starting SteamVR from inside Steam. I thought this would never work as that couldn't be the problem surely. I tried it as a last ditch hope to get it working. Low and behold, I did what he said and everything worked, everything connected, it basically all came to life. I just facepalmed at how something like this could actually fix everything and it's mentioned nowhere that I could see on Steam support.
I was then filled with joy again as I started the tutorial and went into The Lab. All my annoyances at it not working just dissolved away as I had a blast from then on.
Just thought I'd post this, as if other people have similar problems, don't give up hope as something so simple can actually fix what seems like everything is completely broken and never going to work.

Packed it all away to try tomorrow, come on here to ask for help and I saw your post.

Hope it works for me tomorrow...

I love you man!!

Boom first time running as admin and straight into VR..

Wow, I had the rift DK2, but this is 100 times way more immersive.

Tried the blu and the lab.. Need to buy brookhaven now!

Its a chargeable unit from what I understand. Dropped into OCUK on Wednesday and asked about this (as well as having a blast on the Vive).
They have had people in and constantly using it when it was all first set up and I was told the handsets lasted all day without a charge.

Now that I have it set up and working. Can I move my PC into my larger room without the need for keyboard or mouse?

Would the VIVE allow me to login to windows, should I have steam starting with windows?

Thanks
