HUNGARORING - BUDAPEST - HUNGARY Grand Prix 2009 - Race 10/17

Sounds like I missed a good qauli (was at kids birthday party) and I'm going to miss teh race tomorrow (going down plymouth). Going to sky+ it.

Hoping to see him recover and be back racing ASAP but an incident such as this could have longer lasting psychological implications.

Yeah not what I wanted to see. Wanted to see a clean fight between RBR and Brawn. To see who is faster.
But even with all the mess it still looks like RBR is ahead even on warmer tracks. Although it's not that hot :(.
Let's hope brawn can do damage limitation and see if they can do any upgrades before the next one.

Oh as I'm away tomorrow feel free to grab the screen prints and sort the video/news links out and add to the opening post. If there's a kind mod.

Hmm... the latest from The Scuderia twitter says "Ferrari reporting that Felipe Massa is fine but being given precautionary checks in hospital, no apparent long term damage done".

According to it now
Following a medical examination it emerged that he had suffered a cut on his forehead, a bone damage of his skull and a brain concussion

The difference we are seeing now I'm sure is down to budget and personel. Brawn must have half the workforce from the one that built the Honda/Brawn and much less of a budget to react.

Red Bull seems to have not only caught but passed them.

Brawn doesn't have the depth to compete over a season.

19) CHANGES OF DRIVER
19.1 a) During a season each team will be permitted to use four drivers. Changes may be made at any time before the start of the qualifying practice session provided any change proposed after 16.00 on the day of scrutineering receives the consent of the stewards.
Additional changes for reasons of force majeure will be considered separately.
Any new driver may score points in the Championship.

Wouldn't this count as force majeure?

Nope why would they. Nothing brawn could have done.

Surely there's an argument to say that their car shouldn't have a defect that's dangerous to the other competitors? I'm not saying I think they should be punished, it was a freak accident, but it happened nontheless, and what the stewards think and what we do may be very different!

Picture of Massa after the crash, I'll put a warning there is a little bit of blood but it's not really horrible just a cut above his eye.

I'd imagine that spring was about an inch away from blinding him

vtec just kicked in yo!

people lose wheelnuts and stuff all the time and they never get punished for it

unless they can prove it, like the part was not crash tested. Then there's no chance.

Very sorry to see Massa have this freak accident. I hope he gets well soon.

With regards to qualifying, I was very surprised to see Alonso so confident of getting pole and then nailing it. Clearly Renault knew something that none of us did.

Was also surprised to see just how far back Brawn are now in relation to the rest of the pack. I think its safe to say that they dont have anything like the best car in F1 anymore and they will surely begin damage limitation, in which case surely, they have to ask Barrichello to support Button, otherwise before long, the RedBull drivers may be ahead of Button.

As amazed as I was seeing them come from near the back of the grid in 2008 to win 6 out of the first 7 GPs this year, I am just as amazed as seeing at just how quickly they are getting usurped by other teams/cars.

It should be an interesting start to the race, after which I think things will settle down into a procession. Any excitement is likely to come from Hamilton, if he can pull something special off.
