Hungary Grand Prix 2011, Hungaroring Circuit - Race 11/19

Can really see hamilton & button moving past vettel before the first corner tomorrow, or at least i hope they do. Leaving Vettel to fight with the Ferraris and Webber :)

bah

I have a real hatred for Vettel. When ever they play his radio feed i just want to kill him "Wooo, thats what im talking about, ring ding ding blah blah" *bang*

i think i have a problem

The BBC Stream is always *at least* 10 seconds behind live timing, just the way it is, although checking yes this is now over 20 seconds behind for me, but meh...

usually for me its only 1-4 seconds behind , beeing 10+ kinda spoils having the extra information imo

I know, I meant another set :)

If he had only done 1 run in Q3 then he would have had 2 new sets I think. Could help him get passed Vettel in the pit stops maybe.

Are we sure Alonso and Hamilton didn't use the same set of softs for both runs, with them literally dropping off half way through the lap? Meh, from the first sectors I'd say probably not, and Hamilton and Alonso just had poor final sectors but the fact that both dropped off so far.

Realistically on either a good lap or if infact they weren't completely fresh tyres then Hamilton would generally have been 3-5 tenth's ahead of Button, thats just pretty much standard, and judging by how much all but two of them gained in the final run that would have put Hamilton top and Alonso probably above Button.

Considering RBR never seem to have the same pace in a race as quali I'd think Vettel will have a serious problem in this race, frankly unless they had a 0.5second lead in qualy then races were an issue, and that was with weaker Ferrari/Mclarens to deal with.

Did anyone know if Vettel was running the old wing or not, I saw it mentioned in various practices but wasn't sure what he was running today.

Does anyone know (if anyone) used the same set of tyres for the whole of Q3?

I know 7-10 I think only did one run, so those positions dont count (and to be fair have any of them got the performance under them to beat any of the top three teams in a striaght fight?)

To be fair Im not sure LH would need TWO brand new sets anyway. If its a wet race he is unlikely to use one set of new SS's, if its a dry race that would mean having a four stint race (and given the Monaco without the houses, is a four stint race likely)?

He has to start on used SS's , one stop for 1st new set - 2nd stop for 2nd new set of SS's and then third stop for different tyre type before the end of the race. Which means four stints......Obviously the option is there if he /McLaren require it, but I would think they would only do this if they really have to (ie if he burns one set really quickly for what ever reason)

Really chuffed JB managed to be within .05 of LH in quali and in theory on the better startting side - just crossing everything for the next 20 hours or so he can get a really good start for once and not lose any places.

Feel sorry for PDR being pipped for 10th place in dying seconds of Q2 - really hoping he can carry on improving 2nd half of the season after a little blip recently

Considering RBR never seem to have the same pace in a race as quali I'd think Vettel will have a serious problem in this race, ...

Yep. I'd go along with that.

I'm surprised that RBR weren't at least 0.5s faster in qualifying, but this bodes well for the rest of the season. Hungary is one of RBR's stronger tracks and I think they may well struggle in the race tomorrow, to keep up with the McLarens and Ferraris.

Anyway, it's looking good for non-Vettel fans.

Stupidly early prediction, for a laugh:

Race
Both RBR cars and Alonso to make up the top3 (on a dry track).
If it rains, Button should make the top3.

Qualifying
Vettel on pole.

Let me revise the above prediction for the race:

Hamilton and Alonso to fill the top 2 positions
Button or Vettel 3rd.

i can see button getting a better start tomorrow on the cleaner side and possibly holding up hamilton who will pull a risky move.

i can also see alonso getting past massa on the first lap by the same reason. think vettel will hold p1 and hamilton or alonso will hunt him down.

button good chance of a podium, dont think he can win it though.

webber i think wont have a great race and will finish around were he starts.

Could rbr have sacrificed quali speed for race pace?

considering they have always had a better car in quali than the race - and their No1 driver is better at quali laps than being mixed up in traffic , that would be dubious gamble I would have thought.

Depending on the weather, and possibly even more the very start - Im really hoping JB can be top 2 tomorrow (would be a bit of payback after retiring from last two gp's through no fault of his own)

If JB can get a good start over all I think he could potentially out-race LH - but admittedly everything has to be nearer to "ideal" than LH needs to have a good race

i cant remember where on earth i got this from, but i remember hearing from somewhere that the reason the mclarens were so pants at qualifying, then were amazing in the race was because the Mclaren rear win has very good downforce, but the DRS effect is quite small compared to the other teams.

am i just talking out of my behind, or is this why the mclarens have been doing poorly in qualifying pre nurburgring. if im right, then hamilton is in a fantastic position to win the race
