Hungary Grand Prix 2011, Hungaroring Circuit - Race 11/19

Hamilton is far from rubbish in the wet. Since Button has been in the team he's usually faster in wet conditions. He was much faster at Canada in the wet.

When I can be bothered I will try to look up the races together they have had in the wet, I'd wager most of the time hamilton has passed him or going faster.

Button to win
Vettel Second
Alonso third (Mainly helped by Massa moving over obligingly on the first/second lap)

So, even though Hamilton probably has the fastest race car (given that the RBRs tend to lose about 0.5s/lap in the race, compared to the rest of the field), you think he won't make the podium?

I don't think anybody disputes that Hamilton is faster than Button in the wet. The truth is that to be good in the wet, you must have the ability to keep a calm head and not crash out. Not crashing out while maintaining good speed is the hardest part. Simply put, Button has the all-round driving ability in the wet, which allows him to outscore Hamilton in wet races.

The best example was last year. The first 3 out of the 4 races were wet and Button came out leading the championship. As soon as we started getting the dry races, Hamilton caught and passed Button in the title race.

Even this year...the one really wet/chaotic race we have had (Canada), was won by none other than Button (although it must be noted that Button did "take out" his closest competitors).

button will be failing as always if its wet and then be forced into a gamble if it pays off suddenly zomg! wet weather master..........

Button in australia-

'oh noes, i have burnt out my inters before anyone else i have to pit'
'oh noes, i can only go onto dry tyres :-('

[2 laps later of drying track]

commentators-

'oh yes, button is fastest as he expertly chose to go onto dry tyres first, he is a true brilliant driver strategist person, it was a decision in no way related to him being the first to cook his tyres'.

some fans-

'zomg, its true button truly is a driving god and chose the perfect tyres for no other reason then him being awesome'.

He's been fortunate :D

Can't wait for this race. McLaren 1-2 aswell!

That's how I saw it, but you'll have the Button fan club on the case if you say it out loud ;)

Yep he passed Button in Melbourne too which prompted Button to pit and take a gamble on tyres, both Hamilton and Alonso would've passed Button in Canada too if not for Button's 'expert wet weather driving'. :o

It's more a case of the tortoise and the hair in the wet opposed to Button being outright faster.

Surely Vettel is one of the best drivers ever in the wet.

If you can put a Torro Rosso (basically a Minardi at the time) on pole, and win a GP, that's something special.

Button, Schumacher, Barichello are also noted for their wet weather driving.

No it's because imo Hamilton has geniune pace in the wet and has been pushing to win the race. Jenson has been slowly going backwards and not able to live with the pace of the front runners, the conditions have then fell in his favour.

You can't blame him for taking advantage of his rivals mistakes in the wet but they are running so much faster, they are bound to make mistakes.
