Hungary Grand Prix 2011, Hungaroring Circuit - Race 11/19

I think you are talking about 2009.

In that year, Hamilton still beat his team mate (the only other driver with the same equipment), by a comfortable margin.

MSc is not in the same class as Hamilton, Vettel or Alonso.

What you are seeing now is a driver who is a mere shadow of his former self.

TO a certain degree MSC is doing what Hamilton is doing, overdriving the car, the problem is The Mclaren is close enough to the cars infront that driving that absolute balls off it results in higher places, which makes up for the races that don't get finished due to aggressive driving, hence he's ahead of Button.

If the Mclaren was further back on the RBR/Ferrari, then all that extra driving wouldn't get Hamilton any extra points, and his lack of finishes would put him squarely behind the slow and boring Button.

Thats just where Schumy is really, when he drives great, the car simply isn't good enough to get those extra points to make up for when his aggressive driving takes him off the track or out of a race. I mean, Schumy in Canada, if the car wasn't so crap he was on for a 2nd, but the car is complete tosh and he ended up dropping FAR more points than if he was in a better car.

The Mercedes is so completely uncompetitive to the cars infront, so slow and awful on tyre wear that Schumys aggression works against him. In a better/more competitive car, or really if there were just a couple teams the car was more competitive with I think race days would show Schumy in a much better light than Rossberg at the moment.

Schumy can have a great day, finish 30 seconds ahead of Rossberg, and get barely any more points, when Hamilton does it, its the difference between 25 points and 6-8 points, when Schumy does it, its the difference between 4 and 6 points.

He's definately one of the more aggressive and entertaining guys out on the track in most races, Hamilton, Alonso, Webber(often due to the number of times he's had to drive through the entire field) Kobayashi, and Michael are the guys who are looking to overtake, make moves up the grid and generally be entertaining, if I had to choose between Rossberg and Michael to leave F1, it wouldn't be the more entertaining, I couldn't give a monkeys about points to be honest.

Surely that also applies to Rosberg though?

In qualifying he is putting the car ahead of where it should be performance wise, as you say the Mercedes is uncompetitive to the top cars.
So during the race Rosberg is racing the faster cars whereas MSc is racing slower cars giving a skewed view of Rosberg losing places and Schumi gaining?

This is exactly what I am saying.

Now, if MSc was a newbie and had no experience (which is what we are seeing with Di Resta, who is fast but is losing points to his slower team-mate), I could well understand DM's argument.

But the fact is that MSc is probably the most intelligent driver on the grid (when it comes to F1 strategies) and he knows that F1 is about scoring points...not about driving aggressively and getting beaten by your team-mate.

Hamilton does some times overdrive the car, however, Hamilton is not as intelligent as MSc. MSc was the master at being able to score more points during the single season, than his team-mate. He was never about over-driving the car or putting on a show (ie. the style of Hamilton/Mansell), who would go fast, just because they can.

The fact is that over the course of 2010, Rosberg beat MSc. People made excuses for MSc saying that he will improve as the season continues. They also said that in 2011, he will be much better prepared. Well in 2011, exactly the same pattern is continuing. There is absolutely no change.

The problem for MSc is that he is getting older and with every year, his powers decline, while Rosberg is still young and probably at the peak of his powers, with possible improvement yet to come.

Hamilton on top in FP2 too, and with a warmer track than in FP1. It's looking good for the McLarens this weekend.

I've missed both practises today due to having some DIY to do. Hamilton top in both by 2/10ths?

Lets hope that bodes well for the weekend.

FP2 times

Like I said ..

It's looking good :p

Vettel on pole. :p

Even an out of form Vettel should be able to get on pole, on a track which is suited to their car. Germany...was a qualifying blip. An out of form Vettel will struggle in the race, though, against Webber.

I hope I'm wrong as I do not want to see Vettel on pole.

TO a certain degree MSC is doing what Hamilton is doing, overdriving the car

How have you come to this conclusion when he is consistently slower than Rosberg? if anyone is overdriving the car it's Rosberg in qualifying. The trouble Schumacher is having is he is unable to put the car where it belongs in qualifying (7th/8th) and as such has to repeatedly fight his way through the slower field.

This is true, however if the Mercedes had a decent race pace then Rosberg would have had several podiums by now and not just at a track where it rained heavily and the 2 top drivers retired.

Is it just me or is this race thread very downbeat after the TV rights news this morning..?

Pretty much, I'm still finding it hard to believe that they could be so utterly retarded. The trouble is they will interview Bernie and won't even give him a tough time over it. The last time Jake threw a few tough questions bernies way and bernie got the hump jake **** himself.

Hopefully Jordan will atleast batter him.

Look at jakes twitter feed he's already making out it's not bad news and not that bad.

Such a shame silverstone has happened and the fans missed a chance to vent to Bernie about it.

A thought on Silverstone... How much of the new developments were funded by people being told F1 in the UK was generating 6m viewers.....

Jake has and will always be a BBC drone, doing what ever his bosses tell him to do.

I suppose this now gives him time to work on the Olympics next year.

A very good point, If I was a british sponsor as well I'd be looking at my options for the money I spent.

I'm looking forward to how they spin this tomorrow :)
