Hungary Grand Prix 2011, Hungaroring Circuit - Race 11/19

All this in probably the worst Minardi ever produced (bar the 2005 model), with a 3 year old Cosworth engine in the back.

Yeah I remember being stupidly impressed with Alonso man handling that Minardi like his life depended on it! Did he make it finish above other teams occasionally too?

Loved Marks first race as it was such a surprise for how poor the team were the previous season!

Melbourne 2002 was a fluke due to half the field crashing at the start. Still, he beat Salo's Toyota in a fair fight.

That said the works deal (modified Peugeot engine) helped Mark get some better finishes:

Stupidly early prediction, for a laugh:

Race
Both RBR cars and Alonso to make up the top3 (on a dry track).
If it rains, Button should make the top3.

Qualifying
Vettel on pole.

The Red Bull burns it's rear tyres on hot tracks with long sweeping corners.

If it's hot I fully expect Ferrari to pounce on them at the end of one of the tyre stints, providing Vettel 1) gets a bad start 2) doesn't qualify on pole. Most of the time they romp away and the other teams can't punish them when the tyres drop off.

Hopefully Alonso or Hamilton (if the track is sub 25C) can hustle him in to a mistake and keep the championship alive.

Schumacher needs a trouble free race now too. Either gets a DRS problem or contact/silly niggles that prevent a true fight with Rosberg.

He's overdriving the car out of frustration it seems. Don't think he's adapted to being in a midfield team tbh.

In his first career, he could out drive his team-mate in any car.
Be it a sub-par Jordan, be it a mid field Bennetton, be it an unreliable Ferrari, be it the fastest car on the track...MSc was the master in all circumstances.

His problem is that he no longer has the abilities of old and is unable to beat his team-mate.

I dread to think what Alonso, Hamilton or Vettel would do to him if they were in the same car as him. I'm pretty sure that in some races, he would get lapped.

It makes absolutely no sense that Mercedes have MSc on their team, when they could get a younger driver in, who would provide back up to Rosberg. Mercedes could the develop the car around Rosberg and concentrate all their efforts on his cause.

To be fair Rosberg seems to go backwards from his grid position, whereas Michael makes up time (albeit getting involved in incidents\having bad qualifying sessions).

That's true, but MSc is still geting beaten by his team-mate, over the course of a full season. And that is the mark of the better driver, ie. the driver that out-performs his team-mate over the course of the full season and not just an individual race or subset of races.

Indeed. He's level on points with Petrov at the moment, will be interesting to see how the midfielders do at the Hungaroring.

but hes only performing better on points... in races his pace has been worse and hes been invisible.

no doubt you will argue the oposite i can only tell you to go check out autosport/atlas forums etc a lot of people have started to change their opinion of rosberg based on the last few races

He's overdriving the car out of frustration it seems. Don't think he's adapted to being in a midfield team tbh.

seems to be the general opinion thats forming onthe forums i frequent.

rosberg does great in qualifying but in the races hes not very agressive and is pretty much invisible doing his own race.

schumacher has pretty bad qualifying but in races hes much more agressive and without his mistakes would be higher than rosberg on points by now, he would have been infront of rosberg in silverstone without the penalty , in germany he finished 9.9 seconds behind rosberg but lost something like 15seconds on the lap he touched the grass and spun.

i remember that year hamilton was overdring a dog mclaren and made loads of mistakes, seems very similar to the more recent schumacher imo.

who are they going to stick in anyway? di resta? hes done terrible in races compared to his team mate, mercedes need a driver who can aid there development and give good feedback.

if de la rosa can be so valuable as a test driver i dont see why schumacher cant be one of the best things for mercedes seeing as testing is banned, merc have have started hiring a lot of people recently aswell look at the jobs page ;)

seems they finally realised no one else is sticking to the manpower cap so why should they

Was going to watch FP, but with the news this morning I have kind of lost interest. I will watch quali and the race for the rest of the season, but pretty gutted at the moment :(
