What ?

Are you saying you ALSO have dead pixels? It seems almost every single panel is arriving with at least one dead pixel.

Disappointment with Hyundai TFT

I received one as a pressie from the wife as I had been talking about them for the last month. However the more I read on here and other reviews, the more concerned I was that there were a number of issues with the Hyundai and TFT's in general. I'm really trying to like my new screen but:

- dead pixels... I have one but to me this is the least important issue
- Still a slight ghosting compare to my 7yr old Sony 400PS CRT
- 6-bit colour panel means lovely colour banding on gradients
- fuzzy image on games if running at less than 1280x1024

Q3 & Halo seemed Ok as far as the slight blurring was concerned but FarCry started to make me a feel a bit bleh and also looked the worst when running at a res less then the native 1280 (I have a Geforce 6800 and buying another card (GT for £280) just to correct a problem I didn't have before doesn't seem quite right to me.

Other niggly things like fiddly menu etc I've ignored. I do like the fact that is takes up less space, is less glary, is better in bright sunlight, has perfect geometry (no pincushion, uneven edges etc) but at the end of the day I didn't have any of the main issues above with the CRT and I'm wondering why on earth I should keep it. What adds insult to injury is that its extra clarity shows up poorly saved web jpegs and also enhances the need for AA in games, even at 1280..... but I guess I shouldn't let that factor really.

I dunno.... I'm trying to be positive and I have warmed to it a bit more since the 25th, but I just feel really dissapointed about it all, not least because it was a gift and also that it was £400. I hate it when what should be a great moment becomes soured by issues such as these.

:(

lol dont assume the monitor is bad, thats just one person having problems, the rest of us are fine, i can play CS happily without ANY ghosting (or blurring) and you know what the games like for speedy turning ;)

Looks like its more than just one person eh ? :/

Thanks for the heads up guys, its enough to put me off it for now.

I'm well chuffed with mine so meh :p .

My god, the population jsut grew to 110%...crowding is going to become an issue !

:p :D

Despite what I said above, i think the ratio of happy ppl is prolly far higher than unhappy. The things I have mentioned really affect all tft's... at least TN panels of 16ms or less.

I tend to notice things that some of my mates don't, so don't let me put you off. The more I read today for instance, the more I realised perhaps its just me. The basic fact is, if you want a quick response time, you can only buy 6-bit panels, full stop. If the colour banding is not an issue then don't worry about it. It still seems that the Hyundai is one of the best.... I guess I have to face the facts that I'm a pain in the arse :)

I've played with the MS Cleartype web page settings and found that option 4 seemed to be the better one overall.... it really depends on the colour background it seems. Thunderbird seemd a bit fine with 4 or above, but this forum had some red edging on smaller fonts with option 1-3.

I'm still warming to this Hyundai and I prolly will keep it.

It will do as the screen is at less than its Native resolution.

TFT always works well at its native resolution which with this screen is 1280x1024

I have Zero Dud pixels on mine, I had a rumble with Counter Strike Source MOHAA and HL2 and I'm more than happy with mine.

Had to upgrade my Graphics card to get enough fire under it to get it going great but now its very good!

Shunt....

I just got mine and it has one pixel stuck on green, it is about four inches up and four inches from the side on the right and is very noticeable against ocuk's blue background. I just had a blast of ut2004 and it performed better than I expected, not quiet as well as a good crt but good enough and I think after using it for a while I will not notice the difference as I was only just playing on a good crt this morning. I have tried rubbing the pixel with a lens cleaner cloth but had no joy, did anyone come up with any other ideas? I will just have to hope that playing fps on it for a while may cure it.

It looks like Hyundai may be pushing the technology a bit to far too soon with 80% of the panels coming with a dead pixel.

Exactly the same as when the first 15" low response time panels arrived. I'm not sure exactly what most expected. You're buying brand new, basically cutting edge technology. (In a consumer sense)

One dead pixel seems reasonable to me. Huge difference between having a dead pixel and seeing it. If one makes that big a difference I wouldn't be surprised if obsessive/compulsive is not somewhere close by:D

I have to actually spend time looking for the one dead pixel on mine cos I keep forgetting where it is! Even then you have to get up really close to the screen as they are so damn small.

I even find I can use this screen with my contacts in which I never could with my CRT, don't be put off (if potential buyers read this)as you can and do get 1 dead pixel on any tft available it's all a matter of luck.
