I found a broken cat this evening :/

Well done OP for everything you did for this poor fella and good on GD for their offers of help, its just a shame poor old Cat6 didnt get the chance to have loads of new surrogate parents

Lets not judge the owners to harshly, its an awful situation to be in and they can only go on what the vet has said to make their decision, and after all they cared enough about the cat to get him chipped so they were responcible owners

RIP Cat6 :(

RIP CAT6, and well done to both the OP and the various members of OcUK's community that volunteered to help pay the bills of a cat they had absolutely no connection to. Although a sad end to the thread, it was a great demonstration of the kindness of internet strangers.

Good on you OP and good on your OcUK'ers :)

Joined the thread a bit late, shame about the cat, but I suppose its better than letting it suffer. I agree that the owners should have considered trying to save it, but in the end it's thier decision.

RIP cat.

Sad news :(

Some owners don't deserve pets. I'd pay any amount of money to keep my cat healthy.

I would do the same, however if it was a lost cause, if the animal would live life in pain or suffered from the advanced stages of an incurable disease, putting it down may be the most humane thing to so, shame it came to this really :(

Whilst it is always sad to see a cat euthanised, the truth is this is happening every day to unwanted animals, or animals that are not a 'perfect' pet and struggle to be rehomed. The sad fact is many animals are euthanised simply because they were born, or because they are not a popular colour. I hate that it happens, but I cannot save the world :(

It is also easy to jump to conclusions about the owners but I try not to, because I am not in possession of all of the facts. There are many circumstances that could have led to Cat6 being euthanised, and it may not necessarily be down to negligence or ignorance of the owners.

But even if it was because they didnt have insurance, insurance is not the be all and end all because often the insurers wont pay out, or wont pay out enough - particulalrly if you have made previous claims.

For all we know the family desperately wanted their cat to be saved but could not afford it because their insurance had lapsed, or wasnt of a high enough level to cover the costs. They could be heart broken and grieving for their animal (particulalry if cat6 has been missing beforehand). Just imagine that heartache - your cat has been missing for weeks and you get a call from the vet and your hopes soar because he has been found and is alive. But then you are told the bad news.......

Theres lots of hate here towards the owners, but perhaps they are innocent of wrong doing?

But nice one for taking time in your life to try and do the right thing OP. Its a sad end, but at least you tried.

Only just read thread but shame to here the conclusion.

I love animals (a lot more than most humans I've ever met) so it's sad to see any form of neglect or injury to them.

My wife's Mam's last cat disappeared last year without a trace - she is sure someone local poisoned it as another 1 or 2 from the street disappeared too. Lived in a supposed nice area too - you just never know what people are capable of.

I ran a cat over once - It just came out of a bush on a 50mph road and ran straight into my car. Was absolutely devastated and probably the 2nd saddest I've felt - behind the death of my 3 guinea pigs.

Good to see OP tried, and plenty would be willing to help out if fit had come to it. Maybe not all people are as pathetic as I sometimes think

A sad outcome and a shame that it sounds like money was a factor in deciding it. That said, it also sounds like it would have been a very long and tough route for that cat into the future (not sure how old it was?). Kudos to you though OP for doing the right thing, I worry that most people would just do nothing tbh (I hope I am wrong).

RIP CAT6
Gutted to hear this, poor fella.
Massive kudos to OP and GD tho, this didn't go the way most cat threads do on here!

Owners must be ***** tho if they didnt even say thanks

Was driving along this morning and there was a cat in middle of the road on the other side that had been run over, people just driving by as it was clearly in pain. Stopped and picked it up but there was no way it was going to live. Laid it down and just stroked it until it passed away less than a minute later :( Took it to a vets but no microchip, they're holding on to it in case someone calls around.

A few months ago I was driving into work, along Histon Rd in Cambridge, when I saw a cat lying stretched out by a lamppost. I thought nothing of it until a guy walked across the road in front of me, whilst I was in the traffic, picked it up and walked away. The cat was obviously dead and I presume he was it's owner. It was a very sad thing to witness :(
