I got me 3D printer, awesome!

Finally upgraded my Wanhao Duplicator i3 to have a blower fan. MUCH better prints. Now to just dial in the temps to get rid of some of the stringing...

Nice one dude :)
Pictures of your mod would be great for other users if possible.

I'm trying to get the last few layers better but I cant
In simplify3D I tell the printer that the last four layers must be solid @100 microns. But it's still not what I want :(

Ah that's awesome, many thanks once again dude! :)

Really Sorry Randal, I'm not having any luck printing this model.

When It comes to printing the curved part my printer decides to hit a part of the print when it moves between them and knocks if off the print bed wasting the last 2 hours.

I don't have the time just now to try a 3rd time to print it. Maybe one of the others can give it ago for you?

Sorry again.

Ah nuts, hadn't considered that prints aren't universally compatible with all setups! Thank you very much for trying anyway, and I hope it's not been too much of a waste. If so please let me know and I can reimburse you for your efforts.

It can only be done on my printer with support. I will have a go for laughs but there will be marks where the supports was.

I'm bored anyway :)

edit= It started then I had a filament jam :( I will fix the file and have a go tomoz.

Ah I see, make sense given the shape of it. If you wouldn't mind that'd be superb, not averse to sanding it back and painting it. Thanks!

That's cool, I've got the filament to waste just not the time currently, and as deuse suggests it can be done but the supports would be necessary and I why trying to avoid that.

Indeed with support it should print nice, but may require post clean up. Might try and print it with a 1mm nozzle :-).

Printed this the other day with 1mm nozzle .6 layer height.

@bulb66 that 1mm nozzle looks very good. Do you use a raft?

@randal Had someone start the print and it went off set. I re-levelled the bed and tried again but no go. Sorry dude.

The guy that did it(I think) has done it very high rez for his printer. The G Code I'm seeing is way to long. Again sorry.

No raft for that, such a big surface no need for one. It's amazing to watch the extruder stepper is going constant, and the filament spool never stops, lol.

@randal

I'm giving it one last go, with supports this time.

Well I certainly appreciate the tenacity from you guys on this, sorry to give you such a troublesome print!

Seriously, don't bust a gut over it if it's a nightmare or a ridiculously difficult job to complete. I do really appreciate your efforts though, very good of you!

Sorry mate,

The last attempt had issues at 90% into the print :-(.

Ah no, right the way to the end as well!

Forgive me if I'm implying the ol' egg suck here but on the Thingiverse page it says to rotate and print lying down (it, not you although I guess you could relax :D) to remove the need for supports. Does that help in any way?

If all hope fails Randal you could try Shapeways

They aren't the cheapest but I've always been impressed with the print accuracy and quality

Tried printing it that way twice, and it failed (could be the filament I'm using). The problem I had was when moving from one part to the other the nozzle would hit the part and knock it off the print bed, this is because the part as very thin layers on the curve and the filament was curling up.

If you did use one of the printing services I be interested in seeing the result.
