I got me 3D printer, awesome!

If all hope fails Randal you could try Shapeways

They aren't the cheapest but I've always been impressed with the print accuracy and quality

My brother has been looking at them actually. Cheers Phil. :)

Tried printing it that way twice, and it failed (could be the filament I'm using). The problem I had was when moving from one part to the other the nozzle would hit the part and knock it off the print bed, this is because the part as very thin layers on the curve and the filament was curling up.

If you did use one of the printing services I be interested in seeing the result.

Oh I see. What printer(s) and filament are you using out of interest? Just so I can visualise whats happening. Really do appreciate your efforts, very good of you to persist with it.

Printrbot Metal Plus with dual extruder's and I was using Floreon 3D Filament (A new blend is out, which I will get hold off. I've always thought it printed oddly)

Ive got a Laser Cutter, its an HPC LS3060 with 60w laser... Its great fun but takes up quite a bit of room... Sorry I cannot offer any help or advice with the kits, but I cannot imagine a 3w or 4w laser will be up to much cutting and it will be pretty much engraving only.

Welcome to the club. HPC are a fantastic company and their kit is excellent and much better than anything you will find on eBay (and other companies whose kit costs a lot more!). I have an LS6840PRO and am LS1290. Next purchase may well be an LS1290 wth a 150W tube upgrade.

Deuse, what exactly are you after it for? This really does make a huge difference to what you want to buy.

Cut 3mm wood and do some engraving. The one I posted does what I need but the UK tax is silly.

My mate has a Co2 Laser cutter. It's cheap but to big :)
There is a 40w Laser cutter for £300. But again the tax problem is back. I hoped the UK made some.

Yeah, the K40s on eBay are really not the best. They need a lot of work to get them to a reasonable standard!
Personally, I would go down the 40W route, I cannot imagine that the 4W version cuts very fast at all. It seems to take ages cutting card on the videos they show.

You're right. I will go searching for a 40W one. Thanks for the info :)

Who was I that backed the filament extruder from kickstarter? Did you get it yet, was it the omnidynamic one? They post a lot of Instagram pics of them but never seem to release them?

J.

I backed that one... they send email updates once every couple of months and are always just one step away from shipping the first 50 units... Currently my unit is 15months overdue, I've kinda written the project off, I'm sure they are working hard to get them manufactured and orders fulfilled, but, the problems and hiccups are getting beyond a joke.

Can anyone spec me an alternative to spending £900 on a Big Box pro?

Basically, I need a single extruder, a large heated bed with at least a usable 280x200 (ideally 300x200) with good resolution and relatively decent reliability.
I'm put off by the seeming need for constant bed level/calibration fiddling, poor support and possible issues like bent rods etc with stuff like the Prusa i3 (the mega v3 variant in this case).

The Big Box ticks all the er, boxes, but I'm a tightarse ;p

In my opinion the Big Box is up there with the very best. It's British so support should be good.
They make and fit The V6 hotends that most people want. If I did more printing I would go for the Big Box.

Take a look on most 3D forums and you will see "how to mod for a V6" even I'm going to mod for a V6 :)

I would 100% buy Simplify3D there is no better slicer.

All those reasons along with the ones I listed are why I can't find anything that ticks the boxes for anywhere near the same price :)

S3D is also on the list, though I'd already be pushing the budget way out for the BigBox, so it'll probably have to wait for a short while.

Btw, I don't own a Prusa. I just mentioned it as it's the only thing for less money that offers the same kind of print size, and those kind of issues are just things I've gathered on my travels.
