I got me 3D printer, awesome!

I have received a Tevo Tarantula, not an Electron Slimbot. Same difference. :D

The kit itself is compartmentalised on 3 levels, and each section contains a step. Each step consists of a labelled bag which corresponds to the instructions. Handy.

So it begins... Actually this isn't too bad at all, very easy to put together even without ArcadEd's excellent video tutorials.

So far tonight in between The Division I've made up the hot end, and both sides of the Z axis.

No swarf, cross threads, or manufacturing defects noticed as yet. The supplied tool kit is also pretty good, but I would recommend an adjustable spanner or something to hold the nuts as you tighten down the allen bolts.

Seems Tevo have also listened to the community and made a few changes to the kit. There's additional washers, spring/crush washers etc included in the bags which is really helpful.

Tomorrow night I'll make up the bed and the frame, and maybe stick the pulleys on. :)

Looks a nicely packed machine, which usually means a nice machine in general.

Looking forward to seeing more Randal and xxalxx and welcome to the world of tomorrow, lol. Should have my latest printer here soon the NFire 1. Taking a break from the blog for a bit but got a few things to post about when I return.

I'm suitably impressed for £170 delivered to my door, speaking of I noticed on the shipping manifest that the item was listed as a "sample"... Guess that has something to do with the smooth transit.

I've still got my eye on an NFire1, if I take to this like I think I will then I can see myself outgrowing the Tarantula pretty quickly and then on to something else. What's the deal with shipping for that now? I posed the question on their forums, and emailed them but I've had no response unfortunately.

Also:

Little more progress this evening. Got the bed built up and the frame mostly assembled.

First the base. This is the first problem I've had on the build, the instructions are total pony and the ArcadEd video doesn't seem to cover the issue either unfortunately.

If you follow the instructions you end up with uneven heights on the rollers, the spacers/washers are out of whack by up to 2 degrees. Ugh. So what you need to do is get the copper washers and use them to balance out a bit. You'll end up with something like this:

Then happy days, test run on the bar:

And this is where I've got to so far (Division calling now!):

The first batch of NFire 1's are being sent out this week without fail I'm told, Alex has been really busy making the build videos but the forum in very quite I posted a message asking people about the 3D printing background but no replies.

Once the first batch is sent I believe its another week or so before the next, how many is the first batch I dont no but there going as fast as they can I think.

I'll have a full review on my blog asap.

Awesome, look forward to hearing your thoughts on it. :)

Also, this happened last night:

Can't put it down, so bloody addictive building it!

Did hit a few other minor issues squaring things up, one down to my own mistake by using the 2020 instead of the 2040 on the left side vertical bar (doh) but there were a few bracket/manufacturing beefs:

- So much swarf on the aluminium bars. Can of compressed air outside made short work of that though.
- The other thing is the small "L" 90 degree brackets used on the base 1540 pieces. They suck. Lots. Going to print off the decent brackets akin to the ones you can see in the image above and replace them ASAP. You'll also need some 8mm washers to use those brackets instead of the "L" brackets with the allen grub screws. Worth noting.
- Squaring things up is a bit of a challenge, but not insurmountable. You just need to use the eccentric nuts to get the guide wheels in the right position once the top bar is on. Then it's just a case of fettling until you get all 8 wheels on the Y axis moving nicely.

How can they not include that!? It's like the first thing you build in the kit! Presumably they box raided for another order and forgot to build the kit back up. Rubbish. Sorry to hear that bud.
