I got me 3D printer, awesome!

Just been offered a DaVinci junior for notmuchbucks, worth a punt sub £200? I know they use bespoke filament cartridges but you can flash them with an Arduino and use 3rd party stuff.

Was thinking of nabbing one of these to learn the ropes, then sell on when the NFire 1 goes on general release. Thoughts?

Don't suppose anyone has heard any more on the NFire 1 of late? I noticed they said they were getting close to their first batch shipment for KS backers on 19/02.

Just wondering when they're likely to have a retail offering on the go.

Failing that, anything of comparable/better quality on the market for similar money (£300-400) today?

The NFire 1 should be getting shipped very soon (I'm a backer) they currently have a supply issue with their filament supplier Floreon 3D.

J.

I wish I had now, but you live and you learn!

Have had a read of just about everything going now. Definitely settled on a purchase, just fancy scratching the itch now as I've got a few projects I'd like to be getting on with.

You could pick up a Wanhao Duplicator i3 3D Printer for £289?

*Edit*

Or just wait for the NFire 1 :)

Well I just took the plunge, bit of a punt but at £170 delivered I thought it was a fairly good risk to take. :)

Reviews are favourable, and whilst it doesn't look like a genuine E3D head it shouldn't be too difficult to mod/retrofit one if needed.

Looks great. If it's the E3D clone(J Head) before you start printing polish\clean the inside to make sure it's ok.

Be careful when you take them apart. take pics if you can of the hot end when dismantled.
I think you'll need a new throat. Only pennies but makes a world of difference

Noted, will do. Presumably they can harbour swarf from manufacturing and so on in there?

Bookmarked that link for later, nice one. :)

I've managed to find video instructions on YT for assembling the whole affair, along with a few STLs to get cracking on. Most important of which being a spool holder I think.

edit - seems base calibration is a total pig on these, think I'm going to earmark a whole chunk of time to that.

You can get those throat's from amazon. And yes to make sure the filament doesn't catch on anything.

I'm doing a mod and I've got 3 clones coming so I maybe able to help you.
As for bed levelling it's easy. Post the link to that video and I will watch it.

That looks great for the money. Will you get hit with a customs charge with it?
I'm tempted to try for one at that price.

Don't have a video for the bed levelling unfortuantely. The guy that did the build bought the auto levelling add on. From what I've read there's 3-4 screws that adjust the bed, so I think it's just a case of twiddling until it's spot on.

Regards the hot end, I'm debating just grabbing a genuine E3D V6 Lite and being done with it. Will see what the mounts are like when it arrives, but I think it's more or less a straight swap out.

If it's got an auto levelling add on then get it. Could you add it on to your order?
As for buying a V6 now, I would wait. Reason being there are 2 different clones long\short
and they may not be the same size for the real deal.

But once you've got your printer working, you can print new holders for the E3D V6 lite.

Just pinged them a mail to see if they can add it to my order, hasn't shipped yet so should be good to go.

Good shout, I'll have a look and see if anyone has managed the mod yet.

Loads of good stuff on there. Decent find. :)

I've had a reply back from 3DPrinterStore, looks like they're adding the auto-level option to my order. Even if they don't, adding an inductive probe doesn't look like too much of a challenge on the supplied controller board.
