"I hate smokers" thread

What winds me up is smokers who think they are entitled to extra breaks at work to go and smoke. I mean, just why? What makes smokers so special that they get extra breaks, yet when I ask to go and sit on my phone for 10 minutes instead of a fag break it's unacceptable?

I might as well bring my biggest pet hate up while this thread is still going.
I collect Medical Records from all areas of the hospital and it really does upset me when I walk into Maternity and several pregnant women will be outside smoking.
Walk around the corner and we have the Cancer Centre where several patients will be outside smoking while hanging on to stands with liquids going into them.
Over the road is Cardiology where the same scene will be set and 100 yards upbank will be a similar sight outside Gastro.
It just goes to prove what an addictive drug it is especially when in 100% of cases all these people will be advised to stop over and over again.

Or it proves that human beings are just generally stupid.
My next door neighbour smokes......and she is a GP. You would think she would have seen enough to know better!

They should be made to stand outside for a few mins so the worst of the smell goes, along with breath freshener and washing their hands before being allowed to return to work.
All of this should come out of their lunch break time as they should be forced to clock off to go on a 'fag break'.

Meh.. lot's of whinging in this thread. If someone is bothering you with their fag, ask them politely to move. Most don't realise they annoy you with it, and won't have a problem with it.

Yeah, I smoke. I don't smoke indoors, and I'm pretty considerate towards non-smokers. Right up until they get high and mighty about it. A lot on here would get a very... curt... response if they voiced the opinions they have in here... which I guarantee the majority of you wouldn't.

For the record, I'm very fit, climb, abseil, walk a lot, and do it a lot better than most non-smokers that participate in these activities with me.

I know the health risks, and I choose to smoke. Because I damn well feel like doing it, and I like it. So, you can take your condescending, sanctimonious excrement and put it in your pipe and smoke it ;-)

Best (read as: Worst) thing I once saw was on New Year's Eve a few years back, seeing a heavily pregnant girl, dressed as Wonder Woman, outside with a fag in one hand and a bottle of Corona in the other.

Felt like going up and slapping her for being so irresponsible. She has the choice about whether to smoke and drink but her baby doesn't get that choice. I'm sure she'll have had a fun time when it was born though and suffering from nicotine withdrawal.

That bugs me as well - preganant women smoking. It should be made a criminal offence. Because like you all pointed out - the baby gets NO choice.

The poison enters its body anyway - THANKS MOM. No. Really. Light up another one.

Bah...... kids these days. Miss the smoke filled clubs nothing like breaking the ice with a cig, really miss it and I don't smoke.

There are some massive whiney pussies in this thread, on both sides.

I've only given up smoking again quite recently after a previous stint of a couple of months of not smoking a while back, and hopefully won't go back to it. But even when I was smoking, for the last four years or so, I hated that I did it. Hated how it made me feel mostly, in the mornings. Coughing and spluttering, I could feel that what I was doing, if I carried on, was pretty likely to kill me. Then I'd smoke :/

A friend of mine who I hadn't seen for ages heard me cough as I came into the pub after he hadn't seen me for months and knew it was me from my cough. He told me about 30 seconds later and I didn't remember coughing... I didn't even realise I was coughing because I did it almost constantly.

I'm actually glad I have to go outside to smoke now, smoking is now awesome due to the amount of conversations you have with random people, but then you get the non smokers you are with moaning that they get left alone while everyone goes outside for a smoke. Well, tough, we were forced to go outside so not our fault.

I've been smoking for close to 16 years now, I enjoy it and am happy to keep smoking. I know there are health risks, but there are risks with pretty much everything you do now.

Makes me a bit sad... The justification of it all. You love smoking because you get to go outside and talk to strangers.

You do know you can do that without smoking?

I'm not telling you to stop smoking, you do what you like, but that's the kind of thing that is sad about smoking - the justifying it and trying to convince everyone all the time that you love spending £7 a day to probably die a long, slow and painful death at a young age.

I'm not going to lie though, I could go and smoke right now. I still get the nagging feeling, and it's still at the point where it's pretty much every day, but it's only mild.

stop making them pay £7 then?

or ring fence the tax for cancer research or providing fast track treatment/screening for smokers.

It's kinda hard to justify making an unringfenced profit of them then getting high and mighty about health issues.

Props to you for stopping dude :) - dont go back to it. A good way to do this is: each time you get the urge to go buy a box of lung-killer sticks write down the price of them in a notebook. Do this everytime you get the urge to go buy a box of them.

A tidy figure will appear when you add em up - now go get yourself some gadgetry with all that you saved :D

And sleep easier knowing YOUR **hard-earned** money is NOT going into the pockets of the tobacco company execs so they can buy another yatch!

I'm an ex smoker, and I hate none-smokers. I find you to be a bunch of whining sour faced whimpering grumblers. Back when I was smoking I'd make a point of smoking as near to the busybodies as possible, get a bit of that smokey smell in their hair etc. Very satisfying (almost as satisfying as smoking).

Why do people who smoke even bother washing themselves. They wash their hair straighten for two hours then smoke a cigarette and STINK. The smell is the most disgusting smell ever, it doesn't go away neither. If I'm near someone who is smoking it actually settles on my clothes and skin and I can smell it until I wash. The worse is people who smoke in their house, DISGUSTING.

Get out,you would think we had leprosy the way you have just twined about us smokers, look at how many non smokers stink of sweat:confused:

You non smokers drove us out of pubs and now your angry that we smoke in our own homes.

Oh and there is plenty of non smokers who sell cheap baccy, you can't have it both ways
