"I hate smokers" thread

I laugh when people have a go at me for smoking, in their clothes made by slave labour, in their cars destroying our planet and most likely overweight from McDonalds. So their killing the rain forest, the atmosphere and children's lives, yet I'm a bad guy for smoking a leaf that's been smoked for thousands of years and instead of dying slowly from losing my mind and body muscle at 82, I might die from lung cancer at 72. Big wow...

I'm an ex smoker, and I hate none-smokers. I find you to be a bunch of whining sour faced whimpering grumblers. Back when I was smoking I'd make a point of smoking as near to the busybodies as possible, get a bit of that smokey smell in their hair etc. Very satisfying (almost as satisfying as smoking).
Exhibit A, the typical selfish smokers attitude!

Not everyone is so mindless and besides it is an irrelevant argument. You can't justify your own actions by the negative actions of others. Or do you think a murderer/rapist/pedophile can be acquitted if he claims that he Judge and Jury drive cars and wear primark clothing?

Hi my name's Steve and I used to be a smoker.

I get annoyed with the attempts at smokers justifying their habit with idiotic arguments like 'but we're paying stack in taxes' and 'we're funding cancer research' or 'it's my choice and I'm not hurting anyone else' or 'what about the fatties or the cars or alcoholics and drug addicts'. It doesn't diminish your idiocy and it doesn't make the harm you're causing others and yourselves by highlighting other stupid and harmful things.

The thing is that it's one of the few things in life that you have real control over. Stopping doing it has real and instantaneous effects such as you don't stink nor will your breath, you'll stop wasting your works time, you'll save money and your health will take a boost. Long term you'll stop staining your teeth yellow. Your home, your clothes and your car will stop smelling like an old pub that hasn't been scrubbed in it's life. You'll get fewer colds and be overall healthier as will your family and friends because they aren't breathing in your carcinogens that you so considerately exhale all over them when outside. You won't stink out 20-30 metres of the street behind you as you walk to and from work and you won't be out of breath doing it.

It's so simple, so obvious and yet such a huge number of people remain adamant that it's their right to do it. It's simple though isn't it - you're addicts that are too weak in will and mind to make the simple change so you make stupid and selfish excuses.

I used to work with a guy who used to absolutely stink of smoke, But it was like a stale pungent smell. I'm guessing it eventually happens when you chain smoke all day long.

Eugh, Used to make me feel sick

Also we might aswell say people who drink should get Cirrhosis of the liver.
Imm pretty sure us smokers are well aware of the dangers of smoking and the effects it causes to other people, yes i do,and i continue to try and kick the habit, maybe one day i will, everyone has some sort of bad habit, mine is smoking:(

I gave up totally earlier this year, though I do have numerous friends who still do smoke. I have more important things to worry about than a little smell of smoke on me when I go out with them, even though it does annoy me a little as I always want one.

OP, you don't have to stand next to them anymore. Worry about something important, like breathing in exhaust fumes every day from people making unnecessary car journeys. This causes a much higher health risk than being in the vincinity of a couple of people smoking dried tobacco plants.

I smoke, it chills me out and I enjoy it. Yes I plan to give up and I will but yes im addicted and also have aload of course work todo so il quit once thats done.

Im not 'immune' to the smell, I dont like the smell in clothes or inside a house... Its completely understandable that some people dont like the smell but thats why your not doing it right? So if you got something to say (OP), express it maturely not just acting like its so black and white.

How can a product that raises your heart rate and blood pressure 'chill you out'

Bit like saying smack chills you out because your crawling the walls and scratching your veins whilst not high then 'chilled' after you've shot up.

Wow... its widely known that smoking relieves stress and makes people calm... I dont know the science behind it but comparing it to someone on smack is a little extreme.

Isn't it more around the comfort of a habit that is sating a desire for an addictive drug? I don't think that it's actually chemically calming.

See you've fallen for the advertising BS

What about smoking and stress?
Although most people understand that smoking harms a person's health, many smokers believe it helps them cope with stress. Since nicotine is a psychoactive (mood altering) drug, tobacco use does seem to make the subjective effects of stress (such as feelings of frustration, anger, and anxiety) less severe. But smoking is a cruel illusion; while people may feel calmer and less stressed when they smoke, their body is experiencing just the opposite reactions. Blood pressure rises, heart rate increases, muscles become tense, blood vessels constrict, and less oxygen is available to the brain and body to facilitate healthy coping. In short, smoking increases the stress level on the body.

Not going to link the article but if you Google smoking stress it's the first non sponsored link

It's not widely known. It's widely claimed by smokers.

Having a cigarette makes you feel like a non-smoker feels all the time - it relieves your withdrawal symptoms.

The smack comparison is valid.

You what I hate as a smoker? Lack of ashtrays when out and about. If there where more around there *should* be less cigarette butts on the ground.

I say should as there are still smokers who will drop their butts on the ground to save walking 5 yards to a bin, just as there are non smokers who drop litter instead of walking 5 yards to the bin.
