I HAVE PROOF THAT WITH WINDOWS 10 FREE UPGRADE IS CRAP

Surely it will just be something as simple as for people with Retail keys to ring up Microsoft if you change hardware. Give them the key for your Windows 7/8 and explain?

Or do you guys think not?

Ok this all sounds a bit pants....

Now

If you were to RMA a motherboard due to it failing.......

Will you also get a new Windows Licence from the vendor/manufactorer you bought it from???

Mind Blown...

In one place they are saying :
What happens if I change my motherboard?
"As it pertains the OEM licenses this will invalidate the Windows 10 upgrade license because it will no longer have a previous based qualifying license which is required for the free upgrade. You will then have to purchase a full retail Windows 10 license. If the base qualifying license (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) was a full retail version, then yes, you can transfer it"

However in another part of the website they are saying this:
"Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading?
Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgrade"

Ms has said all along it is a free upgrade for the life of the device.
They couldn't have been clearer on that point.
Over and over and over.
Changing the MB is a new device.

In the words of good old Trigger,

"I've had this device for 22 years. Its only had 17 new motherboards, and 14 new cpus. And here's a picture of it, what more proof do you need?"

To be honest, i would take with a pinch of salt what 'anyone' at Microsoft says as they do seem to come up with different answers at times!! We will all be waiting to see how D3K does!!

And people wonder why windows gets pirated. Personally I think MS is well past its time and we can only look forward to what open source offers in future years.

I think you're taking the wrong stance on this.

Microsoft are offering you a free version of Windows 10 on your current computer.

If you choose to dramatically change that computer, to an extent that quite frankly it is a different computer, you shouldn't expect Microsoft to give you a copy for that too.

When MS-DOS was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 2.0 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 3.0 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 95 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 98 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 2000 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows XP was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows Vista was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 7 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.
When Windows 8 was released, if you wanted it, you had to pay for it.

Now Windows 10 is released, they are giving it to you for FREE on your current computer!

Take it or leave it, the choice is yours. But give over moaning and stop trying to take with both hands.

You probably require a new key for virtual machines. DO NOT install Windows 10 and try to activate it. It may block your hardware ID (no-one knows the implications of installing it in a VM yet) that I know of after research!

It's already installed. I want to upgrade my CPU and motherboard at some point in the next year and will take my 8 licence (and unclaimed upgrade to 10) with it. I don't want to trip my currently activated virtual environment though.

I'm sure MS could make the licensing much easier then they have.

For the price 7 and 8 were available at launch, i'm pretty sure there's a lot of people out there would would rather pay that again for a retail 10. as it stands, if i change my motherboard now i have to buy a new licence. And again when i change certain other combinations of hardware, and at £100+ a pop...you think MS are doing us a favor by offering us free OEM licences and no retail equivalent? They wouldnt do it if they didnt think they'd profit from it.

Never in my life time have I ever had to pay for an OS from Microsoft :P

Oh yes, because your average pc globe customer knows exactly how to install incredimail through terminal don't they.

Jesus christ

Ubuntu is just as easy as Windows to use for a normal user doing normal stuff. But the competition is with Apple and Microsoft are not doing the power users any favours here.

I agree. £180 for a retail 10 Pro licence is very steep.
