I HAVE PROOF THAT WITH WINDOWS 10 FREE UPGRADE IS CRAP

They wouldnt do it if they didnt think they'd profit from it.

I not sure you understand how a business works fella.

No one is forcing you to upgrade. If you dont want to pay for numerous Windows 10 installations. Stay with your current license on Win7/8.

Never in my life time have I ever had to pay for an OS from Microsoft :P

I think my points still valid. :p

Ubuntu is just as easy as Windows to use for a normal user doing normal stuff.

Once configured and setup, maybe. But I'm sorry until they move away from so, so many things needed to be done in terminal, its just not going to happen.

I agree. £180 for a retail 10 Pro licence is very steep.

I agree. It is steep. But don't forget that this is the last major version of Windows. So thats the last time your'll need to buy that.

Until they release a new product that's not called windows anymore in 10+ years :)

Do we actually know that Windows 7/8 customers won't be forced to update through Windows update eventually?

Waiting for the guy with the mobo to come back...

Lol the guy with the mobo... :D

I'm really struggling to think of the last time I needed to go into terminal on my Ubuntu install... And I'm comfortable using it. For years (maybe even a decade?) now you even had a full desktop environment to install Ubuntu from CD.

Maybe. but quotes such as

“We will have a new revenue recognition model because Windows 10 will include software updates provided over time, rather than at specifically priced software upgrade events, which will result in the deferral of revenue,”

aren't particularly comforting either. Along with Microsoft announcing one thing than someone else saying something contradictory moments later aren't particularly helpful.

No, it's you not understanding. it's a substantially worse deal for system builders. I cant see forcing us to buy full price licences when we upgrade hardware (more than once as well!) will do anything other than discourage us from staying legal. 'It's free now' is not an excuse and 'stick with windows 8 then' is not a solution.

Yep, wont need a new licence when you change your motherbo...oh wait.

I get that MS are kindly giving us windows 10 upgrade for free.

But what I don't like is the smoke screen of the deal, if they were more honest and up front about it I'd be happy.

I agree Ace. We all think it is free etc but obviously there is a catch! I wish everyone would steer away from MS and use some other OS. They are so dominant. Pity Apple didnt produce software that people could use on an ordinary PC instead of Windows!

Funny because I just swapped my mobo, spoke with ms then all was fine, changing hardware is allowed.

This has been said on windows for as far back as I can remember.

I honestly think the main problem is how they have gone about this.

If you had an OEM key it should have just upgraded you and not given you a key, thats fine and we would expect that.

If you had a Retail version it should have upgraded you and provided you with a new key in welcome pack once you logged in. Or been very clear when you where doing the upgrade that you where getting a OEM version.

You think apple are the solution? I'd get banned for life if I really wrote what I think so I will just say, don't like it? Don't use it, some people say Linux is nice

Bang on. And it's getting even easier to get on with Linux all the time. The people who think you need to mess around in the terminal, even at the install point, are either very behind the times, an MS kisser, or a corporate slave. Possibly all three.

Truth is, open source is really becoming the in-thing, and I feel corporations like MS will really need to up their game over the coming 5 years.

Nopety nope nope. Doesn't like new mobo. Product Key is blocked:

Who did you speak to? I'm trying to find a contact number that works.

MS so dominant? Really? I didn't think they were quite so these days. Their phones and phone OS has struggled to date but hopefully WIn10 changes that.
Personally I think MS are doing good things and people need to move on from their thoughts of the past, often formed on other peoples opinions.
If you dislike MS then there;s even less to like about Apple to be honest.
