i just got dead space 2 but i'm so disappointed

I noticed in the past that you have mentioned you could not use your hands but seeing the video has truly amazed me, I hope they can get something sorted for you.

It's times like this Gareth, you realize how lucky you are, to be able to play games without second thought.

Then when I watched your video, it sickened me to think i'm actually unhappy with my own mouse, when you out there, is playing with your head. Truely amazing mate, keep up high pal.

thank u very much mate.

the more game companys knows about having fully customisable controls settings is very important in all games, the better.

I think you just might have just started a small movement to convince those publishers to keep producing games that are accessable for all.

Seeing as new people continue to find this thread I thought I would remind everyone that Gareth has a thread over at EA to get the devs of Dead Space 2 to enable custom controls.

It would really help put the pressure on them if you could sign up to their forums and add a comment showing your support.

Thank you.

Done. :)

Posting in epic thread, you're a top bloke Gareth for fighting through the troubles to play games like everyone else, whatever the method I'm glad you and others find ways to get over that barrier.

I say this as I have arthritis and my hands have been ruined by it, but atleast I can still type and I use smaller mice.

Hope something or someone is able to help you soon!

Great driver btw! :)

What a thread, hats off to you Gareth.

What I find amazing is that despite your disability, you've found a work around to ensure you can still enjoy playing games where there's plenty of people out there, without any disability, who will give up easily at anything they attempt due to minor obstacles. Myself included!

Just come across this from the "The 'Post something nice about a fellow member' thread", and my god you are inspirational, amazing and impressive! Game on!

Same here, really an inspiration to see this, Gareth. You have some skill! :D

I'm glad to see that your condition doesn't prevent you from enjoying games as a whole and I do hope that the support people here at OcUK and elsewhere give in petitioning and informing companies pays off so that you can play even more games. :)

I fully agree that we're at a point in time where the user should have the ability to configure the controls for a game however they wish. We all have different preferences and, as your case shows, different needs when it comes to gaming and indeed computing in general. You shouldn't have to purchase a game only to find out you're unable to play it due to control issues and, thus, have effectively wasted money.

Hopefully EA will take onboard the problem and sort it not only for Dead Space 2, but for any other games that don't allow the necessary customisation.

As a side-note, have you considered contacting the companies that develop those games that you haven't been able to sort the controls with and asked them to consider issuing a refund based on the fact that you weren't able to return them to the retailer because they'd been opened but could not have known that you would be unable to play the game prior to installing and trying it? I see the case as being different to the usual one, where people buy a game and find that it won't run on their machine because it doesn't meet the minimum spec.

I see that as being worth a shot, personally, although the ideal solution would definitely be for developers to allow full customisation of all control sets. :)

I've emailed a couple of publishers so far, awaiting a response.

Could you let me know which ones? I know someone who works in the industry and might be able to get him to put a mention in and highlight the importance of this matter. :)

Gareth.

Just read through the entire thread thanks to Gibbos link in GD. Got a lump in my throat and a bit emotional over it all.

You are truely an inspiration. I genuinely hope the devs note this and do something about it. And too note, if a donation was setup I'd happily chip in to you getting a better control system :)

Certainly. :) I messaged Bethesda and Take 2 from the contact page on their websites. I have been presenting it as either putting in place fully customisable keys / mouse options in games, or at the very least we should be able to look on the back of a game wallet and have information (like when we look for game recommended specs) telling us if the game allows full customisation. I suggested that the former solution might, if anything, increase sales slightly, while the latter could be tactfully employed to create better awareness for the consumer.

I also would be more than happy to chip in for Gareth so he has a better control system in place.
