^^I was just about to type this. No sense in emailing the same publication multiple times. We need a list of who's out there, choose one each (I'm sure there will be several people here who would help with this) and send away.

Hi,
I was browsing this thread over at Overclockers UK (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18236540) which turned into something I was not expecting. One of the posters on the forum is disabled and plays games using only a mouse which he controls with his chin. He is unable to play Dead Space 2 because he cannot remap the controls in the game to his mouse and other 3rd party applications don't seem to work. With it being the internet there were obvious doubters to his claim. His picture and video response (playing Fallout 3, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Dirt 2) was nothing short of touching and inspirational. What struck me most about this thread is not only the posters unbelievable skill playing these games, but also how he rises above the initial doubt to his claims. His attitude and videos in the thread probably opened the eyes of a lot of people leading to them trying to help.
I get so much enjoyment out of games, and the fact a simple thing like not being able to remap controls means he cannot play a game he has spent money on. Do developers do enough to help people with disabilities play games? Especially when something a lot gamers would find useful is over looked. I hope you guys at XXXXX might be do something with this that might help Gareth170 and other people in his situation that would like to enjoy games like we do.
I'm no Shakespeare
yeah thats a good idea. That email would certainly make a good starting point.
It may also be an idea to include a link to the EA thread about it, to demonstrate that it has at least been passed upwards for potential consideration, and also the petition that was linked to earlier in the thread, which shows that there is significant support for this.
something like that?Hi,

he's also made a thread on EA forum (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/4761444.page) to try to see if they could sort something out for the game.

To whom it may concern,
I am a member of the Overclockers.co.uk forums. I recently came across this thread which turned out to be something a little out of the ordinary. The thread originator turned out to be a fellow gamer named Gareth (gareth170) who was having problems changing the key mappings for Dead Space 2, but the difference being, that without this feature it would stop him playing altogether. He said he played using his chin, which sparked a few replies doubting his claim. Gareth politely replied stating he suffers from Cerebral Palsy, and posted a couple of videos of him playing Fallout New Vegas, Dirt 2, and NFS Hot Pursuit which can be seen here, here and here and also in the thread showing how he overcomes this disability by mapping keys to buttons on the top of his mouse.
This shows a great deal of determination and will power to overcome this hurdle, which frankly shouldn’t exist in today’s modern world. The attitude and intuitiveness of Gareth is truly inspirational and we are looking for a way to help him and others with disabilities enjoy video gaming as much as any other gamer.
To allow buttons to be remapped should be the norm for all games, not just a few. So far Gareth has contacted EA via the forums to ask for customisable controls to be enabled within Dead Space 2 to allow him to enjoy the game he has purchased. This thread can be found here.
We need this message to go out to as many game developers and peripheral companies as possible So in sending this message to you, I am hoping you could use your status within the gaming industry to try and create awareness of this issue and possibly pass this on to your contacts within the game development companies and also peripheral makers to try and find a more permanent and comfortable solution for Gareth and fellow disabled gamers to enjoy the games as much as any other gamer.
Gareth has kindly given his permission to be contacted directly on [email protected]
Thank you for your time
Yours Faithfully
