i just got dead space 2 but i'm so disappointed

thank u very much for wanting to donation, in all honesty it's very kind . but what if we put the money to a chairty (wrong spelling) that will help all disabled gamers like myself. that would make me feel not selfish then

Gareth, the number of people involved wouldnt bring such a substantial amount of money to help a lot of people, but the petitions and things which bring awareness will.

You had an offer from some guys doing some head tracking stuff in US, would you be up for a trip somewhere like that if the funds could be raised? With the raised profile you already have, it would certainly keep the bandwagon rolling on.

Edit - Gareth, about charity donations. You have any ideas which would be best to donate to? Thought about creating a charity for disabled gamers yourself perhaps with akacapper?
i don't think theres any charitys out there for this (well in uk anyway). we will have to create a charity for disabled gamers like myself
Also have you thought about going to the companies who make controllers for consoles and pcs and talking with them about designing a more disabled aware design and button and stick layouts that might be able to make for disabled gamer community?
that would be a good idea tbh. i'll do that.

i would love to have a trip somewhere like that but i don't have pastport so that'll be a problem?

I know it's being said a lot, but you really are a legend, Gareth. If you know of a charity, that would be pretty cool. :)

Poster Raises Funds for Disabled Gamer Charity
By Gus Mastrapa July 21, 2010 | 8:02 pm | Categories: Education, People It’s easy to forget that some folks who want to play videogames simply can’t.

AbleGamers, a charity dedicated to making sure that games are accessible those with disabilities, announced a new fund-raising campaign Monday. The organization is offering 350 limited-edition 18″ x 24″ posters created by Justin D. Russo.

The signed and numbered “Everyone Can Game” posters will be screen-printed in Chicago and shipped to donors during the second week of August.

The proceeds from each $55 poster will help AbleGamers’ mission to bring more accessibility to the videogame industry.

To learn more about AbleGamer’s efforts, check out Ars Technica’s talk with AbleGamers’ Mark Barlet on the ways that BioWare succeeded in making Dragon Age: Origins more accessible to the disabled.

Reading about Able Gamers now. Looks interesting. :)

Wow, am surprised I didn't notice this thread sooner...

Hi Gareth,

I'm Ian the Community Manager over at Codemasters for all of our boxed titles as well as being a fellow overclockers uk forum member, and I was just wondering how I might be able to get in touch with you?

I've read this thread along with some of your recent interviews and it's great to see how you've been able to enjoy Codemasters games because of our implementation of customisable control systems. I've also noticed you are a racing game fan and I'd love to be able to sort you out with some cool DiRT 3 merchandise along with a copy of the game upon its release :)

Anyway, just drop me a PM or reply in the thread and we can have a chat about some things. Look forwards to hearing from you soon!

Forgot to ask earlier, is there a way I can get in touch with you? I've a question to ask (don't worry, it isn't about freebies :p) and you might be able to help. If not, no worries. :)

That's actually a great idea. Being disabled myself, I have found gaming to be an amazing release from the day-to-day trials of living with a condition - it helps you relax, takes your mind off things like pain and also gives you a freedom that physical disabilities inhibit. Not to mention the social benefits it gives. I would never have discovered some of my best friends, or my writing if I hadn't been a gamer.

Gaming has been the best medication I've had (and I've popped A LOT of pills!). Some sort of charity that helps fund disabled people's gaming liufestyles would be fantastic - not to mention helping to shatter the media-based image of gamers being lonely nerds.

I'm afraid this idea might get lost in the popularity of this thread. What does everyone else think?

WOW.

Thread awesomeness is awesome. Sorry to hear about such a crap time OP. But well done on everyone, this thread really is amazing.

ive already contact ubisoft and "rockstar= heartless monsters" about your handicap and that you want custom button mapping, but all i want is ppl that
a) donate money for a charity wich i am working on with ablegamers, but gareth needs to contact them, so they can make a charity for ppl like him
b) send lots of emails to devs or gaming companies

so gerath pls contact [email protected] Mark Barlet, Persident The AbleGamers Foundation,
to establish a charity for disabled gamers and offcourse button mapping in ALL GAMES, even in consoles
