i just got dead space 2 but i'm so disappointed

It was a great interview.
But yeah Gareth, where is the beard man.
Beard makes a man. I know, i have got one.

Also, nice package from EA dude.
The stuff in there looks awesome.

And kudos for Codemasters for sending you a goodie pack as well.
This is how you make more fans for the company.
Not just for a franchise.

About the charities. Gareth you should prbably contact at least one of them and
talk to them about your gaming needs. But also you should ask how you can help them
to raise more money. Because well, right now you probably the most famous
disabled gamer in the world. And that alone could actually help to raise quite a bit of extra money.

Just been reading through this thread, and watching the videos of both gareth and chuck.

Been watching some of the videos and, all i can say is amazing how with the disability you have (both of which is different) you manage to get around it and enjoy your games, with your own ways of controls etc, good on you and thumbs up :)

Ive never bought PC Gamer for about 10+ years, but i will if i can buy the issue that has the interview in.

Its about time game developers started to listen, just a shame it takes them so long

Petition is over38k I'll hit devz in force in about 28 days! I'll report back.

Closer and closer to 40,000 :D

On the subject of charity stuff, perhaps an OcUK fundraising event could be set up, the proceeds of which would go to Special Effect? Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, so apologies if someone else had the idea first!

Great interview your family sound really supportive as well and that just rocks. Some of the companies etc have been really great in reaching out and I hope that long term they will implement the needed changes. One man can make a difference comes to mind :)

Got this from a MS employee.
-----------

Just to be clear, I am not representing Microsoft as a company, I’m just an employee who is interested in helping out. I work for the XNA team [http://create.msdn.com/en-US/], the indie gaming platform for Xbox, PC, and Windows Phone. XNA has many samples for developers to use, to kick start their development and help show them best practices [http://create.msdn.com/en-us/education/roadmap]. I’d like to write a custom remapping sample and try to get It published on the site (no promises!). That way, anyone developing on XNA will have prewritten code that encourages accessibility, they can include it without doing any of the legwork themselves. I can probably have a demo working before Pax, I’d love to get your feedback on it. Again, this is a personal project, so I can’t guarantee results, but I’d really love to see us implement something like this and I can at least guarantee I’ll put some real time into trying to make this happen.

Thanks,

theres 2 issues that game companys need to sort. 1. is the remapping. 2. let the game be played with any device e.g controller or mouse. the example i gave before the fifa10 to fifa11, fifa 10 u could play with it with a controller or mouse, fifa11 u can only play it with a controller... why oh why remove the mouse controls if it was already in fifa10.

Sounds like a nice guy. Hopefully he can work something out.

so you couldn't play pc fifa with a mouse only a controller? nutz!

It's great to see how fast this is progressing!
I hear Gareth has received some goodie bags, are there any pictures of what he got or does someone care to enlighten me? :D

Can someone give me a list of all signatures/lists for me to sign up for to help Gareth. Really hope this publicity helps him and others less fortunate to enjoy themselves more.

Well said, but there is even a third issue, which is the hardware side of the problem. I think companies like Razer, Logitech or Trust should really address the problems of people like Chuck and Gareth by offering at least a small range of specially adjustable products.

They will of course hesitate because of the costs of developing for such a minority and the low (i.e. loss ;)) financial returns. But they would earn the respect of one of their main customer groups, the gaming-community. This is not an item which can be set off against tax liability :p, but still a value any company can capitalize on in the form of having a good reputation and customer friendly image.

Cheers!

I agree, Razer already do a range of mice to appeal to niche markets so there should be no reason for them not to get on this.

Reading this thread and the interviews brings a tear to my eye. It's amazing what this community can really do and Gareth is a true inspiration to us all!

Did anyone see this comment on the PC gamer interview?

Maybe PCGAMER should attempt to contact Ben Heck, he specialises in making peripherals for people with disabilities. If Gareth is happy to I imagine Ben could feature him in one of his video podcasts and build him something custom.

Something to look into maybe?
