I love AMD

I think that what people are trying to tell you is that motherboard sensors are rarely accurate, again as said, they're placed near the processor so it's impossible for them to be accurate.

Your current motherboard sensor seems to be quite close, how ever future motherboards may not be.

An example I came across was my DFI LP NF3 250GB which was way before CoreTemp existed (IIRC, CoreTemp can only read AMD processors after a certain revision and this is Newcastle/Clawhammer days so wouldn't have worked even if CoreTemp was available). The temperature difference shown by the board was around 10 degrees between two different bios', so which one do you believe?

Was the previous bios right, or over reporting? Visa versa for the updated bios'.

Similar with reported voltages. I was a bit concerned with the BIOS and software reporting my 12v and 5v lines, they were quite low. Using a multimeter showed the volts to be correct.

Yeah everest says my +12v dips to 11.93v sometimes when i am gaming....I thought this was odd as I have a 750w PSU so I hooked up my multimeter and it actually goes up from 12.03 to 12.06 under dual orthos + rthdribl (max load I could think of).

Probably because the chip was new, needed time to settle in. I doubt it will stay that.

Especially considering that it's just 7c outside and I have no central heating on
Your probably doing all sorts of damage to your body, hyperthermia anyone ?
I think people are rather jumping on the "your so stupid" band wagon, its pretty obvious youve said some daft comments in this thread......but does that have to be repeated 10x ?

temperature sensors are crap, there wrong a lot of the time, i mean imagine this...you go into your room, its pretty cool, turn on you PC (in sig) to see the temperature of CPU is 97*C  i think i have an iffy sensor as well, got -20*C once with ambient temperature of 26*C, now that is impressive

Here you go:

That's after 2 1/2 days running solid.

And to everyone saying temperature sensors are crap. Fine, I'm not really debating that. But then every time someone posts a temperature reading in this forum, it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Including water cooling.

If Core Temp can't give a reasonably accurate reading of a CPU temperature, I doubt much can.

Well not everyone is a giant wimp such as yourself :p

Having central heating on isn't a good thing. Far from it. Bacteria and germs spread far far easier in warm environments than they do cold.

If I'm cold I'll just go stand by the fire for 10 minutes

Good advice for the Winter. I'll be sure to pass it on to my elderly relatives :p

Jokes aside "16c constant" was way off but I'll concede that you're unusaually low ambient temps would give you similar temps that you were seeing in core temp.

Make sure your pipes don't freeze this xmas!

Not really. CoreTemp will provide accurate temperatures because it reads a sensor in the CPU core. That sensor will report the same temperatures, whichever motherboard it is plugged into.

Mobo sensors, on the other hand, are inherently variable and inaccurate. Even if your current mobo sensor is OK, you shouldn't depend on them as your next mobo could be well out. Why not just trust the CoreTemp readings from the CPU itself?

Colds aren't bacteria, it's a virus! Not to mention your own natural defenses aren't nearly what they are in warm conditions when you're cold. Don't you think that everyone would get ill in the summer otherwise? :p

Damn this thread is great. Makes me feel like a moron for running phase-change now, could have saved a packet and bought a HSF

Just brought a Athlon 64 6400+ Black Edition running at 26'c idle with a ZALMAN CNPS 9500 AM2 my main rig is a q6600 go and to be honest cant tell much difference in every day use..

Spent most of today putting together my new system. I chose the Athlon 64 6400+ Black Edition Dual Core 3.2GHz, and got it brand new for £95 (+ VAT).

Wow. This thing rocks.

16c constant temp, and XP is running like lightning.

If you don't want to overclock I seriously recommend this chip to everyone.

Long live AMD! :D

sounds like your room is like 5 degrees
