I think i just lost my licence

Man, you can really count yourself unlucky. Like all of us we do stupid things when driving (occationally). I myself have overtaken in stupid places, but learnt that it is better to just sit behind someone than run the risk. Just ashame you had to learn in such a harsh way.

One thing I am surprised about though is that it was caught on video, always guessed that those video camaras had to be switched on

I will be looking out for you on Police Camera Action then.

Try not to worry, you may well lose the license but at the end of the day, we all make mistakes. Just be sure to learn from them.

yeh, my mate crashed on the motorway (trying to come of a junction far to late in ice conditions). had to pay £50 and go on a course.

The same thing happened to me when I was overtaking a car at about 60-70mph in a 30 :o The oncoming car just happened to be a police car but luckily for me it wasn't a traffic car and just flashed its headlights at me. It made me realise how stupid and dangerous my driving was though and my driving has calmed down a lot since that encounter.

Every post you make convinces me (and a lot of other people, it would seem) that you are an idiot.

So, you get the honour of being the first person on my ignore list *ever* and a helping of these:

See...I realised this a few weeks ago but don't use my ignore list; idiocy is better avoided when you can see it ;)

i misjudged and had to swerve back in to avoid an accident.

I think this is the crucial point. If the Police car had to swerve off the road to avoid you then almost definately a licence loser but as you were the one who took avoidance there may be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel?

Anyway live and learn but don't let it take over you. Worrying now isn't going to help (easier said than done I know)

I have misjudged an overtake. I felt like a fool as had to pull back in, into a tight space between two cars too.

I should think there is a few of us been in that situation :(

I thought the highway code suggested that if you see a car overtaking you, then you allow it to pass and allow sufficient distance between you and the car in front in case the overtaking car needs to pull in. Unfortunately in this country, too many people disregard this and actually close the gap so that you can't get in front of them

EDIT: From the Highway Code:
144: Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.

/Edit

Good luck though Malt, I hope that this doesn't take you off the road for the sake of a split-second mistake.

something very similar happened to a good mate of mine, wasnt a police car though but he hit head on at 60, screwed him up big time :(

just count yourself lucky you didnt crash, take the points and if they take your licence away just remember you're still here

sadly my mate lost his for a year and had a £300 fine as well as lose his job, fiancee, car (ya dont say :D)

just count yourself lucky you're not in a hospital bed right now, or worse

edit - good riddance violent j :o

Malt I reckon they might send you on the special course for special children (you know the policemans benevolent fund one that they run to keep the old boys in work when they leave the force). It costs about £250 and is over two days.

I have been caught on video, and charged with Driving without due care and attention, and was apparently lucky not to be arrested..
Sorry haven't read all the thread But you won't get banned for that.

Dangerous driving is the killer one:

Careless driving and driving without due consideration - Section 3 RTA 1988.

This offence is committed when the accused's driving falls below the standard expected of a reasonable, prudent and competent driver in all the circumstances of the case. (Wilkinson, 5.41 to 5.82)

Dangerous driving (Section 2A(1) RTA 1988)

A person drives dangerously when:

The way he drives falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver

AND

It would be obvious to a competent and careful driver that driving in that way would be dangerous.

Both parts of the definition must be satisfied for the driving to be "dangerous" within the meaning of the Act. (Archbold 32-17) (Wilkinson 5.04)

the person i was referring to in the previous post got a CD10, driving without due care and attention and was banned for a year, but then again he did actually hit someone

probably not what you want to hear right now though sorry :(:(

my mate has had a similar thing - DCA - i think he took 3-6 points for it.

its not going to help your insurance but i hope it makes you think as it sounds you have been doing about overtaking, on normal roads.

is it really necessary unless they are really backing you up? i think some drivers should just relax and stick to the limits which are in place , even if you feel you are in control, of what you are doing, you cannot always control the actions of others.
