I have a Gigabyte GA-Z170MX-Gaming-5 with am using XMP with my Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB and noticed in hwinfo that having the voltage set as auto lets the bios up the voltage to 1.38.. To add insult to injury on the memory setup screen it actually says the profile is 1.2v :/ If you set it manually to 1.2 all is ok but that is a bit crap on Gigabyte's part.

So I found out my 4.7 @1.36v OC wasn't completely stable yesterday. Failed Prime95 after a few minutes and IBT as well. Jumped back down to 4.6, and I needed 1.37v to to be fully stable! Ran prime successfully for 8 hours. Look like I haven't hit the silicone lottery :( For 4.7 I will need 1.4v+ so its not worth it unless I delid. Would rather have a silent system than 100mhz

Is it me or did CPUs not degrade as fast back in The Day?

They did actually :)

IIRC when Intel first launched their Core chips it listed a maximum of 1.65V memory voltage, where many manufacturers were used to pumping up to 2.2V through their 'performance' units. There was a year where memory diverged into "for Intel" and "for AMD", and choosing the latter for the former would cause bad things.

It's not surprising given the voltage difference. I'm surprised any vendors bothered to support DDR3.

8GB 3866MHz-C18-20-20-40-2T 1.4v 6600K 4.6/4.3 - All other settings in auto besides VCCSA at 1.35v

Google Stress App Test stable.

Just recently got mine, loving the FPS boost on games I play lol

Updated from a i5 4670K.

GTA 5 on low I used to get 20-30fps, now I get 70-90fps on very high xD

Mainly got the 6700K as I want to stream more often and render video's a lil quicker.

whaaaaat?! I refuse to believe that performance increase

what gpu?

Has anyone upgraded from a 4790K to a 6700K? Is the same TIM still being used here?

Just curious as to whether 6700K would have lower temperatures and achieve higher overclocks than the aforementioned.

Both use the same type of Tim so will still run hot under certain programs. Due to ipc improvements, a 6700k at 4.5ghz matches a 4790k at 4.7. The latter being pretty much standard oc for the 4790k. No idea on the average higher oc for a 6700k but 8 Pack has stated that 4.5ghz on 1.300v give or take is pretty much the norm. Obviously you get ddr4 support too which can run much faster on skylake compared to ddr3 on haswell.

Asus Z170-Delux 1.25v running at 4.5ghz
temps 27.26.24.27, idle Corsair H100i 240mm
under prime 95 temps 64,,73,54,75, aprox 2.5hrs
corsair dominatior platinum memory at 3000Mhz
cine-bench R15 score 998
i would say Prime 95 seems very demanding when i had my cpu at 1.35v under prime testing it would get up to mid 80's
so decided to drop the voltage slightly
running stable but just keep getting error code 40.
so need to find a fix for this issue :)
overall very happy with it running at 4.5Ghz
and i probably could push it more but i am more than happy with it.
