The girlfriend is due back from South Africa on Monday and also the parents are going on holiday on Monday too - doesn't look like any of these are going to happen!

It's amazing how this little volcano caused so much disruption, how bad would it be if Yellowstone decided to erupt? End of days?.

Air travel would be the least of our worries tbh. :p

Looks like the trains are going to be packed on tuesday and wednesday. :/

Supplies of the following are set to run out within a few days:

asparagus, grapes, green onions, lettuce and pre-packed fruit salads.

Britain's largest perishable goods air freight handling centre, at Heathrow, is at a standstill.

However, MOST of the UKs food imports arrive by sea, so it is only a few specifics that will be affected, eg some of the more exotic fruits, and some fresh flowers. Very little comes in by air.

We are also lucky that the UK has a such a large domestic pharmaceuticals industry..........

i bet Iceland are going to run low on food stuffs etc, we send a plane(757) there every night with food etc and it comes back with fresh fish for Morrison's n tesco etc, that plane hasnt been running since thursday morning

It seems as if it looks like there's no real way of determining when this cloud is going to clear up.
Nanna was meant to be flying to Canada on Tuesday, doesn't look like that's going to be happening.

Lets just hope Katla doesn't go off, although I find the actual activity of volcanoes fascinating, I think the effects it will have will be pretty devastating. And I've got a holiday to USA booked in July... :p

Luckily Kuoni have moved our holiday back a week (supposed to fly out last night) and are happy to move it as needed or give us a full refund. Got to say their service has been first rate as usual.

Latest from NATS:

Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Saturday April 17, 1445

The volcanic ash cloud from Iceland is moving around and changing shape. Based on the latest information from the Met Office, NATS advises that the restrictions currently in place across UK controlled airspace will remain in place until at least 0700 (UK time) tomorrow, Sunday 18 April.

There may be some airspace available within Scotland, Northern Ireland and England north of Leeds up till 1900 (UK time) today, which may enable some domestic flights to operate under individual coordination with ATC. We will be coordinating this closely with airlines and airports. We would repeat, it is most unlikely that many flights will operate today and anyone hoping to travel should contact their airline before travelling to the airport. After 1900 (UK time) today, Met Office forecasts show the ash cloud progressively covering the whole of the UK.

We will continue to monitor Met Office information and review our arrangements in line with that. We will advise further arrangements at approximately 2100 (UK time), today.
