If you don't have Facebook you don't exist... virtually

Well that's sort of how I use it as well if you read the above (for the photos at least - I just use RSS for news feeds to save trawling websites), and I've no intention of starting to post irritating boastful pics and statuses, but it still feels like the entire site is setup and centered around supporting exactly that - don't you think?

Not really, it has hundreds of elements built in and its up to you which you use. So yes they're built in, I wouldn't say its any more central than the groups, photos, messaging, etc. elements though.

Provided you set it up correctly, it's only full of your friends.

Don't you understand you absolutely have to follow everyone else and accept every request, not use the block/hide options for games. And generally act like a sheep and use it like the stereotype.

It's **** like this...:

If you like it then why do you care if other people don't?

This is why I hold that a lot of users don't actually like the fact that they're there. Nearly every time when I say I'm not on/dislike FB I get attacked. Very odd reaction. Coincidentally exactly the same reaction of people who are in denial.

No I realise that, I just now consider Farmville to be one of my friends.

True, I suppose since I don't really use many of those other features it makes it seem more focused than it actually is

As someone who has always been against fb, i have always found the reaction from users of it, when i criticize the site, a bit out of the ordinary. Its not as bad as it used to be. But some people defend FB more than they would other sites for some reason. Some people get quite worked up when it is criticized.

In the past (not specifically here but in general) if i said its a rubbish site. People would attack me saying that its crap for me because i have no friends etc. Or they get all worked up and defend it, by giving me a lecture on how it works for them. Its like they feel like they have to defend their use of it, when people criticize it.

I suspect this is just down to the number of times that people constantly complain about Facebook.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan - I maybe post a few status updates a year, only ever upload photos when I actually know a group of friends might be interested and the rest of the time I just casually browse it to see 'what's going on'.

The reason I defend it, is that (in general) all the complaints you read are just people jumping on the hate train.

There are so many easy solutions to almost all of the various criticisms and if you still don't like it - then just don't use it. but when you start up yet another internet thread/post/youtubevid/whatever about how you hate facebook, then all you're really doing is creating an annoying 'status update' which I'm bored of reading.

Maybe you just need some new friends, who don't 'attack' you for simple things.

As far as this thread goes, I think people are just fed up of the 'I hate (don't use) Facebook' threads. You're not being attacked, people are just explaining to you that it is perfectly possible to use Facebook without experiencing the problems that you've complained about. But if you'd prefer to just not use it, then fine.

I don't get people moaning about FB.

It's not like we're born and tagged to have a FB profile or not get a birth certificate, nor are we forced to put in every details to promote yourself if you're just there casually. We all know they target their marketing, they need to make a living on your free info, that you're using for free. T&C, it's all there.

FB is there for anyone to use, you don't have to pay, you don't have to promote. Like many have said, it's a tool for you to use. Don't like it, move on, if you're worried about how people judge you because you have no FB, you're no different from people who use FB promoting themself to be judged.

I personally love it, it allows me to know who I know should keep close or at arms length. For some reason, people on FB shows a lot more of their inner thoughts.

Got someone that started ranting and posting their thoughts on other people based on colour whilst in face to face situation, we have not a problem nor do I see a problem with him talking to other racial creeds. Just makes it easier to avoid such person in future.

The same can be said on the other end of the scale, making new friends because we suddenly realise we share a common interest! Share a beer over it and viola, made a better friend.

I watched a documentary a few weeks ago and they showed how fb have a massive department simply policing the entire fb contents, and these guys are evil ! I think they believe they are the police. They report any minor incident even if its a smallest of comments or jokes, and believe me it destroys peoples lives.

In the documentary it showed a guy who who said "im gonna d****** new york, as in he wanted to drink n party all night. Blokes now banned from America and each airport he requires a full security check.

They even reported facebook owner and showed documents he works with the plebs and authorities, yet when the cameraman wanted to interview him and ask him why he is leaking personal information out he refused and simply asked to switch off the camera..... its not nice when someone's doing it to you is it !

I actually know 2 people who's lives turned upside down due to fb.... I have since had a similar situation and now deleted it.

Fb is just big brother think about it the plebs get all your details and photos and up to date survelliance and information...... anyone could post a picture of you without your consent and tag you.

Am sure no one will deactiviate fb since its like a must have function. It would be like not owning a smartfone or internet, but once you go through an ordeal yourself you will learn the hard way trust me, Privacy should always come first.

No they cant just tag you. If you wish you can set it up so you have to approve tagging.
Fb is real life, don't post crap, that goes with all internet.
