Iiyama GB3461WQSU-B1 - Flat 34" 1440 144HZ 1MS IPS Freesync for <£400

Can't say I have noticed any high pitch noise either, don't know if it makes any difference but remember reading before about monitor speakers and this being a problem, so my monitor speakers have always been turned off and disabled in the sound device settings.

My screen still sometimes splits on the right side but it is very rare and everything else is as it should be so I'm happy enough especially for the price, could pay twice the money for what will be more or less the same screen on the whole and still encounter problems, particularly with bleed and dead pixels.

We just need cost affordable OLED monitors to arrive already, LCD on the whole is just embarrassingly bad when compared with it.

So I got my replacement today. So fare no dead pixels and I think the firmware is different as well as with +2 overdrive overshoot is very little compared to my first sample where +2 overdrive would give major overshoot.

I'll update as I get more time with the unit but so far so good. I'm smiling like a spoiled brat right now.
Can you find out what firmware version you are on?

As pretty sure mine looks better with +2 and no overshooting too.

Nice one Phix, glad you finally got lucky with the monitor lottery!

Still thoroughly enjoying mine too, just need a next gen GPU to arrive now as 3440x1440 is quite demanding for my vega 56, at least for wanting the 100+ FPS :p

Hmmm, my monitor in the last day or 2 has started intermittent flashing, turning it off and on doesn't seem to resolve it, again, seems very random though....

Going to have to wait till ocuk get them back in stock before I do a RMA though.

What's odd is during long gaming sessions, never any problems though

Can you RMA after that long? Isn't it supposed to be about a month before anywhere gets them in stock?

Don't know how it will work tbh, still got the 30 day DOA but.... I ain't going without a monitor for potentially months :p

No other monitor ticks the boxes and I simply refuse to pay £800 on old inferior tech. and I just got rid of my other one there so nothing to fall back too.

I don't mind even if they do an on site repair or something as at least that way I know it will be fixed and hopefully avoid the monitor lottery of backlight bleed, dead pixels etc.

Well ocuk have said once I am past the 30 day period, it will just go of to iiyama to be repaired, as said, I rather have that for the reasons listed above and if it comes back still faulty, I could get a refund and depending on the age, a possible partial refund.

It's funny as the display has been fine since that last post of mine now..... Thankfully I got lucky for backlight bleed and glow and so far no pixel issues and during actual gaming, no issues ever *touch wood*

Such a sad state of affairs the monitor market, it really is. As good as this is especially for the price, it still amazes me just how poor LCD is compared to OLED, I'm not one to over exaggerate but it is literally like comparing Jackie Stallone and Gal Gadot.....

EDIT:

That 27" 1440 nano IP 144HZ g/free sync monitor is £380...... Very temping but not 21.9 :(

I certainly hope it won't come to that for you. As I'm refusing to touch VA panels anyone ( can only get burnt so many times) my options are either the 4k IPS's which is sadly only 27 inches or the more expensive LG ultrawides. But for the price of those, I can basically get a C9 or almost a CX OLED which is just bonkers value in comparison.

Yup hopefully not... Don't expect mine to last long though :p But at least got 3 years warranty with this unlike most other monitors that only have 2 years warranty... Once again, another joke compared to TVs that have at least 5 years warranty

Exactly! It's mad the pricing considering what you are getting, it's why I refuse to spend more than £400 max on LCD now. No matter the refresh rate or whatever, there is absolutely no coming close to OLEDs motion clarity and IQ with guaranteed blacks.

I'm actually very tempted to just get a B9 for a little more than what this IIyama costs and CRU it to support freesync. Though don't know yet how good the input lag in game mode is.
I can't say I have any problems with input lag on my e7, even in 60hz mode and with vsync but then I also use a controller when playing games on the telly and I don't play any FPS on the telly so it's not too much of a biggie for me personally.

I also don't use game mode since all of the post processing effects are already disabled, much rather have the accurate picture of technicolour preset.

You'll be blown away by it, by far been my best tech. purchase out of everything.

Funny, no problems now for last day there..... :/

I give up..... at least during gaming it has been flawless *touch wood* :p

If only I could get away with a giant TV on my desk :p

Haha yup, think it is ridiculous people who have 40"+ displays on their desk, best setup imo is OLED TV mounted on wall or somewhere you can sit 6+ feet from and then just the usual desktop + monitor setup to go along side it.

Don't bother worrying about HDR on a monitor, it is crap, even on the monitors that cost ££££, the only thing that does HDR any justice is OLED and a few select high end LCD TVs.

Main reason to buy this monitor is purely for the price and specs you are getting, you literally have to spend double to get anything like this, hopefully the next batch or 2 will be better but who knows....

I'm not going to risk buying one of these again I don't think.

No point in having a nice monitor if it's horrendously unreliable. At its current rate of 3/8 being broken, I can't imagine it bodes well for them in the long term, but who knows.

Reminds me how much I hate buying monitors lol....always the worry of dead pixels or a multitude of other issues.

Yup, was why I give up on the monitor game 4/5 years ago, primarily cause of bleed, buy oled and never have to worry about crap blacks :p

advanced contrast should be turned off.

ideal settings for brightness should be between 10-25 and contrast set to 50

You won't get any good HDR outside of ££££ tvs

Yeah, and start to worry about burn-in. It is still here, ghosting and burn in were greatly improved lately but still a problem. Ive been happy owner of 65'' LG E6 for 3 years and witness the same on my TV :(

Can not decide myself CX48 vs Some Monitor

Unlucky :( Had my e7 for about 3 years now too and still all good although I don't use it as a "monitor", purely just for gaming, tv and films.

HDR on anything without full array local dimming or an OLED is pretty much in gimmick territory and is pretty bad.

This.

Unless the screen is OLED, don't bother with HDR, it is pure **** on LCD, well except for a handful of screens but they have FALD, which actually allows HDR to work how it should.

Probably be very hard to get that punch as the contrast ratio for this is rather low, even for an IPS at 800/900:1. What is your contrast ratio coming out as after calibrating it?

Also, could you post all your monitor OSD settings here too please.

How do I find out the contrast ratio? [Edit: Just found this out. I'll try and do it over the next few days for you]

The colorvision creates a custom monitor profile which covers the various colour settings. The rest are currently:

Brightness: 75
Contrast: 46
Black Tuner: +3
(Everything else off)

Colour: User Colour, all set to 100 (Note: the default profiles look off to me. Cool is too blue, Normal seems to desaturate everything and warm is like watching my Nan's telly).
Blue Light Reducer: Off
Gamma: 2.2

I-Style: Off
(all other gimmicks off)

I might do a bit more tinkering as I'm not happy with the white, which is appearing a bit greyish at the moment.
Thanks.

Goes to show just how different each panel is when it comes to the variance in what settings for accurate colours.

These 2 reviews have slightly different results from their calibration.

I don't have a calibrator so my settings are:

brightness - 13
contrast - 50
user colour - normal
BE - 0 (although might up it to +1 as do notice lack of detail in darker areas)

Woah, I've just decreased my brightness to 13 and the whites are just really dull and grey. How odd.

I would say that visuals are as much user preference as science, I guess much like sound. The calibration profile won't change the monitor settings of course so will then adjust back from there. I think it only adjusts for white balance and RGB too rather than changing contrast or brightness.

I'm happy to share the configured profile if anyone wants it, although obviously that would be based on my particular panel.

No idea about your room lighting but generally 120 nits is the recommended brightness, which for this monitor is about 10-15% brightness, it is very jarring at first when used to a high brightness but you do get used to it and your eyes will thank you in the long term :p Not to mention, blacks look far better as you drop the brightness on IPS screens.

But yup exactly, know some who love over saturated vibrant colours where colour bands just blend together and others who love washed out colours! I just go for whatever is supposedly the most accurate.

Personally I never bother with doing any changes via profiles/software though as find with games, it never stays or get reset so try to do as best as I can with the monitor OSD settings.

I would say the only other LCD based displays that would be "noticeably" better are more likely going to be at least £1k and then the ultimate question is... are those displays worth that kind of money?

That's largely why I got this, a monitor of these kind of specs should only be about £400 to start with, if spending £800+, then look at LGs OLED TVs instead as they are going to provide a heck of a lot more for your money.

I just set mine up and it looks awful ;/ it looks very washed out?

I'm coming from a 6 year old samsung PLS panel, I would have expected this to be an upgrade. Is there any guide for calibrating this?

See few posts above.
