Iiyama GB3461WQSU-B1 - Flat 34" 1440 144HZ 1MS IPS Freesync for <£400

Here is a picture of the backlight bleed of mine. You can also see the orange hue at the bottom left of the screen. Ignore the orange lighting behind the monitor.

Anyway mine is being collected tomorrow for the scratch at the back. Even though the RMA got accepted over the phone when the monitor was still in stock, the lady said that they have to inspect the monitor before sending out another one, what if they don't have more stock to send out.

What brightness is the monitor at?

I have a VA and ips I'm returning.
The IPS has a bit too much back light bleed, and I dunno, the VA doesn't seem as good. Even on blacks. I have no idea why.

Yup, VA seems to be very hit and miss in a lot of areas.

As long as mine is as good as my lg 29 in terms of glow and blacks, I'll be happy, if not, then RMA time.

This was my LG 29 IPS monitor with a brightness of 120 nits (the recommended) and exposure adjusted to reflect what it looked like with my own eyes

Absolutely shocking that this is STILL a problem in this day and age, doesn't matter what price you pay, there should be no bleed whatsoever, sadly even the £800+ monitors still suffer these problems. The sooner OLED monitors arrive the better.

Thankfully I am in no hurry so will happily play the RMA panel lottery.

Could be that, although the reason the other monitors are so expensive are also down to monitor manufacturers and etailers gouging. Also, Gibbo confirmed 4/5 years ago when UW first came out that the reason they charge more is because of the people RMA'ing

Backlight bleed within reason like dead pixels is not a fault, so I guess it depends how they are feeling, LOL. Of course CCR can be used but legally if they believe it is used and cannot be resold they can essentially charge you a restocking fee (upto 25%).

I suspect the monitor price increases at etailers across the board is coming from increased returns on CCR due to backlight bleed, some people have good reason, the bleed is beyond acceptable, others returning for IPS glow and doing it several times over.

We keep CCR restocking charges to an absolute minimum, but it means we end up with a huge amount of B-grade monitors sold a big losses to the company, so we either increase upfront margin to cover it or we start implementing more CCR restocking fees.

On another note we have also applied huge pressure on certain manufacturers to start taking returns on monitors for excessive bleed so the retailer is not the ones getting stung.

If we're going to have to play the RMA game here, expect the prices for these to go up soon due to re-stocking fees.

It was all looking good for me, no dead pixels and backlight bleed that I only really noticed in a dark room with the lights off...Just started playing a game for a bit and had exactly half of the screen start artifacting all over the place. Kept going until I turned the monitor off and back on again, few reports of this online with this monitor. Maybe it was too good to be true! Going to give it a bit more of a test but maybe we have another RMA on our hands...

:/

Something tells me ocuk and other retailers won't be buying any more stock if there is going to be a high RMA count for these faulty monitors....

Have asked for a poll to be created, is your monitor faulty? yes or no option.

Out of interest, the guys having problems that aren't related to backlight bleed and dead pixels, are you using nvidia GPUs? Wonder if there is a problem with nvidia GPUs and the "freesync" or perhaps a problem with the cable.....

I voted yes based on the half screen artifacting issues (and split panel offseting) but then I have had it not just when coming from standby, either working in Windows or in a game. Turning the screen off and on again seems to temporarily sort it but it really makes me distrust the monitor. I know £400 is a reasonable cost for the specs of this screen but it is still £400 for a product that seems to have issues doing its primary task!

I would be RMA'ing that ASAP.

Screen could cost £100 and it still shouldn't be doing that....

Yeah, I am. I am a little sad as when it was working, it was great but I have 0 trust in it (it is already boxed back up) and given the responses to this thread, I wouldn't be buying another even if they were in stock!

Yup I was going to play the RMA game but if the one I get has problems, it'll just be going back for a refund, that and I doubt many places will be stocking these for much longer anyway.

Shame as I really need a monitor with more screen real estate but I refuse to pay the extortionate prices for the other 34" 1440 144HZ monitors, they aren't worth double the price, guess the only option is just to keep my eye on the MM, probably best as at least that way you know it has been tested and can see photos of backlight bleed etc.

Iiyama really have messed up here, they could have been onto a winner and brought the monitor market back to a somewhat sensible market :(

Gutted, already emailed about a return. Looks like it shattered during manufacture or something. No damage to box or to the monitor itself.

Jesus christ........

I would say that the monitor could still crack if dropped, even if there is no damage to the box, it doesn't take much force to break any type of display.

Maybe it's time monitor manufacturers/etailers have a word with couriers.

Must admit though, kind of looking forward to the **** show that mine will be when it arrives as I am not blessed with hardware luck at all :D

Just set mine up, in perfect condition and image quality is very good. I'm actually moving from an Asus PG348Q to this, for the 144Hz and Freesync. I can tell you that the image appears identical to me and I'm usually quite picky (cannot go with anything other than IPS panels for documents due to eye strain and blurring of text). Need to get used to the lack of curve but I don't think this will take me too long. As others have noted, I found it very bright out of the box but this tends to be personal preference - I'm on 35/35 for brightness/contrast. I've found the build quality better than my PG348Q, namely because the awful back of the monitor on the Asus *really* let's it down.

There's still hope for me then! :D

You get yours from ocuk?

Seems like it should be ok then!

If I keep it, it'll be going on the arm and sit pretty far back so shouldn't have any problems either

*watch as I get a perfect panel and the arm breaks*

:p

Well surprisingly mine came today, no text or anything to say it was arriving!

Was a bit worried as damage to the box, however, all set up and it looks very promising! Ever so slight amount of bleed with the typical IPS glow, one stuck pixel near the bottom I think. I will say that the blacks do look better on my 29um65 I think but that was exceedingly good for an IPS panel.

Matte/anti glare finish, more of a hazy effect than the LG I think, however, the increased PPI/higher res. definitely offers a sharper experience, think I would rather have a smoother finish personally but all in all, I can't complain too much....

Will post more thoughts later as got to get back to work now.

But so far, definitely thumbs up from me!

Will keep my eye out for these flickering/sleep etc. issues.

I wonder if this is a firmware problem, will we be able to update the firmware ourselves....
