Iiyama GB3466WQSU-B1 Curve (1500R) 34” 1440 144Hz VA panel FreeSync Premium Pro

id also like to add that I cant see any flickering on this latest unit, upgraded firmware shipped directly from iiyama, tried 144hz settings and freesync on, on a couple of games (though i dont hit over 80 FPS on my 980ti) using cables the screen came with

Unfortunately I'm not having much luck with my GB3466WQSU-B1.
It has what seems to be dirt behind the front panel, either that or a cluster of dead pixels.
It has the new firmware, alas flickering can be observed on a 2060S at 144hz. Am using the included DP cable, I have a new DP 1.4 8k 60hz / 4K 120Hz cable coming tomorrow.
I haven't tried many games, where I saw it most is Far Cry 5, when looking at the sky and back down at the ground you have eye adaptation going on which brightens and darkens the view, at those moments flickering can be clearly observed.
Also, the smear on this VA panel is quite strong when doing the eizo monitor test, I have tested numerous settings, nothing get's rid of it, overdrive 0 or +1 seems to be best.
I was testing this monitor against a Dell S2721DGF which is a 27" flat IPS g-sync compatible certified monitor. That one has no such issues.
The ultrawide and curve is really nice but the dirt, flickering and smearing are just too much for me, it's like motion blur which is something I hate and is the first thing I turn off in all games along with DoF and Bloom.
Colors are decent and can be tuned, I also like the back light uniformity, the OSD is also good, much better than my AOC's.
I'll report back once I have the new cable and performed some more tests.

I bought an 8K vesa certified cable from the rainforest for mine, fortunately I seem to have a panel with no dead pixels and the latest firmware. Current settings if it helps anyone:

Brightness: 60
Contrast: 50
Eco: Off
Blue Light Reducer: Off
ADV Contrast: Off
Overdrive +1
MBR: Off
Black Tuner: 0
Color Saturation -8
Gamma 2.2

Color Temperature: User

Red: 98
Green: 96
Blue: 84
I-Style Colour: Off

HDR: Off
Freesync: On

I've come from an IPS panel so missed the brightness of it, hence the above.

Has anyone used this screen on a mac? it seems i get different colour display when using the monitor on my 16 inch macbook for work, its so washed out and milky next to my old screen, but then it looks ok in windows on my desktop, so the monitor settings arent consistent across both OS, wondered if anyone else experienced this? My older Dell VA looked pretty much the same reguardless

EDIT: Resolved this, interestingly in Mac OS, it auto ticks use HDR mode for the monitor, but i had HDR turned off on the monitor. LEading to a really horrible picture quality. Unticking this in macOS config restored the screen to the colour reproduction i would expect, good tip for any mac users!

I got my new 8K 60hz 4K 120Hz certified cable and did a few more tests.

So it wasn't the cable, the flickering is still there.
100 or 144Hz Freesync enabled = flickering.
100 or 144Hz Freesync disabled =no flickering.

In 7 Days to Die at the main menu is where I test it as the flicker is 100% reproducible there. It flickers in other games too, menu and in game, if it were only menu's I wouldn't care so much.
The funny thing is that because I also have the dell S2721DGF next to it if I put 7 Days to Die into windowed mode at 3440x1440 and drag it so half is on one monitor and the other half is on the iiyama only the part on the iiyama flickers, so one can definitely say it's a monitor bug and nothing to do with drivers or GPU. As soon as I move it over to the Dell it's fine, if I turn freesync off it's fine.
Unfortunately according to the OSD and splash screen images mentioned before I have the new firmware.
I could have lived with the slight VA smear, would have exchanged it of course due to the dirt behind the panel but the flickering is a no-go so it's going back, going to have to wait for a more reliable monitor.

Have you tried going to Nvidia control panel and setting the Gsync settings to full screen only? Then double checking your games are running in full screen mode.

I did, it may have slightly helped but the flickering is still there and with such a huge screen it's very noticeable.

Also, for me, I need it to work in windowed mode too, I play most games in borderless window mode because I run a 4 monitor setup and when alt tabbing a fullscreen game most of the time it causes the monitor to briefly go black and then all monitors start doing that and go off and on a few times, it's annoying and wastes time, running in borderless window mode alleviates that issue nearly always.

Thanks for the tip though.

Ah ok no worries. Only other thing I can think of is maybe turning off HDR? No idea if it will help or not but maybe worth a try.

I'm in the endless pre-order queue for the Gigabyte G34WQC, but the iiyama is in stock. Has anyone ordered and received any of the iiyama's in the last 3-4 days? Would look into going iiyama instead of Gigabyte, but only if I know OCUK's current stock units have the updated firmware. I have a 1080Ti. Thanks.

I've used this monitor with a 1070 and 2080S, both have had the flicker issue. I've tried almost all the solutions in this thread including buying a new DP1.4 cable but nothing has worked. I'm on the newer firmware. Some games work better than others but some are absolutely unplayable, for example AC Odyssey has constant flicker and is unplayable with freesync enabled. In the past few days I've also noticed even with freesync disabled and on desktop I have the rare occasional flicker so at this point I'm beginning to think my panel is defective.

Mine does the same, I don't think yours is defective, just that the issue hasn't been fully resolved with the firmware despite claims, some people notice it more than others. Seems to be an issue with all the cheaper 34" curved monitors, iiyama, xiaomi, aoc, gigabyte.
I'm returning mine, saving up to get a gsync compatible certified 34GN850, it's also IPS, I don't care so much about black levels and contrast, I don't play game in the dark and the VA with black crush and smearing isn't attractive to me, my last gsync certified lg panel also never had a flicker issue with anything.

Thanks for the reply, at least I know I'm not the only one having so many issues. Hopefully it's fixed in the future since the monitor is great otherwise imo. If I could afford it though I'd probably do the same as you and go for a g-sync certified ultrawide.

Hi, Can some one please let me know what is the screen uniformity like on this monitor? I sit 60cm away and had to return the Acer Nitro X340CKP 34 IPS flat screen because the left and right sides were noticeably darker than the centre. It was ok if I was 90cm away. I wonder if the a curve screen will offer better uniformity. I use spreadsheet for work hence more noticeable on a plain screen.
How far is the edge of the screen from the wall if the monitor is placed against the wall? My desk is only 65cm wide.
Thanks

Seems to be quite good though I mostly play games and it is VA so does not have the IPS glow lighting issues.

Your probably issue may be the curve.

Mine is really good, zero complaints.

the only thing I have I *think* is one dead pixel. Weird because it’s not a clear black dot.

I might be a bit picky, but this screen is pretty bad.
Black text on white background work fairly well, but everything else handles movement very badly.
Try it yourself: Start a cmd type dir[enter] and then move that window around. The text is horrible while moving (white text on black). I tried this on my old 144Hz monitor and it is a lot better.
If you set overdrive this gets less bad (far from good), but then instead other colors get bad when scrolling (black text on yellow background is horribly bad). Scrolling like this happens all the time, and puts a contant strain on the eyes.
When playing games or watching movies this is less of a problem but FPS games "feel blurrier" than they should.

My monitor also has a flicker that happens every now and then when running at 144Hz (with or without g-sync/freesync enabled). At random moments it suddenly blinks and usually a pop is heard in the speakers. It's so sudden that for some time I thought it was my imagination, but it started when I changed graphics card to one that supports DisplayPort 1.4 and can run the screen in 144Hz.

All in all, I just cannot recommend this monitor.

I have started to get intermittent flickers - not whilst in-game but even on the desktop.

I am glad @noll1 mentioned the pop in the speakers - I thought it was my imagination too.

I've checked I have the latest firmware according to earlier in this thread - I have the splashscreen - but I do not have "Freesync Premium" in the OSD Image adjust menu - just "Freesync"

Can anyone confirm that it says "Freesync Premium" or any other way of knowing the firmware? (why they can't just put a version number somewhere is maddening)

All in all, I really like the monitor for gaming - which is all I do on it.

Yes, that's what my splash screen looks like - however my OSD doesn't say "Freesync Premium" as per the same post.

This comment : "Looks like it has the old firmware, if you're playing a game with freesync on and it still just says 'freesync' under miscellaneous instead of 'freesync premium'"
