THE EDITION FOR THE FEW

  • The Windows PC version of IL-2 STURMOVIK™: Cliffs of Dover
  • A unique 50 *50 cm cloth pilot escape map showing The Battle of Britain strategic locations.
  • A exclusive official replica of the Pilot’s Notes on the Spitfire I Aeroplane, provided to RAF pilots during The Battle of Britain and reprinted from the RAF Museum original document
  • An in-game 120-page ring binder pilot instructions.

Surely the collectors edition is WIN?

i cant wait for this , i had no idea about it, i love Sturm 1946

Same here, loving 1946 at the moment. I've just ordered Trackir5 in anticipation :D

The hardest thing in this sort of game is keeping your eye on the enemy. Spacial awareness is critical, and Its just too hard using the hat on my joystick to flick through cockpit views IMO. I can use Trackir for my race sims as well which is a bonus.

Agreed, I just hope it arrives before unlock date!!!

You will love the track ir, it cranks up the immersion levels by a huge margin :)

My apologies Dano!

You're absolutely right!

Just checked Ubi's online shop and the normal version is available for £34.99. Bugger!

It was the Q&A on the forums that I read the CE was the only boxed version available in the UK:

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8071032709/m/5151024809

Specifically:

In the UK the CE is the only boxed version available to buy.

No need to apologise, it's not your fault we've had conflicting information and that UBI's webshop is utter rubbish :)

My order confirmation email reads:

This order will be shipped after the release date of 28/03/2011 for IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover - Collector's Edition.

So, if true, should receive in time for unlock date.

X52 PRO here I come :)

I've recently upgraded to a Thrustmaster Warthog, and am selling off my X52 Pro (boxed). Give me a shout if anyone's interested, I think it'd work great with this game.

I would be interested but you have no trust details.

Any chance a mod could merge this thread with the other?

EDIT:- Apologies Gimpy I thought that was somebody i knew. ignore.

That's not to cast aspersions on him though. I just don't know the chap.

Need some help guys.

X52 PRO with throttle and stick....... OR...

A CH stick for the same price and getting a good throttle afterwards?

I have read the CH sticks are very plasticky and lightweight? Is this true?

CH kit is, for me anyway, superior in every way to Saitek kit (I have an X-45 and had an X-36 in the pre-USB era). You're not going to get industrial quality build, but it does the job for me. Mind you, I bought industrial quality in the form of the poxy Thrustmaster Cougar, and that was the worst money I ever spent on this hobby. The most expensive doorstop in human history... unless you use a diamond-encrusted gold bar.

Anyway, where Saitek gains is in offering you a great, cost effective, all-in-one solution, including the all-important rudder control. With CH you're looking at quite a lot of money to get a complete solution... by which time your interest may have wandered onto something else. :-)

Personally I've been disappointed by Saitek's sloppy joystick control too often to try them again, but it's still very hard to steer new users away from them. There may be a case for starting there and upgrading (reselling the Saitek) if you get deeper into things.

Andrew McP... expert in nothing other than wasting money on joysticks for nearly 20 years!

PS IMO the throttle wheel on CH sticks is fine for most purposes. It's the missing rudder axis which is more of a problem. If you have pedals with a wheel already that makes life simpler.

I've had a Saitek X36 and X52Pro, never had any slop issues with either of them. The only issue I have with the X52Pro is the odd response curve but that can be modded and bearing in mind that it uses HAL sensors there should be no slop at all in control response even if there is a little play in the physical stick where the springs cross over.

A Ubi forum manager posted this:

Finally, if you buy the physical version of the game, there will be no need to download anything additional in order to play the game. An internet connection will be required to activate the game, and for online play, but that is it. The game only uses SteamWorks for match-making and not the Steam DRM.

Wut?
