Images of items I have purchased (except trainers [no feet pics])

I've been gradually reducing the amount of stuff I carry. I don't use the 40 for traveling much now. It's a fantastic pack but more recently I downgraded to a Porter 30. For travel I now use that and a small sling to carry my passport etc through the airport. 40 would be the absolute largest I would consider on a longer trip. 55 would definitely be overkill.

Minimalist travel:

How do you find the 30?
Because I'm still in the return window. But as a new travel I thought it might be too small?

I love it. But unless you're used to traveling with a 40 then going straight to a 30 might be difficult. I can only fit a few tshirts, a couple of trousers, underwear, washbag and charger. So you wouldn't be able to take spare shoes, lots of shirts, etc. I would personally stay with the 40 for now and only reduce in size in the future when you get used to it. Most things I have for travel are now very small and lightweight, all my charging is off USBC, etc, etc. Just try taking less than you think you need to keep the bag light. A 40+ can get heavy quickly.

e.g. This is my USBC charger that I use at home and also for travel:

But it was great when a colleague had to check his carry on bag when the flight was full and I managed to just about squeeze mine under a United seat.

Thanks for the tip.
I think (as you day) I'll stay at 40 and get used to it. I must admit.. I opened it and went.. Doesn't look like much space!

But I know it can be done.

For a weekend break I suspect I can take my 18l and that's all.
For a week or more the 40 + 18.
No way I want to be lugging a 40 around all day.

My usbc wall charger is only a little bigger. But it has same design.

This is my travel system now. It worked really well on two trips to the US (a week each):

Porter 30 for my main carry on.

Tomtoc sling for carrying passports and also for use at the destination:

Osprey ultralight backpack if the sling isn't big enough. This folds into a really small little ball in the main pack:

Osprey ultralight washbag. This has a detachable clear liquids pouch. It hangs most places when space is tight in a bathroom. It also opens out and lays flat in the main pack if needed so takes less space:

The big trick to to just take less stuff and be prepared to wash them (in a sink if needed). So wear one pair of traousers and take a spare. Never take denim (too bulky and heavy). Take 3 or 4 tshirts, etc. Take one pair of shoes that can be worn anywhere. I take a folding manual toothbrush. I find solid soap is better than liquid because it takes less space in the liquids pouch and can be used for washing me and the clothes if needed. I am bald so I only need to take one smallish travel shaver for my face and also head (USB chargeable). It's like watching pennies to save pounds; I watch grams to save kilograms.

It's probably become a bit of an obsession now and doesn't suit everyone. Saving space and weight gets addictive :)

That's pretty neat.
I was looking at that osprey toiletries etc pack myself.

Not sure I could be without my rigid 18l pack yet. Especially with it's water pouch. But it does take up a large footprint being solid frame.

That stuff backpack is insanely small when packed down!

One more thing... I'm not sure whether you're male or female. But the Fairpoint is made for women and the Farpoint is made for men. I'm not quite sure how they differ but I think the hip belt and shoulder straps may be slightly different on each pack so they fit each gender better. I just thought I'd mention it so you got the right fit (there is also a small and large in the Farpoint, which depends on how tall you are).

From memory of other purchases he loves womens clothing/rucksacks :p

That Osprey stuff bag is brilliant though. I often will use a rucksack (i only have a single cheap Trespass one) to either take stuff somewhere or to pick things up which means one leg of the journey is with an empty rucksack. That would be great to just stuff somewhere.

Treat em like a lady!

I like the fit and the colour! :D

Wireless CarPlay adaptor for the Tiguan. Saves having to plug in a phone to use CarPlay, plus I'm getting the new iPhone which is USB-C and the wife's has Lightning so less faff.

Cool, i never realised any of the bigger brands had jumped onto this. I've only ever seen more generic Chinese products

Let me know how it is, if it works well I may grab one.
It gets recommended on the Tiguan Faceache group all the time so figured I'd go for it rather than buying cheap and possibly buying twice.

Luckily the M3 has wireless CarPlay built in so only need the one unit.
