Indeed it was just one example.

A big one is people doing thier own simple electrics and invalidating thier home insurnace or other silly things.

I do love the rules around wiring your own house and insurance, had a massive argument with my house insurance provider when I rewired mine.

Apparently having industrial qualifications and HV authorised isn't as good as having a part p and nic registration.

So I had my eye on it for a while, having had an interesting visitor previously which I unfortunately answered the door to. A couple of weeks ago I had another interesting visitor who knocked on the door in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. Upon checking the CCTV, he had a good snoop around the front of my property before 'seeing if anyone was in' but then clocked the CCTV camera and made for a quick exit.

I went straight for the subscription at £40/year for 5 days of recording mainly just to get the aware features, if there was just 24 hours option then I would have gone for that. I keep my main CCTV along the perimeter for longer recordings. Camera quality is good (much better then my Sisters Ring doorbell), the lens is very wide, would suit a flat fronted house very well. It is slightly annoying that both Google Home's don't announce visitors in perfect sync. The delay to phone is <2 seconds and about 3 seconds to the Home. The Hello is has a speaker chime inside it which I hear first from inside. I really like the push notifications to my phone with a little gif video. Loading the app takes you into a live view very quickly. It would be nice if the Home's announced activity without the button being pressed.

The install wasn't as difficult as I was expecting, I used the below items, already had a spur off the lighting circuit that I used. I was wanting to go into the door frame with the wire, but it contained a inner metal frame that made it too difficult/impossible so took off the silicone sealant and hid the wire in that. I reckon it took me 1 hour to do. Probably spent about double that working out how to go about it!

I've been interested in getting a Ring Doorbell for a while but we don't have a doorbell at the moment and I'm definitely not good enough at DIY to fit one from scratch.

Need to look into getting an electrician to fit one and how much it would likely cost.

Awesome thanks for the detailed review!

It's interesting but I'm just not sure if I will 'benefit' from it. Already have CCTV with line cross detection push alerts at night (can make it 24/7 if I want) so just trying to see if this will provide me anything 'new' / useful for the cost.

Epic big mousemat. I was toying with a "Made in China" off-brand but decided to go for this CoolerMaster mat instead. 90cm x 40cm. I Like the fact it has no names and the only branding is the purple outline of the CoolerMaster logo (which apparently glows in the dark). Got this for my work desk. So so much better than the tiny square mat I had.

Really like that - the minimal branding is a big plus for me.

I also didn't have a doorbell so used a firm called 50Five. They offer installation for £99 which includes the transformer and a battery powered chime. I was pretty happy with that. Think they have a 10% code too at the moment but i didn't see that and ended up paying £328 for mine. As mentioned it seems much better than the In Laws Ring 2.

I believe there's a deal on HDUK where you can buy from Argos for £190 with a free google home which is a great deal!
