Inception - July 16th

Watched it on the 16th, a last minute thing and was increadibly tired going in (I had never heared of the film or what the reception was, like I care about that stuff anyway...) the start I found odd, as I had no idea about the dream thing and in my lack of sleep delerium, I found it hard to get to grips with what was being said.

But because they kept reminding the audience of what was going on and the rules, I found my place and managed to watch it normally.

Such a brilliant film, could use a BIT more character development for the support characters and possibly a recast of decaprio (He's a good actor, some scenes were amazing with him, but for the most part the dialogue was wooden as it was basicly explaining things to the audience...maybe it wasn't his fault...)

I haven't seen a film this year that touches this film in terms of creativity. I've always been interested in the whole lucid dream (which I'm sure was inspiration for this film)...

I'd give it an 8/10...maybe even a 9 because this year has been so abysmaly bad!

Off to see this on Monday, I think. Desperately trying to avoid threads, forums, newspaper reviews, tv spots on the film, I don't want too many spoilers.

Ignore everything. Get off here now, just don't look.

Turn off your computer and burn the tv (if you're unevolved and still own one that is)

Simply amazing, the film will go down as a modern masterpiece. Really cant fault much about this film. Chris Nolan has been very impressive

Saw this last night, incredible film. Sure, it was fairly complex and 'intricate', but I wouldn't call it difficult to follow if you have more than two brain-cells to rub together. Very cleverly done and the visuals are jaw-dropping at times, and it didn't feel overly long at all to me.

Awesome film.

I thought it was good but not great. I am usually a huge fan of Chris Nolan's work but I just don't think this is his best film. And so because I am usually impressed by his use visuals and story arc, I just thought Inception was a bit too much this "I have seen this before" type of feeling too much for me, which is not just in comparison to his other films, but in other people's films and with that I felt a little disappointed.

What also didn't help was that about 2/3 of the way through the dialogue was completely drowned out by the music. Lots of us complained and we got free tickets to see it again or another movie. Think I'll wait for the blu-ray though and go see another movie.

For me it was a 7/10

Spoiler question:

THe one thing I cannot understand is the first and almost last one, with Leo and the old guy at the table. WHo is the latter and what does it mean? I completely didn't get it.

Edit: I understand the movie as such was mostly a flashback from when he is eating at the table. Was the oriental guy their partner who got shot and went into limbo. Did Leo join him because he got stabbed? How did they get out of it and wake up on the plane?

The old guy is the chinese/japanese/taiwanese/oneofthese guy through the film, the one hiring the whole crew. He's really old because he's been in limbo for a while, cus he died in the 3rd(?) dream. What isnt explained however is what happens to Fischer while he's dead (does he go into limbo?)- this may however be reversed since he's resuscitated(i dont fully remember that exact part of the film, so i may be speaking BS)... Leo joined the oriental guy because they were on a plane to Los angeles, so he needed saito to be alive and sane in order to grant him access to the country, or else be arrested upon entry. It's not fully explained (i dont think) how Leo finds him/joins him, and moreover it's not explained how they got out of there (unless i am again speaking BS), but i think this is meant to be part of the story, as we don't know if its still a dream.... Also in the "real world" i don't think we ever see him spin the spinning top, since he keeps getting interrupted-- could be dreaming the whoooole thing....

Kind of a spoiler.................

I think it's assumed that they shoot each other/get shot as Saito kind of pats the handgun Leo had with him. This would seem to be logical when you compare it to how Leo and Mol got out of their limbo by 'killing' themselves with the train.

Yeah the last scene was confusing was he dreaming as the totem didnt fall but wobbled?

sid

His totem, the spinning top, wobbled whereas whenever it was spun in a dream it carried on and on perfectly.

Saw this on Friday and thought it was great. Lived up to the hype although it does drag a little in places.

Don't go for a wee though else you'll come back and have NO idea what's going on.

What a great movie. This is probably the best movie I've seen in the cinema for a good while.

=====SPOILER======

As for the ending I think he was in reality. Whenever he was in the dream world he could never see the childrens faces but once he returned home at the end he could. As for the the spinning totum, who knows. As soon as I saw him spin it I knew the film would cut off there.

Another thing I was thinking, Cobb was trapped in limbo with his wife for 50 odd years and was already like mid 30's? And then also went into limbo towards the end which was not stated as a given amount of time, but judging how much Saito had aged, it could have easily of been well in excess of 50+ years. This could make Cobb's soul well over a 100 years old........Crazy!

Yes but this could be because he hadn't let go of his guilt. Where now he has let go of his guilt and let his wife go that he is now ready to move on and see his children. The not seeing of the faces could have been the subconscious telling him he needs to move on / forgive him self. And not being able to see the children was the goal the mind created so he had something to live for.

OR

its the real world.

My mind is blown... well and truely

I do wish that the spinning top stopped though and they didn't leave it down to the audience to decide :p

**********************************************************

What I dont get is when Cobb stays in order to save Saito, how come Saito has aged tonnes but Cobb hasnt?

Each level down equals more time spent in relation to the level above, Saito had been there far longer, it was all explained during the film and the whole plot was balanced on this very fact.
