Indian Grand Prix 2011, Buddh International Circuit - Race 17/19

It's a pity that off the racing line the track was so dusty that the drivers avoided some good overtaking areas.

Hopefully with better use by other sports and the lack of construction dust next year it will be a more exciting race than it's debut.

****** the secret is out, we design and manufacture totally different parts for both cars...oh ******

They get the same bits, how they set them up is down to the driver and engineer.

Having seen the LH/FM incident a few times now, I think the penalty was a bit unnecessary. Should have been chalked down as a racing incident IMO.

Imagine for example if that corner had a barrier on the outside, where does Massa go with Lewis on the inside of a fast corner? Both equally at fault I'd say, Lewis was going for a rapidly disappearing gap and Massa deliberately turned into him. Contact was inevitable.

On a lighter note... On your marks, get set...GO!!

Good race, Hamilton and Massa - lol :D

Racing incident, but neither one gives the other space.

Edit: LOL , Massa broke his suspension again. I wish Ferrari would put a deserving driver in that seat.

He simply goes wider and breaks more to compensate for the tighter line, it's called racing.

Contact was not inevitable had Massa accepted that Hamilton was making a move on him and prepared to come back at him at the next corner. I guarantee Massa's mindset was "oh no Hamilton is overtaking me I won't be able to get back past him so I'll try my luck in a collision and hopefully he'll back out" knowing that any penalty is likely to go in his favour.

If it wasn't for the constant penalties being dished out for every single collision the drivers would accept that they are there to race and that causing a collision with the attacking car is not the best option.

Bit of a procession today - think the new track deserved more but thats dust for you - no one could use the extra width to their advantage to make new overtaking lines - hopefully this improves for next year if they ensure the track gets regularly used and cleaned before F1...

Best 3 drivers in F1 on the podium with Vettel on top - standard outcome to a race really. Off to watch forum...

ps3ud0

I think the penalty was given as Hamilton has to pit because of the crash and Massa didn't. It evened it out between them.

exactly what I thought at the time also - if no actual damage had been caused, it would probably have just been a racing incident (although LH would have clearly got passed if Massa had given Lewis the space he was supposed to - ie LH would have still lost the place / chance to pass unfairly)

As Brundle said though - it was a little stupid of Lewis to actually choose to try and pass at that point

-edit have to say how stupid does Massa have to be to break his suspension in exactly the same manner two days in a row? I REALLY hope Ferrari put someone else in that seat next season

I'm not sure the dust made that much difference, it's not like we saw drivers stuck behind slower drivers for laps on end, it was just that they fell rapidly into the "right" position for their track speed and didn't really change from there. Everyone of interest was running similar strategies and after Massa hit Lewis there wasn't much going on to generate interest.

I don't think that's really down to the track.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit harsh but given how they've treated Lewis all season anything else would have been inconsistent.

Massa was well able to stay on track.

Both equally at fault I'd say, Lewis was going for a rapidly disappearing gap and Massa deliberately turned into him. Contact was inevitable.

The only reason Lewis wasn't fully alongside Massa was because he slammed the anchors on early in a last ditch attempt to avoid the accident. Massa had checked his mirrors (you can see his head move) so he should have known Lewis was there and he shouldn't have turned in on him.

Contact was only inevitable because Massa made it so. Had that Button been the car in front both cars would have made it through the corner.
