Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (2024)

^^ Quick comp TAA native vs DLAA vs DLSS Quality & Performance. If you zoom in to detail areas like the lampshades, or even without zooming in and just look at the floor by the dor opening, you can see missing details with both DLSS such as AO on anything on the floor the light would occlude. The lampshade on the left is missing fine strand detail too whereas it is most detailed using DLAA compared to native TAA. Interesting to note the GPU/CPU utilisation as well. DLAA is clearly the most detailed and "full".

Be interesting to see how this changes come the path tracing update.

Edit*
Now locking the game to 85fps for an even lower GPU power draw and lower fanspeed. Actually not noticing any real motion difference between 85fps and 100/120 - The movement is so precise in this game that you are getting instant response either way, so if you can, then lock the fps to a lower than usual value, in other games for me it's 100fps, but in this game 85 is perfectly fine.

Also, I saw a monkey in the Giza town area come out from a large door top and drop a chalice:

Moments later I came across a store vendor where the monkey belongs but can't seem to do anything with said chalice so suspecting just a red herring

The town area is quite dense and really stunning, too, definitely a great place to show off hardware RTGI:

Be sure to explore properly as NPCs call you over and give you hints on new discoveries, also areas you find on your own have books to learn new skills etc.

The video points out that it's not really "max settings" though

To put this into perspective, an RTX 4060 only has 8GB of VRAM but I can run the game at 1440p resolution using DLSS in balanced mode and with the texture cache, shadow and hair quality settings suitably adjusted, I can the game locked to 60 frames per second very easily. Still worried about running compromised texture settings? Check out the video as I go into depth on how the cache works - for much of the time, even the lowest texture cache setting can still look fine. At high settings and above, I would say that textures look pretty much the same most of the time. And that is really all I have to say about optimisation: the key to good performance in this game is making sure you are keeping within VRAM budgets and that is about it – those are the optimised settings.

Exactly :)

This game and games like avatar, cp 2077 and UE 5 titles are extremely well optimised when it comes vram "management".

It'll be interesting to see how path tracing runs, I'm expecting it to be running rather well on GPUs with RT hardware, maybe similar to cp 2077 path tracing or even better.....

Here is my list of triple-a games to play of the top of my head:

God of War Ragnarok
Silent Hill 2
STALKER 2
Black Myth Wukong
Ratchet & Clank

Got loads more actually, but those are some of the bigger budget games.

Other ones I have installed and want to play or resume:

Everspace 2
Age of Mythology Retold
Star Trek Resurgence
Wasteland 3
Sifu
Terminator Resistance

Oh and maybe one day will resume Calisto Protocol

Besides that got a bunch of Fighting games installed. Need to do the story mode of Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 too yet. Jesus. So many games...

Also, marvel rivals out too! Just too damn much!!!! UE 5 and RT in that as well

Hmm, I have some money coming in February that I was going to use for a complete platform change to AM5 but it looks like if this is the sort of performance I'm going to expect from my 3080 in future titles it might be a new 5000 series card.

I think anyone on a 30xx and especially rdna 2 will be eyeing up an upgrade come next year. I'll be getting a 5080/5090 since grunt become an issue for me quite a while ago (especially with having a 4k 240hz screen now) but if for this title, you just need to set the texture "pool" size to medium at 4k or high at 1440p, as Alex/DF has shown, there is very little difference, it's basically streaming in textures at the distance and it's only when you drop to low where it becomes a big issue in visuals.

But the shiny new thing Nexus!? TBH it's been something on my mind for a few months, either AM5 or a new card.

Defo new gpu over cpu etc. imo. IIRC, you have a 5800x? Still no slouch that especially at 3440x1440
5950x and 32GB of 3600MHz DDR4. Just realised I've had this setup since Feb 2021 so it'll be 4 years in a couple of months. Given i was aiming for something that would last 3-5 years I've done well. I just hope 5000 series lives up to expectations.

I'm still on DDR4 3600 and 12700KF, bought at launch and still powering through games with the fastest GPU, suspect this will continue with a 5090 too ////if//// I were to do another GPU upgrade next year assuming 50 series is all a big boost over a 4090, though I suspect not, just a big cost increase more than performance increase :p

Added Full Ray Tracing (Path Tracing) feature on supported NVIDIA video cards. A minimum of 12GB VRAM is required to make use of this feature. Please note that we’re also working to support AMD FSR in a future game update.
