having an alpha SO close to its beta release is dumb....they could have started this alpha testing weeks/months ago

lol.... just type "warz alpha" into youtube and you get gameplay from over a month ago, just because we didn't get access to alpha until this week doesn't mean that there hasn't been an alpha. They started a while ago.

i didn't buy it lol...im not going to buy a game that's only released an alpha few weeks before its beta release..its plain stupid

I honestly think they've used the term alpha to cover up the problems they are having getting it up and running while open to the public. They obviously wanted to get it out before Dayz is committed to a date.

Like people said maybe a closed alpha with more people and pre orders on beta would have caused them a smaller backlash.

okay lets break this down :p

alphas betas and so on are based on different builds its not just alpha then beta there will be numerous different alpha builds and beta builds

This is the problem with, for lack of an earlier reference, "Minecraft Style" release that has become popular with smaller devs.

They want to involve the community and release early builds of games.
Some of the time it works great, people really enjoy the game find bugs stuff gets fixed, game gets good publicity and everyone is happy when a more polished beta comes out.
The other times the alpha is too buggy and broken to really be released (which is fine for a small internal or invite test community) and people complain and the publicity is very negative, which causes less people to play, less bugs to be fixed and much more of a failure.

The idea of releasing an alpha to the public needs to be considered more carefully by some of these dev teams.

The games industry is a business, they have to make money and with Dayz standalone they have to get it out now, at the sacrifice of it not being ready 100%. Games do this all the time especially coming up to Christmas, it can make or break a studio, look into what happened at Bizarre Creations with release schedules.

This is probably more the decision of management and publishing, not devs.

Had another hour today and the crashes fixed for me at work. I can see this working but I'm not convinced its for me. I still prefer Dayz.

The whining on some of these forums recently is driving me mad, I might have to take a break!

The games industry isn't immune from rush jobs.
I don't see why people can't refute the game before it's released, I mean these guys haven't got a decent track record with the game so far and all the stuff surrounding it.

Actually it is a linear progression. If that's what you were saying it wasn't.
I might be mistaking what you're saying though!

really..who would have thought....you are so wise my friend

Your name describes your level of intelligence quite well.

This thread needs moderated, it is a disaster with blind haters and fan boys, I want to see discussion about the game, not bitching because you prefer DayZ, this is a cash in, or DayZ sucks.

@ Above, the way they released it isn't dumb, they have tonnes of people bug testing for them and many of them enjoying having it early and having fun.
