Injury Thread

I've managed to injure my left peck muscle, not too sure what it's called. Did it while I was out my BMX, quite painful sometimes and I am going to start work as a removal man again next week. Doesn't look like it's going to be a fun week but need the money. Is it likely that I have over stretched it as I wasn't doing anything silly on the BMX just cycling fast using my arms a lot.

Oh and since other people have put most serious injury, I knocked my front tooth out twice, once on the BMX other time while I was at boxing and forgot my gumshield  Just so everyone can laugh I have managed to chip the same front tooth in half once again :p

Well after being generally injury free for my whole life (27 years) I now have the following. Both need treating ASAP but I have a bit of a conflict of interests. One of them is elbow surgery and the other is knee surgery both on the left side of my body. After elbow surgery I can't really use crutches for a while and tbh I probably shouldn't currently be using them at the moment due to compression of the ulnar nerve in my elbow. The ACL reconstruction will mean I'll be on crutches for at least 3 weeks and unable to play football for 8 mths. I can't even go on a treadmill for 3 mths ffs. So I think it will be ACL reconstruction and then when can fully weight bare (perhaps 3 mths after) I will be having surgery on the elbow.

Injury one - Cubital Tunnel Syndrome in both elbows (only my left needs operation at the moment)
I have had pins and needles in two fingers in my left hand from new years day. Had a nerve conduction study an diagnosis as a trapped nerve in both elbows! Reading between the lines it appears that this is Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. So if anyone works in an office keep pressure off your elbow. If I dont have surgery I will lose some movement+and have muscle wastage, not be able to grip properly and possibly get claw hand lol.

Injury two - ACL tear ala Michael owen (perhaps the terrible triad)
On last wednesday playing football, I went to turn and someone was treading on my foot. Cue me lifting my thigh and my foot remaining on the grond and I precede to twist the knee unaware that some swine is treading on my toe. Snap at the knee, pain, floor - 5 mins of swearing and shouting before someone could help me off the pitch so we could carry on playing. At LGI on wednesyday night, strapped up giving crutches and codeine and sent on my way with a possible MCL sprain and maybe issues with the ACL - though she couldn't tell as I couldn't bend the knee more than about 10 degrees.

Was wakeboarding at a Cable Park in Johannesburg in 2006... Came belting around a corner, and attempted to do a big jump off the speed/ tension in the cable... I did a big jump alright, but landed with the leading edge of the board sinking into the water (and my arms still being pulled by the cables), hence the board acting like an anchor and streching me (didn't let go quickly enough) It hurt. A lot.

Result?

Still can't lift anything resembling heavy at the gym as my right shoulder is buggered, (Nearly dropped the weight on my face a few times trying!) been having physio since October (Gave it one year to heal up and see what happened), and now awaiting a visit to a shoulder specialist :( It may never recover.

She thinks I might have torn all the tissue away around the ball joint at the time, and now that is has 'healed', slightly off, meaning my tricep is compensating for the lack of stability in my shoulder, hence the pain. :(

It's a shame, as I was progressing nicely (2 years of doing in seriously), and had a fair bit of muscle mass all over... Now it's all gone. What a waste of all that Protein, sweating my ass off in the gym, early starts, late finishes, etc

Cool thread!

Injury: Sprainted right wrist and bruised right thumb.
Cause: a stray ball thrown and hitting my relaxed hand (I was on the sideline talking)

I play basketball btw.

Past injurys:

Testicular Torsion
Cause: Got hit in the balls at training. Thought nothing of it afterwards, went to sleep, then woke up to find my balls were black, actually black. That required surgery, but luckily didn't loose anything.

Dislocated right ankle
Cause: Skating back in the day, jumping stairs.

Grade 2 sprain of right ankle
Cause: Landing on someone's foot when jumping for a rebound

Bruised right elbow/forearm, right hip
Cause: going for a layup, between two defenders, jumped and landed promptly on my arm. It was the way I fell, I didn't slide or anything, it was like a dead weight. Apperently the thud was quite something. The bursa on the end of my elbow was massive aswell.

Broken tibia/fibia
Cause: sitting on the front of my dad's mountain bike, leg went into wheel. Broke both bones. Not compound, but bloody hell it hurt.

Broken right big-toe
Cause: Football training after school, I went to kick the ball and kicked the floor. Happened about 12 years ago and it still hurts at times.

I got Osgood-Schlatters at about 16, but now it doesn't both me at all. I can still jump:

rested on sunday, thought might be better today but still feels the same :( when walking theres a pain on the left hand side of it, gona get it checked out by doc tomorrow

the pain is bearable its not that bad, just really annoying, like a niggling pain

either way im still doing squats tomorrow.........dunno if thats a good idea or not but cant miss my favourite exercise in the world :(

New injury!!

I think (but bloody hope not) that I may have broken my big toe on my right foot. Bugger!
Was playing football in the garden with my 3 year old and stubbed my (admittedly rather large already) big toe. yes, muppet. Will take a pic in a min :D
swelling has gone down but the bruising is coming on (up the toe and across it rather than at the point of impact which is what makes me think it could be broken).

Torn anterior cruciate ligament, done about 18 months ago.

Doesn't affect day-to-day life though, can run, kick a football around, just competitive physical sports are a no-no. Getting an operation at some point in time..lol

Yeah, it's a weird one, literally you wouldn't know I'd done it, have run 5-6 miles and doesn't even swell up, played footie etc in the park. Just know that if I push it too hard (have done on occasion) my knee buckles and I fall over in a heap, lol :p

Injury: Dead Leg / Strained Thigh muscle
Cause: Played in a works 11-a-side football tournament on Saturday and took a whack to the side of my thigh inbetween two of the quad muscles by an opponents knee, instantly giving me a dead leg.

I then played 5-a-side on Monday whilst my thigh was a little sore and I hit a sweet volley that strained the top of my thigh muscle. I'm giving it a weeks rest now :/

Injury: Patellar Tendinosis

Cause: Playing too much football on hard ground (old school astroturf).

Its slowly getting better now after spending months being diagnosed with different things.

I can sympathise with that, have exactly the same thing, been four years working it out, did have a cruciate ligament repair in between as well.

Currently, a triple wrist fracture, dont try and take out your new captain in pre-season, especially if he is 18 stone and likely to land on you.
