Insurgency Sandstorm - Unreal Engine 4

I think the graphics look better but it has maybe taken a small hit in performance. Most of the time I'm locked on 100fps which is my monitors max 3440x1440 but occasionally I will have drops into the 80s. MP5 is amazing! The 3 short burst is lethal. Needs a couple of new maps now, hopefully that is what they are concentrating on.

Tried the TDM mode, you definitely notice the frame drops and clunkiness more in a fast paced mode such as this (running on a 1080ti). People have recommended trying to delete the usersettings file and see if that improves the FPS, so I will try this soon as I havent rebuilt this file since the original closed Alpha (just need to take note of all my sensitivity options before I do this)

Are you talking about this fix?

I did this last night. Removed the files in the folder and it rebuilt them when I started the game. As far as I can tell, I think it's improved the performance and reduced the frame drops, but I haven't been on the most performance intensive maps yet. Also, I don't think you need to take note of the sensitivity options; when I started up the game again, all my options remained as they had been. I think those are stored in different config files.

On another note....has anyone tried this?

I've always found mouse aiming in this engine a little "odd". But I figured it was the best I was going to get. Did a little digging into raw input and found the above link about adding a parameter to to the input.ini file to disable mouse smoothing. Didn't think it would do much as Mouse Smoothing in the settings is already disabled - but I tried it just now and it's much better. I'm much more precise and aiming finally feels "right" again. Not quite sure why such a setting isn't off by default.
That's really interesting, I've always thought the same about the mouse movement in this - especially after playing shooters like CS:GO etc.

May give that "fix" a try and see how I get on.

I'm going to be doing a bit more digging, but from what I've read so far, I'm not the only one who's experienced the same in games on the UE4 engine. I felt the same about Squad as well. No matter how much I tweak mouse sensitivity and DPI settings, mouse movement has never felt quite right. It's hard to explain, it's very subtle, but it feels like the mouse is a bit floaty and imprecise. Same in PUBG (for the minimal amount of time I've played it).

Conversely, mouse movement in Rising Storm 2 (which is UE 3 or 3.5 I believe) feels pinpoint accurate and much more natural.

Version 1.2 was released last week with new map and has also added a new Hardcore COOP mode with a slower more tactical pace and reduced on screen hints.

Never had a problem running this game at all, others say performance is better after 1.2

Still loving this game, European servers are always full but people elsewhere in the world say there has been a player drop-off. I cannot understand why, for me this game is SQUAD meets COD and has a perfect balance.

I like the the new hardcore mode but I only play coop and thhey have removed team identification, so as the bots are so good I die lot or cause teammate damage, would like this back.

played 1 game and refunded.....the other team called in a gunship:( we've already cod if we want that sort of nonsense. shame. fancied an updated insurgency game.
are there still gunships? i'd love to give this another go (loved the first game) but not if it still has this guff in it.

One of my fave games still! I can run it at a constatnt 60fps @1440p with most things whacked up, great gameplay which rewards skill over reflexes

I only managed to play 5 minutes HC Co-op before I had to leave due tot he hot-fix being released and all the server's restarting to install it...then I couldn't find another HC server. But yes, it was a bit of a shock to the system...the problem with bots is that sometimes they have almost godlike reactions, so knowing that, it's tempting to rely on the team mate markers so you can shoot first and ask questions later....but the extra tenth of a second you now need to check the uniform can be enough for them to nail you. I might see if I can find some more HC servers tonight.

Some other great changes though - holographic sights are no longer a bloom-fest, so they are actually useful. And my verdict on the new anti-material rifles, is that they are both utterly hilarious and completely impractical. Love them :D

ah well. i'll stick to the original insurgency then. cheers

Don't know if it might sway your decision, but I hate stuff like that too, and I'm still enjoying the game by playing it almost exclusively in co-op mode, alongside other players but against bots. I freely admit that I'm not quick or skilled enough to be any match for human players, but the co-op mode is hugely enjoyable...and the fire support options like the helicopter appear much less often, and they are usually on your side anyway.

that's the mode i'm currently playing on the original insurgency so sadly no reason for me to change. shame as i really like the games, i'm just not interested in 'kill perks' etc. that said i'll probably grab it again when it falls to sub 10 quid.

Ahh right. They aren't kill perks, to be fair. They are fire support options that have to be called in by someone in the Commander role, via someone in the Observer (radioman) role, and the Commander has to designate the area he wants it to attack. I remember when I first saw them I was disappointed because I thought it was like CoD, where they're a reward for killstreaks or some nonsense...but there is actually some strategy to them, and they are vulnerable to RPGs and machine guns. But yeah, keep an eye on the game - definitely worth a punt after the last couple of updates.

Also, I don't know if this is worth a try for anyone, but if you're suffering performance issues, turn off Full Screen optimisation. It made the game feel noticeably "smoother" for me, reducing stutter...and apparently, it has made a huge difference for a lot of others.
