Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake thread

Videocardz is reporting that current z490 boards have a hardware problem on the intel 2.5gbe controller that reduces network performance when using the port and that it requires a revised controller which won't come until rocket lake and z590

Intel i225 "Foxville" 2.5GbE PHY has a flaw affecting performance in upcoming motherboard, desktop and notebook designs.

"There is no mitigation, besides manually setting the controller to work in 1 GbE mode in Intel Network Connections driver control panel"
Edit: Seems Intel have resolved this issue and upcoming Z490 motherboards will feature the hardware fix for Intel I225 controllers (V2).

Yeah. The only mitigation is hardware related so cannot be updated by firmware.

One more reason to say that Z490 is dead platform before even released. Considering is going to be surpassed by the Z590 platform in just 6 months.

Intel just came out with a statement saying they have resolved this Intel i225 "Foxville" 2.5GbE PHY issue and upcoming Z490 motherboards will already feature the hardware fix for Intel I225 controllers (V2).

"Intel is committed to delivering the highest levels of product quality and has already corrected the issue in the latest production version of the silicon. I225 v2 is already in production. We identified an IEEE spec variance in the Intel Ethernet Controller I225 that results in performance degradation when paired with some 2.5GbE switches and routers. Consumers experiencing this issue should ensure they have the latest software driver and associated firmware installed and can refer to https://www.intel.com/i225v1 for compatible switches and routers to ensure 2.5Gb/s connectivity."

It doesn't state what would happen to all those Z490 motherboards manufactured months ago and sitting in warehouses.

Yes their statement does not directly say that all Z490 motherboards will have the fix but now that we know about the issue, I hope reviewers will check this out once the first wave of Z490 boards hits the market.

Actually cannot be resolved until Z590 motherboards are out in 7 months time.

Hmm, November seems not bad of a time to upgrade. I'd love to right now but I want the new non bugged stuff. I'd go AMD but I've read too many issues with Creative drivers on AMD boards.

Go read Reddit and hardware forums over the past few years to this day more so the SoundBlaster Official. Channel swapping issues amongst other problems.

No issues here using 3950x, ASUS X570 formula and a creative soundblaster soundcard

Intel's presentation slides have leaked including retail pricing.

Ibtel is pushing frequency hard, their main marketing push is their claim that half of games prefer single thread clock speed

AMD did its job. Look at how Mr No Price cuts just cut its prices.

8700k and 9900k just lost a whole lot of second hand value

I spend most of my day on AMD Reddit, haven't seen such thing.

As if there will be any meaningful stock and you need a new mono. If you need a CPU now bag a Zen 2, if not wait for Zen 3 or rocket lake

Not really, those locked in to Z370/Z390 have no upgrade path to these, thanks Intel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the pricing is per 1k units and without VAT/taxes and customers being retail/online/resellers and not end users.

Oh and if the z490 boards have pcie4 say goodbye to resonable pricing and you still need a good cooler even for the K/KF i5's.

The 9900k and 8700k will lose value? 6700K and 7700k still go for stupid pricing as there's multiple auctions/sold listings on the bay where they go for £200+
