Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake thread

TL:DR for those of you not wanting to watch reviews,

The new 10 series is still the best for gaming but vs AMD in performance per watt you are certainly getting less performance. Also to get the most performance out of the chip Intel has extended the PL2 state for up to one minuute which means it boosts higher for longer to improve performance but this comes at the price of power consumption as the PL2 state can push the power consumption past 200W which obviously will need a much better cooler to keep under control. If you truly want the best gaming CPU then it's still going to be Intel but for everything else these new CPU's simply fall behind

There is also the problem that the Z490 motherboards don't seem to be competitively priced vs AMD and they are bringing very little in new features, not to mention this socket will be retired next year in favor of LGA1700 meaning the LGA1200 motherboards will have an effective life of 1 year in terms of upgradeability

Nothing fancy then looking at the power consumption. 5.3ghz it is at 200w over stock and over a hundred watts over a stock 3990x 64core part...

Think they have learned from the paste though finally using thin dies and a variation of stim/liquid metal.

Very nice looking cpu for gaming though but think I’ll be sticking with my 9900k until next gen amd/intel, still an expensive part £70 more than 12 core 3900x.

£120 more.

seems like linus got a golden chip most other reviewers saying on a 360mm rad 80-91 degrees is to be expected once overclocked

HU states all motherboards except one, come with MCE by default ON and all benchmarks are done with MCE then.
MCE is not overclocking, yet still hits 84C+

And that is before overclocking.
Yep

My query is, since they know all manufacturers cheat using MCE on by default, why not test those 3900X with CPPC on. Same thing..... :D

Intel Core i9-10900K CPU Review & Benchmarks: Gaming, Overclocking vs. AMD Ryzen 3900X & More

He's at it again.... trying to tell us Intel CPU's only use up to TDP at stock which is a flat out lie, even goes on to say that the Intel CPU's at stock use less power than the Ryzen CPU's.

You cannot trust a thing this guy puts on his channel, what he's doing is performance testing the 10900K in Blender without a power cap and the artificially capping the power to PL1 in the BIOS for power consumption testing to conflate the performance with the power consumption slide to make it look like the CPU is much more power efficient than it actually is. the fact is when you cap the Intel CPU to PL1 like that you get a drastic reduction in performance as it actually need near 200 Watts to produce the performance he puts on the slide.

Its a lie...
