Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

Motherboard vendors last ditch effort to rinse the public, it's honestly really disheartening as a customer.
switch to another brand that doesn't have stupidly expensive lineups, lets face it you won't evet know the difference anyway.

I can't even remember the manufacturer of my motherboard without checking

Unless you go very lower end you don't get any different CPU performance, not sure what other features would warrant so much extra cost

I spent a bit over the odds so as to get 10gbe LAN (need PCI-e slots for other stuff), enough USB-C ports for my usage and the PCI-e x16 slot latch (makes life so much easier if you change out the GPU much at all), amongst other features, was hard to find a board which combined all those which was also good value.

B860 level is labelled "mainstream"
giga bytes the dust has a long list of boards. by percentile of population these should as usual sell more units. (i mean non-highest end boards generally)
i'm ultra boring. of the less than a dozen boards i've had, ever ....i just stick with asus. because it is familiar over time to me.

Motherboard manufacturers do have plenty of excuses:
AM5 excuse; with AM4 people used their Zen 1 X370 board all the way to Zen 3 and didn't buy anything more from us. Ergo, we have to raise prices!"

LGA 1851 excuse; we had to design and validate this board for only one generation. Next generation we will have to do this all over again. Ergo, we have to raise prices!"

Unsure how those excuses can be reconciled, therefore it is more like:
"We raised prices..."

"... Because we can!"

I usually try finding something in £200-£300 range that covers what I need , if not wait for cashback, vouchers to bring price lower

That's one thing good about AMD the tier lower they don't take away any of the overclocking or tuning features of the CPU, with intel they don't give you everything to what you can do on the z tier

I don't care for brand I go with anyone that's giving me most for my money

yeh. have a b550. cost around 350aud dont remember exactly . then it fell in price by about 100 aud...
as with b760 boards, there are those with more than adequate features for me. more than I need or want. z boards ive noticed have some more lanes and too many ports.
im not an octopus. my current wifi card cost more than my current intel motherboard did. remembering i had a dfi board and an asus board (so yeh i did actually have one board that was not an asus) which were expensive - "striker extreme" i wrecked the board being silly. a long time ago. expensive mistake. some people (idiot like me) should not be allowed to have expensive things :p i lapped a cpu once too. that actually worked. i sold the chip. the buyer didnt care it was lapped or not. so long as it worked.

This is a meme but it's true of all high end PC hardware

Asus Maximus motherboards
Nvidia RTX5080/5090
Ultra 9 285/Ryzen 9 9950X3D

If you need to ask how much these products cost then you probably can't afford it
