Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

If, and it is far from certain, the rumours are true the P core only "Bartlett" parts are a completely different beast to existing RL architecture using tweaked Redwood tiles with additional cache and a different bus design.

As before would seem an odd move to me for Intel to overshadow their newer platform with a faster gaming CPU on the older one but the rumours still are new LGA1700 CPUs are coming.

Yeah I think hell will freeze over before Intel go backwards and release a new, faster CPU with new layout/architecture on an old dead platform. Some rumours as just dumb.

I am waiting to upgrade my current PC and just waiting for the release of these and the 9800X3D before making a choice.

Will most likely buy something towards the end of November for Black Friday but unsure what at the moment.

If your main use case is gaming, Ryzen 9800X3D or 9950X3D will be far superior to Arrow Lake.

Terrible CPU! Slower than 14900K in games. Very boring, will get trashed by Zen5X3D and absolutely worth ignoring considering it's a one CPU socket.

Has it been confirmed that it's only going to be a single socket run?

It's been confirmed it's only a single architecture. Meteor Lake was supposed to launch on LGA-1851 but was cancelled, so in effect Arrow Lake should have been the final CPU on this platform. Now it's the last.

Though if Nova Lake (the next gen) is going to only release in 2026, I can see Intel refreshing Arrow Lake with a +200Mhz bump and calling that Ultra9 385k or something silly. Not going to see any meaningful improvement on LGA-1851.

Has anyone read or heard anything to suggest that this platform could be anything other than a single chip release.?
Something like an Intel roadmap could be a little more credible.?

Thanks

Leaked roadmaps show LGA-1851 is a two generation platform. Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake. Problem is, Meteor Lake should have launched a year ago, but was cancelled as it was a bit crap. So that just leaves Arrow Lake as the only CPU 'generation' on this platform.

I'm sure Intel will release a "refresh" of Arrow Lake, but this will only be a small clock speed bump, with no architecture change or improvement, so is doomed from the start. Reviews will prob be a little better as they'll have more games with the Intel gaming profile nonsense.

greed brought policy of two generations per socket (and each has a new chipset to sell more boards)
poor engineering resulted in one gen per socket
this is worse than Rocket Lake

LGA-1700 ended up having 3 'generations', Alder Lake, Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh. Though this is out of stupidity rather than generosity from Intel.

I'm sure the motherboard vendors were furious with having to issue the millionth UEFI update for Z690 boards :D

Yup, I think Intel will try and move on from this platform soon as they can and consign it to the past. I’m not sure the cyberpunk patch improvements are going to be a given across the board…

I'd not be surprised if Intel even cancel the plans for Arrow Lake 'refresh' (200Mhz clock speed bump) and just go straight to Nova Lake. Though it's going to be a long 2025 as Nova Lake is estimated as 2H 2026.....

LGA-1851/Z890 will go the way of Z590 IMO, single generation boards. Just look at the premium boards, all full of stock for this time of year, madness. First it's cashback, next it'll be 50% off. I just feel sorry for anyone who bought into this platform, then again they should have done the sensible thing and waited for reviews!

Zen5X3D will reign supreme for so many years! Can't wait to get a 9950X3D when they're released :D

I have a 9800x3d with an RTX 4090, 64 GB (2x 32) RAM, 2 nvme SSDs, 2 SATA SSDs, 2 HDDs and 1 Broadcom 9500-8i HBA consuming 100 Watt idle on the desktop with 1 4k monitor connected (110 Watt with 2 4k monitors connected). I mean I get it I have a lot of hardware installed but still.

Would Arrow Lake be much lower in idle?
Is Arrow Lake also more efficient at light work with only some threads being utilized?

Arrow Lake would be 15-25W lower at idle. Though it's an absolute turd of a CPU, I'd not recommend a sidegrade from a 9800X3D.

Hmm switching to Arrow Lake might become reality if the promises are to be believed

Zen5X3D still smashes Arrow Lake to pieces in gaming, that's assuming Intel's figures are even remotely accurate.

I wonder how much $$ Intel are going to have to pay reviewers to take the time do another round of reviews for Arrow Lake, or if they'll even bother.

285k performance re-tested, gaming is now faster, though still behind the 14900k. Still missing the January 2025 bios updates

As expected, Arrow Lake is still Arrow Lake. Can't polish a turd. RIP z890 platform.

Hope Nova Lake gives AMD some competition - need 16 core CCX!

I don't know if I anymore fixes are going to be released, but I have read they are going to do a keynote at CES. Hopefully there is some news about Arrowlake.

Best hope for Intel at CES is a sneak peak of Nova Lake (16th gen). There's no fixing Arrow Lake - it'll never get close to the competition (Zen5X3D).
